2 Introduction This collection of easy songs for ukulele is designed to get you singing and playing ukulele in very first lesson! The chords used in this collection are introduced through a series of 5 one chord songs. Mastering chords before having to learn to change chords eliminates much of frustration that young beginners face. fter introducing chords used, 5 easy to chord songs are given. If your students find it difficult to sitch chords, divide class into to groups and have one group play one chord and or group play or. Practice changing chords sloly ithout looking at fretboard. When students are able to feel here fingers go, changing chords ill be easy. The last to songs in collection use three chords. ith recordings of all songs is included. Students ill learn chords and ho to change chords using folk songs that are given in collection. In addition to songs in collection e ve given links (in proectable P included on ) to easy pop songs on YouTube that use same chords. Students really enoy playing along ith pop songs. Where possible, links to original artists performance and to a video ith chords and lyrics are given. n inexpensive student book/ is available so your students can play along ith all folk songs and easily access same YouTube links at home. This collection does not address reading notes and playing melodies - focus is on learning songs to sing and strum. The ukulele originated in 9th century as a Haaiian interpretation of machete, a small guitar-like instrument taken to Haaii by Portuguese immigrants. Since n, ukulele has been commonly associated ith music from Haaii, here name roughly translates as umping flea, perhaps because of movement of player s fingers. The ukulele gained great popularity elsehere in United States during early 0th century, and from re spread internationally. It has been popular ith performing musicians, and also in music education.

6 Tuning Ukulele Tuning ukulele is easy, especially since re are many apps available to help ith this. n excellent tuner for mobile devices can be found by searching for guitar toolkit. It has instrument specific tuners for all stringed instruments, chord guides and a great metronome. good free tuner is n-track Tuner. There are many more free tuners available, but beare of in app purchases and plenty of adare. In large classes of students, it may be more efficient to line up students, ukulele in hand, and tune m yourself than to try and have students tune instruments. t.musicplayonline.com re is a ukulele tuner.
