Here are details on these and other IP attorneys who have landed new jobs. Arent Fox IP Litigation Duo Joins Crowell & Moring in SF Crowell & Moring LLP has hired two Arent Fox LLP intellectual property litigators for its litigation group in San Francisco, bolstering the firm s ability to serve clients in high-stakes disputes involving technology innovation, Crowell & Moring said Thursday. Partners Arthur S. Beeman and Joel T. Muchmore are joining Crowell & Moring after representing clients in high-profile commercial disputes over intellectual property rights and trade secrets at Arent Fox. Beeman said he moved to Crowell & Moring because it has a strong reputation and history of offering clients the highest level of litigation. The firm offers a tremendous platform to serve our clients, he said in a statement. We are delighted to join the team and be a part of Crowell & Moring s emerging presence in California. Arthur S. Beeman Beeman joins Crowell & Moring with more than 30 years of litigation experience. He most recently served as head of Arent Fox s complex litigation and intellectual property practices, where his practice focused on complex IP, bet-the-company" disputes in the telecommunications, internet, software, medical device and construction machinery industries, according to Crowell & Moring. Meanwhile, Muchmore has more than 15 years of experience litigating appellate issues involving patent infringement and disputes over licensing Joel T. Muchmore rights, trademark rights, trade secrets, copyrights and unfair competition claims. Muchmore has represented clients in multiple fields, including the entertainment, high-tech, software, consumer goods, arts and retail industries, according to Crowell & Moring.

2 Both partners have represented licensees in major disputes with enterprise database licensors, and they both served as counsel on behalf of Mars Inc. against Oracle Corp. in the only publicly filed complaint against the software giant over its allegedly illegal audit tactics and conduct, Crowell & Moring said. Other clients include Grammy-Award-winning musicians, multiple Fortune 500 consumer products companies, electronics retailers and art galleries, the firm said. Ex-Lead PTAB Judge Heads to Haug Partners Haug Partners has hired a former lead judge at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board who wrote decisions involving drug patent challenges backed by hedge fund manager Kyle Bass. New partner Brian P. Murphy will chair Haug's post-grant review practice group, the firm said in an Oct. 12 statement. Murphy spent four years with the PTAB, where as a lead administrative patent judge he presided over 200 America Invents Act post-grant review proceedings and wrote nearly 60 decisions, according to the firm. Before joining the board, Murphy specialized in patent litigation with Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP and Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP, representing pharmaceutical companies such as GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Daiichi Sankyo Co. Brian P. Murphy I believed then, as I believe now, that the AIA was a game changer for patent litigation, Murphy said in an interview Wednesday. It was an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a brand-new type of patent litigation that was still an adversarial proceeding. During his time with the PTAB, Murphy presided over a number of decisions involving the Coalition for Affordable Drugs, an organization formed by Bass to challenge drug patents. In February 2016, Murphy wrote the decision denying the group s petition challenging a Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. patent on the active ingredient in the anticoagulant Eliquis. Hill Wallack Adds Patent Expert in New Jersey Richard A. Catalina Jr. has joined Hill Wallack LLP s Princeton, New Jersey, office as head partner of its intellectual property group and member of its life sciences group. The registered patent attorney handles a wide range of intellectual property and patent issues before the courts and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including procuring, protecting, enforcing and monetizing patents, along with handling inter partes reviews and Lanham Act suits. He was most recently counsel at Wilentz Goldman & Spitzer PA, but has also worked at Szaferman Lakind Blumstein & Blader PC and his own firm, Catalina & Associates PA Richard A. Catalina Jr.

3 European IP Boutique Expands Life Sciences Team in Paris Hoyng Rokh Monegier has grown its Paris presence with the addition of life sciences attorney Anne Servoir. Servoir s career has brought her through life sciences boutique Intuity and CMS-Bureau Francis Lefebvre s competition law department. The latter is where she built up a practice focusing on complying with regulations in industries including telecommunications and pharmaceuticals. According to Hoyng Rokh, Servoir has spent the last 20 years working with companies that deal in health care for humans and animals, medical devices, food supplements, and cosmetics. The intellectual property boutique launched in 2015 when Hoyng Monegier LLP and Reimann Osterrieth Kohler Haft merged. It has offices in Amsterdam; Brussels; Germany s Dusseldorf, Mannheim and Munich; Madrid; and Paris. Anne Servoir Hoyng Rokh Monegier s reputation for excellence is well established in IP circles and its profile is rapidly rising in the pharma regulatory sector. Latham Snags Ex-Fish & Richardson Patent Atty In DC Latham & Watkins LLP has hired a Fish & Richardson PC patent litigator to join the firm s Washington, D.C., office after he successfully represented top technology and chemical companies as lead counsel in high-profile patent infringement disputes, Latham said Tuesday. Kevin Wheeler is joining Latham & Watkins as a member of its intellectual property litigation practice and as a partner in its litigation and trial department. Wheeler has successfully litigated dozens of high profile patent cases, often in multiple jurisdictions, including more than 20 crossborder U.S. International Trade Commission investigations, according to Latham & Watkins. Wheeler said Tuesday that Latham & Watkins has an exceptional reputation among the nation s leading IP firms, and he looks forward to further developing his practice there. 4 Mintz Levin Snags Ex-Foley IP Partner In San Diego Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo PC hired a former Foley & Lardner LLP intellectual property partner who has represented a range of pharmaceutical, technology and medical device companies, bolstering its national IP practice, the firm said recently. Marc T. Morley, who joined Mintz Levin s San Diego office Monday, built his career counseling clients on patent and trademark strategies and managing and prosecuting complex IP portfolios, according to the firm s Oct. 16 announcement. Morley has also advised clients on licensing and due diligence, the announcement said. Morley told Law360 on Wednesday that he saw his move to Mintz Levin as a great opportunity due to its "incredibly deep bench" and its impressive life sciences practice. He said that he's been a fan of Mintz Levin from afar for quite some time and that there are many attorneys at the firm he has always wanted to work with to better serve his clients. "The stars came into alignment and I'm thrilled to be here," Morley said, adding that the firm's reputation precedes it and that his clients have been very happy with his move. Marc T. Morley Pryor Cashman Scores Former Liner Entertainment Partner Pryor Cashman LLP has nabbed a former Liner LLP partner in Los Angeles with substantial experience handling complex business litigation, arbitration and mediation in North America, Europe and Asia, particularly in entertainment, media and intellectual property law matters, the firm announced Wednesday. Michael L. Novicoff s expertise also includes advising clients on the liability of corporate entities and their directors and officers, the firm said. Pryor Cashman said his arrival broadens the firm s West Coast litigation capabilities. Novicoff joins Pryor Cashman three months after it was announced that his prior law firm, Liner LLP, had been acquired by DLA Piper, a merger that was completed this month. He told Law360 that his former firm s merger "naturally provided a fresh opportunity to think about things, and while it was certainly very tempting to remain with so many talented lawyers and good friends, in the end I concluded that Pryor Cashman simply offered the best opportunity for my practice and for my clients. I ve known many of the lawyers at Pryor Cashman for several years and have worked with them on all sorts of matters, so it was a natural fit, and I really couldn t be happier." Michael L.
