4 Lockton and Mills & Reeve MONDAY 24TH JUNE 2013 Speaker Biographies Chris Brown, Partner, LLP Board Member, Lockton Chris joined Lockton in June 2007 and is a member of the Executive Committee and a shareholder for Lockton International. He is responsible for the retail broking and client service operations of Lockton in the UK and Eire. In this role, Chris works with Lockton s large and complex clients to find risk financing solutions to their varied business issues. He has specialist experience in the food and beverage, retail, automotive and chemicals and pharmaceuticals sectors. Tel: +44 (0) / chris.brown@uk.lockton.com Dr Clive Black, Head of Research, Shore Capital Stockbrokers Clive is one of the UK s top five stockbroking analysts in food and drug retailing. He was rated first for coverage of smaller companies in this sector in the last Reuters survey. Clive holds a PhD. from the Queen s University of Belfast, his thesis being on the Northern Ireland food industry. He worked in London for the National Farmers Union for five years and then joined Northern Foods plc. He moved into stockbroking research with Charterhouse Tilney where he was for eight years when it latterly became ING Financial Markets. He joined Shore Capital in 2003 as head of research. 5 3 4 Ian Harrison, Partner, Lockton Ian is responsible for developing the Product Recall/Contamination and Guarantee insurance areas for Lockton clients and prospects throughout the world. Over 20 years of worldwide experience in assisting clients in this specialist area as both an underwriter (AIG and Beazley Syndicate) and international broker. Ian holds an MBA from Cass Business School in London and a degree in Law and International Relations from Canterbury, Kent. Tel: +44 (0) / ian.harrison@uk.lockton.com Craig Hodgson, Partner & Head of Food & Beverage Sector, Mills & Reeve Craig joined Mills & Reeve 8 years ago as a partner from Eversheds and is a corporate finance lawyer. His work includes advising clients, who range from large multinational and public companies to individual investors, buy, sell or invest in companies and businesses in the UK and overseas. As part of one of the UK s largest corporate teams, he has considerable experience in major cross-border transactions and has acted on many share issues and takeovers. He leads the firm s food and beverage sector group, which comprises a team of 40 lawyers and represents over 100 clients in the sector. He recently led a team that acted on the sale of a 100 million turnover food processing company to a FTSE Listed company which involved, as well as the sale of the company, a statutory demerger of farm businesses, pension regulator and competition commission consent and the purchase by management of a division. 6 Lockton and Mills & Reeve MONDAY 24TH JUNE 2013 Sue Pawar-Price, Mills & Reeve Sue joined the Mills & Reeve general insurance team as a Consultant Barrister in September 2012 to lead on its counter fraud strategy. As a dual qualified lawyer and practising barrister in fraud, Sue is experienced in handling high value cases as well as cases in the strategic litigation arena. Sue is also experienced in representing a client s interests at inquests, as well as prosecuting and defending cases in the criminal courts (Magistrates Court and Crown Court level). Fraud cases require a completely different skill set to non-fraud cases and Sue s expertise in both the civil and criminal arena enables her to adopt a holistic approach to a case and offer her clients the best possible solution on a case in the most cost effective environment. Kate handles catastrophic claims involving injuries of the utmost severity, which involves giving pragmatic and timely advice to clients to encourage early resolution of claims working collaboratively with experts and opponents in the best interests of claimant and client. Kate also provides policy coverage and indemnity advice and representation in the police station and at the coroner s court occasions when clients require sensitive and straight-forward advice. Kate also heads up the Counter-Fraud team advising insurers, organisations and brokers with effective strategies to implement counter-fraud policies and procedures as well as defending fraudulent claims pursued. 7 5 6 Ian Mayers, Partner, Mills & Reeve Ian has been specialising in contentious regulatory matters (especially health and safety) for over 30 years. During that time he has represented many food businesses being investigated and/ or prosecuted following various incidents ranging from alleged food safety/labelling breaches to injuries/fatalities in the workplace. As an experienced advocate, Ian regularly represents clients in the Magistrates and Coroner s courts as well as before various other tribunals and therefore he is able to provide a one-stop service. Statutory regulators also instruct Ian to represent them in enforcement proceedings. Tel: +44 (0) / ian.mayers@mills-reeve.com Liam Morrissey, Founder, MS Risk Following a career as an officer in the Canadian Forces, Liam entered the private security sector in support of international mining and exploration operators in Western and Central Africa. During this time, Liam implemented security programs, evacuations and resolved kidnap/extortion instances. In 2000, Liam was appointed Head of Risk Management and Security for Tesco PLC and he managed the business through a series of sustained bombing campaigns and extortion attempts, revamping security procedures in the process. He has led international investigations into product tamper and managed the commercial effects of protection rackets, cargo hijackings and sectarian violence. Leaving Tesco in 2005 to set up a security risk consulting practice which was later sold. Liam formed MS Risk in The practice is established as insured advisors to Lloyd s of London insurance syndicates dealing with extortion, kidnap/ransom, hijacking and piracy.
