2015 Executive Terry Stacey President Always told that she could do whatever she put her mind to, Terry was influenced and encouraged by her pharmacist and small business owner father and her politician and small business owner maternal grandfather. Adopted at six months, Terry was the second oldest of 5 children brought up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. With a background in geography, municipal planning and political science from the University of Waterloo, Terry got her first job out of University in Red Lake, Ontario where she met her husband. Just before their first anniversary they moved to Fort Saskatchewan in 1979 when Dow offered Paul a job. Terry and Paul never looked back and are proud to call Fort Saskatchewan home and have raised their two daughters here. From Terry worked for the Town of Fort Saskatchewan in a couple of temporary positions, was a realtor with the Century 21 office owned at the time by Jack Wray, sold new homes for a builder in Gibbons and Edmonton and took teller training at NAIT and worked a temporary job with Canada Trust. Coming home to work for the City in 1987 allowed Terry to pursue her passion of municipal planning and then gravitate into economic development. Her 27 year career with the City fueled her passion to promote and market this great community; network, connect and support local small businesses; and attract new business and industry. Terry is proud to be an Ambassador of Fort Saskatchewan. Always a planner, Terry started planning her retirement 10 years in advance knowing that she wanted and needed to stay connected to the community. Joining the Rotary Club in 2004 was part of that plan, following in her Dad s footsteps and her family s service mentality. The second piece of the plan was putting the knowledge she espoused to other small businesses into action by taking her hobby of chocolate making into a little business called Chocolates By Terry. Honoured to be the President of the FSWIB Association and help it get established has been a highlight of her first year of retirement. Terry is an avid fiction reader, crocheter, public relations chair for the Fort Saskatchewan Rotary Club and Shell Theatre volunteer. Words to live by do unto others as you would have them do unto you
Alyssa Pratt Vice- President To name a few of the hats that Alyssa wears, she is a wife, mother, sister, daughter and granddaughter. She is also an Ambassador of Fort Saskatchewan, Director for the Chamber of Commerce and the Vice President of The Women in Business Association, as well as a business owner. Alyssa is a proud member of the community, her mission is to improve and empower business owners to thrive to be leaders in their industries. She encourages those around her, that no goal is too big, and the sky really is the limit. Alyssa is a partner of Crein Solutions Inc., specializing in a variety of HR and safety issues including, conflict resolution, labour relations, talent acquisition, on boarding, employment contracts and HR policies. Before starting her current consulting company with her partner, Alyssa was an independent Human Resources specialist contractor. Alyssa was also a proud shareholder of locally owned common services construction company. In February 2011, Alyssa and her husband were blessed with two little boys. Alyssa was determined to be a stay at home mom, when she realized that she needs to be a mom who works, contributing to the community and businesses who need her services. Alyssa is passionate and truly cares about making a difference in her family s life, as well as the community she lives and works in. Alyssa s dedication is driven by the success of those around her, and each victory is celebrated no matter the size.
Dione Chambers - Treasurer Coffee drinker, wine lover, travel fanatic, not a hugger, but a high fiver and overall dreamer with a substantial bucket list- Introducing Dione Chambers, Treasurer for Fort Saskatchewan Women in Business Association. When not creating excel sheets, punching numbers and triple checking her calendar, you can find Dione at The Fort Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce where she spends her days as the Executive Director. With a background in chemistry as a Chemical Technologist with 15 years of experience, Dione specialized in technology innovation, small business management and commercial start-ups. Dione loves to be constantly learning. She is involved in the community through volunteering, coaching indoor and outdoor soccer, Treasurer for the Fort Fish and Game Association and teaching future entrepreneurs through Junior Achievement. With two young boys, she is a master negotiator and quite possibly permanently sleep deprived. Happy highlights: Scuba diving Great Barrier Reef, Trekking thru Australia and Malaysia with her hubby (and still happily married), getting kissed by Brett Wilson (and still happily married). Favorite quote: I'm not telling you it's going to be easy - I'm telling you it's going to be worth it. Art Williams
Tamara Belamy Secretary Motivated by stubbornness and a ridiculously competitive nature, Tamara has explored a number of career paths. She started her journey with a Bachelor of Education with minor in Psychology. After university, she moved to Hay River, NWT and worked as a high school teacher and guidance counselor, as well as in the Women s Shelter. She was on the volunteer fire department where she crawled into burning buildings and rappelled off of cliffs. In 1997, Tamara joined the RCMP and was stationed in Yellowknife where she was chosen to create and run the Relationship Violence Unit. From Yellowknife, Tamara transferred to Desmarais, Alberta, where she developed a specialized knowledge of investigating child sexual abuse. In 2004, she moved to Edmonton s Project Kare, investigating the serial homicides of women in the sex trade. Tamara became the media liaison for the Unit and developed specialized skills in this field, later acting on a National advisory team tasked with creating government bills on investigating homicides of women in high risk lifestyles. In 2007, she was accepted in to Law School but instead elected to take a promotion to Sherwood Park, working in the General Investigations Section, then leading the Domestic Violence Unit, where she created provincial policy for the RCMP on Child Sexual Assaults Investigation. In 2010, Tamara was blessed with a baby girl, who changed her life. She chose to leave her career in policing and presented to The Second Cup, a business package she had created for Fort Saskatchewan. The company had never considered Fort Saskatchewan as a location, but agreed that a café here would be viable. In May, 2013, Tamara opened the Fort Saskatchewan Second Cup and retired from the RCMP a few months later. When her busy schedule allows it, Tamara loves to travel, run, do triathlons and read. But, mostly, she cherishes each and every moment she has, with her daughter. Honoured to be part of the Women in Business Association, Tamara sees it as an opportunity for women to share their experiences and challenges and work together to enjoy success in this incredible community.
