2 BACKGROUND Hebei is a core part of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei new main focal point of integrated economic development in China. Hebei s Xiong An is set by Central authorities to be the new pole of development 60 km South West of the Capital, extending Beijing s economic zone and relieving the demographic pressure on the capital. Large portions of Hebei are also integrated in the 2022 Beijing Olympic sites network. Hebei has hence become one of the top areas of strategic importance for the further development of China, where numerous opportunities for international collaboration have been created. At this early stage of its boosted development, Hebei is alive with new business opportunities for Chinese and Foreign companies and investors alike. Combining the resources of the nation s capital with its own dynamic reform processes, Hebei benefits from a strong impetus buttressed by central government support. Hebei province is more than ready to open up its market to welcome international partners with favorable conditions, and to boost transformation and sustainable green development. Following the 4-day visit of President Xi Jinping to Switzerland, as his first early foreign visit of this year and the visit of Swiss President Leuthard to China in May, the Hebei government has decided to focus on developing ties with Switzerland, so as to contribute to and benefit from the golden development period of Sino-Swiss bilateral relations.

3 ABOUT THE SUMMIT Running Top-1 in a row of Global Innovation and competitiveness Indexes, Switzerland has reached the world top level in, for example green economy, innovation, winter sports industry and vocational education. The first Switzerland-Hebei Innovation Summit will play a critical role as a main activity platform in promoting the cooperation between Swiss and Hebei enterprises. This Summit will center on innovation, the winter sports industry, as well as bilateral cooperation in culture and education, focusing on bilateral cooperation opportunities to support the economic transformation of Hebei. Bilateral cooperation fields include: Open-up and development direction of traditional and emerging enterprises in Hebei. Sustainable development partnership between Hebei and Switzerland in the fields of business park and industrial innovation. Market access, start-up support and business facilitation for Swiss companies wishing to set up business in Hebei and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei economic area.
