1 Lei-Chala I. Wilson, Esq. Lei-Chala I. Wilson received her Economics degree from SDSU in 1985 and Juris Doctor from U.C. Davis, King Hall, in At U.C. Davis, Wilson was the 1989 Western Regional Champion of the National Trial Competition. Wilson was a deputy public defender with the Law Offices of the San Diego Public Defender for over 24 years. Wilson has tried over 120 jury trials to conclusion, including misdemeanors, serious and violent felonies, three strikes cases, sex offenses, and homicides. She has completed several hundred preliminary examinations and argued numerous motions. Wilson is now in private practice. Wilson was honored as the 2016 Woman of the Year by the 79 th Assembly District (Hon. Dr. Shirley Weber) on March 20, 2016 during the Assembly session. Wilson was recognized locally in San Diego for the same honor on March 20, 2016 during a Salute to Women Leaders. In July Wilson was re-elected to serve as Chair of the NBA Criminal Law and Juvenile Justice Section; she served as Chair Wilson was President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), San Diego Branch ( ). Wilson received the branch s President s Award in 2003 and the NAACP CA State Conference Dr. H. Claude Hudson Award in October 2010 and 2014 for the activities of the branch. In 2015 Wilson received the Women, Inc. Southeast San Diego with a Woman of Distinction Award and the SDUSD Lincoln Cluster with an Extraordinary Community Service Award for Leaders Who Serve. Wilson also was appointed to serve as the Legal Advisor to the San Diego Black Police Officers Association (SDBPOA). In 2014 Wilson received the Courage and Social Award from the BAPAC (Black American Political Association of California), San Diego Chapter and the Community Activist Award from the SDBPOA. In 2013, the branch was recognized by the Jacob Center for Revitalizing Neighborhood Innovation Award, Talent Award Association (TAA)

2 Community Impact Award and Epiphany Women In Focus Outstanding Achievement Award. Wilson joined the CCRC (California Civil Rights Coalition) Steering Committee in Wilson is a Past President of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association (EBGBA) (1998, 2006 and 2007) and the California Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) ( ). EBGBA presented her with President s Award in 1993, 2002, 2008 and 2010, the Distinguished Service Award in 1996, 2003 and 2005 and the Thurgood Marshall Award for Legal Excellency in CABL presented Wilson with the President s Award in 1999, 2006, 2007 and In 2009 CABL presented Wilson with the David Cunningham Non-Profit Community Service Award. Wilson is a Past Director of the National Bar Association (NBA) Region IX and served five years as the Chair of the NBA Criminal Law and Juvenile Justice Section. In 2009 Wilson served as Co-Chair of the NBA Legal Education Committee and received a National Bar Association Presidential Award. In November 2006 Wilson was appointed to the State Bar of California Attorney Civility Task Force. In March 2007 Wilson was appointed to the San Diego Mayor s Charter Review Commission that revised the San Diego City Charter that was considered by the San Diego City Council for the June 2008 ballot for voter approval. Wilson served a three year term on the Board of the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties ( ). Wilson was also a Board Member of the San Diego Mediation Center ( ) and on the Board of Trustees for the San Diego County Public Law Library ( ). Wilson is an Advisor and Past Chair of the State Bar of California Criminal Law Section Executive Committee and currently serves as the Education Chair and has been involved with that committee since Wilson was a Delegate to the State Bar Conference of Delegates for the SDCBA ( ) and on the Judicial Nominations Evaluation Committee in 2004, 2006 and Wilson was a recipient of the SDCBA s first Diversity Award in She served on the State Bar of California, District Nine Nominating Committee, Executive Committee of the Conference of Delegates, in Wilson is a Past President of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW), San Diego Section. She received the NCNW SD Living Legacy Award in 2000 and the Bethune Woman of the Year Award in In April 2010 Wilson received a gubernatorial appointment to the California Council on Criminal Justice. That same month the San Diego County Bar Association presented Wilson with the Outstanding Service By a Public Attorney. Wilson was also the recipient of the Black Contractors Association s Social Justice Advocate of the Year Award in October In March 2011, Wilson received a National Citation Award for Community Service from the Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., National Sorority, Delta Upsilon

