2 At the close of 2017, The Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation crossed a major threshold more than 1,000 grants awarded since its founding in More than $9 million contributed to 160 Hartford area organizations. Every grant made has helped the foundation fulfill Ned and Sunny Roberts mission to support and encourage excellence in the arts throughout the Capitol Region. This was particularly true in 2017 when the foundation funded an incredible array of extraordinary arts projects jazz master Randy Weston s performance at the Artists Collective, Hartford Stage s production of Age of Innocence, the Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival, Ballet Theatre Company s Grand Pas Classique, Guitar Under the Stars at the University of St. Joseph, Gorey s World at the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford Chorale s timeless Messiah and so many more. We hope you were able to enjoy one or more of the outstanding exhibitions and performances funded by the Roberts Foundation in 2017 and encourage you to support these and the many other arts organizations that contribute so much to Greater Hartford s vibrant cultural legacy. Curran Executive Director At the December 2017 meeting, the foundation welcomed Alexander Williams as a new board member. Alex, a native of Chicago and recent graduate of Morehouse College, is a private equity analyst with Landmark Partners.

4 In Memorium The Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation lost a great friend with the passing of Janet Larsen on April 15, Jan was a member of the Roberts board for 26 years, from 1981 to She succeeded Sunny Roberts as president of the board in 1991, becoming the first person outside the Roberts extended family to lead the organization. Jan served as president until 1999 and under her guidance the board refined its commitment to the Greater Hartford arts community and launched several initiatives including The Roberts Award which helped Hartford Stage launch the Brand: New Festival in Jan and her husband Chris were great patrons of the arts and civic leaders in Hartford. Jan was particularly dedicated to Hartford Stage, becoming its first female board president. Several area organizations benefited from Jan s involvement including Hill-Stead Museum, Connecticut Valley Garden Club, Junior League of Hartford and University of Hartford s Mortenson Library. At its December, 2016 meeting, the board considered applications for new works in the visual arts for its 2017 Creation of New Work award. The board approved a grant to Real Art Ways to commission the exhibition, Everlasting Ephemera by fiber artist and sculptor, Hong Hong. 9 About the Foundation Founded in 1964, the Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation is a private, special purpose foundation. In accordance with the founders wishes, its mission is to support and encourage excellence in the arts. The Foundation focuses its giving in Hartford, Connecticut and the immediate surrounding area. Deadlines for 2018 applications are February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1.
