CHECK OUT EVENTS CheyenneGuitar Society Time Marches On It was a reasonable turnout for our first meeting of the new year. Good to see Lynn Newman, Bob Fontaine, and Loni Cox. So what did we do??? Russ sang not one but two songs; it s always a treat to hear him work the vocal chords along with the fretboard. Steve brought his octave mandolin (pictured here) that he plays much better than he admits. A phone went off during the meeting; of course, we blamed it on Floyd though it clearly wasn t his phone. After the meeting, Floyd was grinning ear to ear. My phone did go off, but you didn t hear it, did you? Nope, sure didn t. That s cuz I had it in my pocket. Which begs the question, where do you normally keep it when we DO hear it? That might be the reason for the big grin Who stole the show? The same guy that usually does, Marvin, pictured here to the right. He did My Way, (think Sinatra, but the American version was written by Paul Anka) warning us that he was going to do it his way, which he certainly did. He also did Roger Miller s King of the Road his way, with some lyrics I ve never heard before. It was pretty entertaining stuff; all of our meetings are better when Marvin shows up. has retired! 3 Upcoming Events January 28, 208 Retirement Party 2-0pm American Legion Post E. Lincolnway Cheyenne, WY. Bill has called it quits after just 42 years. Party on Sunday so all Bill s working musician friends can make it. Bring your instrument for the jam, and bring a dish for the pot luck. Everyone is welcome. February 6, 208 Cheyenne Guitar Society 6:30-8:45pm. Laramie county Public Library 200 Pioneer Ave. We ll be in the WILLOW Room this month, that s the one on the first floor just across from the main library entrance. You can still ride the elevator if you want, just come back down to the first floor at the end of the ride. All are welcome, we re always happy to have you join us. February CGS Valentines Dinner and Concert 6pm-9pm Little America,Ballroom C. This year marks our 9th year for this event. Tickets are $55 for members, $60 non members, and we always sell out. Guitar Foundation of America s 207 winner, Xavier Jara, will be our guest guitarist. His performance is followed by plated meals of fish or meat, with special considerations available by prior arrangement.