3 Chapter. In 2012, Wilson received the Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce Humanitarian Award. Wilson was the Outstanding Match of the Year in 1996 and the Outstanding Attorney Volunteer in 2002 for the Volunteers in Parole, Inc. (VIP). She served on that committee from as an Attorney Mentor and on its San Diego Advisory Committee. Wilson is a frequent lecturer for the State Bar of California Criminal Law Section and has also spoken at programs for the NBA, American Bar Association (ABA), EBGBA Neighborhood Law School and the Ninth Circuit District Court Annual Conference in Guam and Saipan on criminal law topics, attorney civility, courtroom etiquette, elimination of bias, opening a solo practice, and case management. Wilson has put together community forums that include the San Diego Mayoral, City Attorney, Assembly and Senate Districts, San Diego Unified School District board candidates and the 4 th Council District candidates races, Hate Crimes, Prop. 54 and 19, renewal of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Student Privacy Rights, domestic violence awareness and the HEAT/S (Human Exploitation And Trafficking in Sex). Wilson has most recently focused on law enforcement issues with minority communities, police practices and accountability. Wilson has served as a frequent commentator on local television and radio broadcasts and in print media. Wilson is a member of the State Bar of California, NBA (Life Member), CABL (Life Member), EBGBA (Life Member), Black Women Lawyers of Los Angeles, Inc., ABA, California Public Defenders Association, SDCBA, California Women Lawyers, NAACP (Life Member), ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties, NCNW (Life Member), MLK Jr. Democratic Club, Democratic Professional Club San Diego, Blacks in Government (BIG) Greater San Diego Chapter and Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce (CSDBCC).

4 Assembly Member Shirley Nash Weber was elected in November of 2012 to represent California's 79th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Chula Vista, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City and San Diego. Assemblymember Weber was recently appointed by Assembly Speaker Rendon to chair the Assembly Committee on Elections and Redistricting. She also chairs the Assembly Select Committee on Higher Education in San Diego County and the Assembly Select Committee on Campus Climate, and serves on the Assembly Standing Committees on Education, Higher Education, Appropriations, and Banking and Finance. She is also past Chair of the Assembly Committee on the Budget Born to sharecroppers from Hope, Arkansas, Shirley Weber has lived in California since the age of 3. Her parents, in particular her father, valued education and supported their daughter's academic aspirations. She attended UCLA, where she received her BA, MA and PhD by the age of 26. Prior to receiving her doctorate, she became a professor at San Diego State University at the age of 23. Dr. Weber also taught at California State University at Los Angeles and Los Angeles City College before coming to San Diego State University. Weber has lived in the 79th Assembly District for over 30 years. Deeply committed to community service, she served on the boards of the NAACP, the YWCA, the YMCA Scholarship Committee, Battered Women Services, United Way and the San Diego Consortium. She eventually made a successful run for a seat on the board of the San Diego Unified School District. As a trustee and subsequent school board president, she became known for her advocacy for closing the achievement gap and setting a higher standard of excellence for all children. As an Assemblymember, Weber has translated her commitment to education and social justice into her ambitious legislative agenda. She has authored bills on K-12 education reform, increasing access and affordability for higher education for California s students, and a law to address the issue of racial profiling in policing. Other bills signed include legislation addressing civil rights, education, forced arbitration, protections for person with disabilities and voting rights. She is also outspoken on the importance of investing in early childhood education as a means of preventing drop-out rates, dependence on social services, incarceration and unemployment. Assembly Member Weber is the mother of a daughter and son, and has two grandchildren. She is the widow of the late Honorable Daniel Weber, a California state judge.

5 Kyra Greene, PhD is the deputy director at the Center on Policy Initiatives. Her particular areas of focus are social equity, local budgets, and infrastructure issues. CPI is a nonprofit research and action institute dedicated to advancing economic equity for working people and diverse communities throughout the San Diego region. Dr. Greene earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Stanford University. She also holds a B.A. in Social Sciences from Bard College at Simon s Rock. Before joining CPI, Dr. Greene was an Assistant Professor of Sociology at San Diego State University where she taught courses on socioeconomic inequality, race and qualitative research methods. She has served as an instructor in sociological courses on public policy at both Rider University and Stanford University. She was also the Diversity Coordinator for the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education in the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (EDGE-SBE) program at Stanford University. Dr. Greene s past research has focused on social movement messaging/framing, legislative processes and public policies affecting the lives of people of color and people with disabilities.