Kelly Lilja Director Born and raised during her early childhood in St. John's, Newfoundland, Kelly is a proud East Coaster and transplant Albertan. When Kelly was 9 years of age, her Father decided to change career paths and join the military, moving the family to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Growing up as a military 'brat', Kelly has travelled from Newfoundland to BC and up to the Northwest Territories, allowing her the opportunity to see this beautiful country we call Canada. Growing up on military bases throughout her teen years led Kelly to the recruiting center for the Armed Forces, where she had planned to join up and have a great career after graduation. During her last semester of Grade 12 at Sturgeon Composite High School, the guidance counsellor offered Kelly an opportunity to complete work experience for extra credits at a Financial Institution. Kelly started her career at TD Bank in Edmonton in 1990 and has never looked back! Working with a company that supports and encourages career growth and development, rewards hard work and dedication combined with the ability to help clients achieve their financial dreams and learning something new each day has grown into a 25 year career. During this time, Kelly has worked in many different roles in 11 different branches in Alberta, most recently and proudly, Branch Manager of the TD Bank in Fort Saskatchewan. If you ask Kelly what school she attended for her education, she will tell you the 'University of Kelly'. During Grade 11, Kelly became a teenage mother and realized that the odds for success were stacked against her. During this time, Kelly made a commitment to herself and her son knowing the only way that she could achieve success, would be through hard work, support from family and friends and most importantly, taking advantage of every opportunity that was offered. Today, Kelly has been married to her childhood sweetheart, Steve, for 25 years and they have 3 wonderful children, Cody, Steven and Brianna. She volunteers in her community regularly and recently joined the Suit Yourself organization as a volunteer, which helps women re - enter the work force. Favorite Quote:"Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. Joshua J. Marine
Paula Wischoff Yerama - Director It is a little ironic that the girl without a career plan became a Career Development Practitioner. Throughout high school I worked as a waitress and on the advice of my Guidance Counsellor, because of my high marks in business class, I enrolled in a Business Administration Diploma program with no real idea of what I might do with it when I completed it. Part way through my second year I registered for a degree transfer program at the University of Lethbridge with a focus on marketing. Shortly before moving to Lethbridge I was surprised to learn I was pregnant. Alone and scared I followed through on my commitment to school with my "bun in the oven" but left the program after the first semester. My beautiful baby girl was born two months later and I started a new adventure as a single mother. For all of my daughter's life I worked full time (and often part time as well), attended school, and volunteered. I found ways to involve my daughter in my activities and was proud to share my passion for helping and learning with her. When she was 4 I graduated with a Rehabilitation Services Diploma and started my first job in career development as an Employment Specialist. When she was 8 we moved to Fort Saskatchewan for a dream job opportunity in Edmonton. When she was 10 I married the man she now calls "Dad" and was among the first group of Career Development Practitioners in Alberta to become a Certified Career Development Professional. When she was 11 I left my full time job to start Career Designs for Life. When she was 14 I started my Farmers' Market business, Paula's Pantry. When she was 16 I graduated with a Bachelor of Management degree and became the Executive Director of the Career Development Association of Alberta while continuing to build my business. Now, at the age of 18, she is planning to embark on her own life journey, full of uncertainty and adventure. We had our share of challenges but throughout those challenges we had each other and we had the support of family, friends, colleagues, classmates, teachers, community members, and mentors. I enjoy my work, my community involvement, and my ongoing learning and it is a privilege to be a part of the Fort Saskatchewan Women in Business Board of Directors. I still don't have a firm career plan but I sure am enjoying the journey!