6 Juanita Brooks Principal San Diego, CA Background Juanita R. Brooks, a Principal of the firm and an elected member of the firm s Management Committee, is a nationally recognized trial and appellate lawyer who specializes in complex intellectual property, product liability, and mass tort litigation. In 2014, she was named Litigator of the Year" by The American Lawyer. Ms. Brooks, called a titan of the patent bar, has been lead counsel in more than 13 patent trials over the past two years, and has handled more than 150 trials in her career. In 2016, she led a team that successfully defended one of the largest mass tort/wrongful death cases in the United States, which included 12,000 cases (some of them class actions representing hundreds of individual plaintiffs). Ms. Brooks is a master storyteller, and paints pictures with words to explain the complex technologies that she handles to judges and juries in a way that is both understandable and compelling, and will be remembered throughout the trial. In 2016, Law360 named her an Icon of IP for her skill at trying complicated patent cases without getting bogged down in the technical weeds and said she is a jury whisperer. Ms. Brooks is highly skilled at cases that rest in large part on expert analysis, testing, and testimony. Using the firm s science and technology-intensive expertise, she crafts novel, outside the box legal strategies. Her ability to present and challenge expert testimony in court has been a decisive factor in courtroom victories. For example, in one case the trial judge noted that the opposing expert s credibility was eviscerated on cross-examination by Ms. Brooks. While she tries cases nationally, she is also very active in her local community and played a significant role in drafting the original and the subsequent amendments to local patent rules for the Southern District of California. Because of Ms. Brooks well-known litigation success as well as her commitment to her community, she is consistently selected for national and local industry honors. Recently, Ms. Brooks was named an Intellectual Property (IP) Trailblazer by the National Law Journal (2016), a Top 250 Women in IP by Managing Intellectual Property (2016), and a Trial Ace by Law360 (2015). 9 2016 In re Fresenius GranuFlo/NaturaLyte Dialysate Products Liability Litigation (MDL) Served as lead counsel in a case in which Fish used its technical expertise to craft a novel defense strategy that brought a favorable global settlement of product liability mass tort litigation involving the use of acid concentrate products used during dialysis. The plaintiffs alleged that improper use of the product could result in sudden cardiac arrest. The settlement followed Fish s strategic victory in a motion in limine and related Daubert motion to exclude, as unreliable science, faulty expert testimony and a complete defense verdict of no causation at the first and only bellwether trial Gilead Sciences Inc. v. Merck & Co. (N.D. Cal.) Served as lead counsel for Gilead in a case involving Gilead s multi-billion dollar drugs Sovaldi and Harvoni which are cures for Hepatitis C. Initially, the jury sided with Merck finding the asserted claims were not invalid. However, in a June 2016 ruling, the judge agreed that Merck s inhouse lawyer s misconduct involved repeated and fabricated testimony and improper business conduct. As a result, the court found Merck guilty of unclean hands and held Merck s patents unenforceable against Gilead, wiping out the $200 million damages award Reihaney v. Fresenius (CDCA) Obtained jury verdict in favor of client Fresenius in wrongful termination suit brought by Fresenius former President of Research and Development. Reihaney claimed he had been terminated in retaliation for making complaints about alleged safety issues and alleged discrimination against women and minorities Fresenius v. Baxter (US Supreme Court) Writ of certiorari by Baxter denied, effectively ending this 10-year patent infringement litigation and scoring a complete victory for Fresenius. The petition was heralded as one of the top five to watch in Allergan v. Sandoz, et. al. (EDTX and Federal Circuit Court of Appeals) Hatch Waxman case involving Allergan s LUMIGAN 0.01%. Won bench verdict and injunction for Allergan. Judgment affirmed on appeal in Gilead, Roche, Genetech v. Lupin (D.NJ) Settlement after a three-week patent infringement bench trial that will block Lupin s generic version of Ranexa from entering the market until Fresenius v. Baxter (Federal Circuit Court of Appeals) Significant appellate decision in patent infringement case for Fresenius, ending long-standing litigation which included reexamination by the PTO Allergan, Inc. v.
