5 Signs Your Wardrobe Is Toxic and 4 Steps to Detoxify It Forever! Ginger Burr, AICI, President Total Image Consultant or Ginger@TotalImageConsultants.com

Ginger: Hi! This is Ginger Burr with Total Image Consultants and today we have a very popular topic; I ve been inundated with people registering. The topic is 5 Signs Your Wardrobe is Toxic and 4 Steps to Detoxify it Forever. It is doable, so if you re wondering whether forever is a real possibility, it is. I m excited to have you all here today; it s really wonderful on the one hand. On the other hand, I m sorry that so many of you are worried you have toxic wardrobes. If you do, here s what you can do about it. Just a reminder, if you have background noise, you may want to mute yourself; that means you can hear me but we can t hear you. To do that, press *6 on your phone and when we get to the question part, if you want to un-mute you can press *6 again. So if you have any background sound, please press *6. Basically I ve been in a lot of closets; I ve been in big closets, small closets, walk-in closets, deep closets, shallow closets you name it, I ve been there. A handful of them and honestly it s that few have been really well organized; most of them range between a little bit messy and downright chaotic. This isn t a judgment; women are busy and often organizing a closet or re-hanging clothes at the end of the day isn t a priority. Eventually it becomes unmanageable and it has to be done. I know many of you who can relate to this. I know not all of you on the call may be familiar with who I am. I see some friendly faces names, whatever who came through registration so that was nice. I have been a wardrobe consultant for 23 years, and I started back in the late 80 s when shoulder pads the size of Milwaukee were popular. They are coming back, just so you know, but not as large. But we re not here to talk about that today. My passion has been to help women feel great about how they look and for them to have a wardrobe that they ve only dreamed of. With all the makeover TV shows out there right now and fashion magazines month in and month out, it can be frustrating and distressing after a while you just feel like you re not getting it. As women, our bodies change. It can be having a baby, going through menopause, aging, having an illness and sometimes just figuring out how to dress that can be distressing. That s where I come in to help people make sense of all of that and make it work for their lives and their wardrobe. Who wants to be worrying about what they re going to wear every day? Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 2 Total Image Consultants

Today we re going to address some of what is going on for you. If you re on this call, then there s a chance your closet needs a little makeover. I will give you the 5 signs your wardrobe is toxic and 4 steps to detoxify it. If the topic alone makes you nervous, just breathe, sip something to drink, listen and see what comes up for you. You don t have to do anything right now; just take it in a bit. Some people will take this information and run with it and others will, despite very good intentions, get sidetracked or frustrated. Wherever you are in this continuum is okay. Some of you may need more guidance and support, and for those of you who do, I ll be introducing you sporadically throughout the class today my new program called the Fashion Fairy Godmother program. To give you a heads up you can find out all the details any time at There s a very special bonus for the first few people that sign up and there s a very special introductory price. You can learn all about it on the site and I will tell you a little more about it as we go along. For those of you who want to do very little work on this and have an instant transformation with as little effort as possible, there s nothing wrong with that; you have a couple of options. Some of the things I ll tell you to do you ll say Oh, I can t do that. There are a couple things you can do. One is to get a friend or family member to nominate you for What Not to Wear. I know they recently filmed someone in Salem, Massachusetts that will be on the air in January. Your transformation, if you re on that program, will be witnessed by the entire world and I know not everybody wants that. The other thing is to sign up for my Total Image Transformation program; it s not on my website but I can tell you about it. If you re not in the Boston area and don t want to travel here, let me know and I ll be more than happy to find you an image consultant. I know many image consultants all over the world. If you re somebody who says I want to wave a magic wand and have it be done, that s okay. And you might surprise yourself and find out it s not as challenging as you thought that it s actually doable and you don t have to go on What Not to Wear. The Fashion Fairy Godmother program, I think, is a very exciting program for women who never seem to get ahead when it comes to organizing their closet and creating a wardrobe they love, and they know they need more assistance. They re willing to do what they need to do if they have regular support and encouragement and tried and Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 3 Total Image Consultants

true tactics for getting rid of clothes that don t work and bringing in those that do. As several people have told me lately and some of you may have identified with this I hate to shop, but then they qualify it by saying If I knew what to buy, I might like to shop. I have a feeling some of you are saying That would be nice. Sometimes this is a symptom of feeling frustrated because you don t know how and you re frustrated every time you try. You feel like I don t even want to go into the stores. I also know not every one has the budget to bring in an image consultant to work with one-on-one, or as I mentioned before, there s no image consultant near them. I ve always believed everyone deserves and can benefit from some kind of help, even those of us who are image consultants. I met with a whole bunch of image consultants yesterday and we were all giving each other tips and advice. And, for people who need a little extra support, the Fashion Fairy Godmother program is a new way of addressing all these issues and I ll tell you more about that later on. Now, let s talk about the 5 signs of a toxic wardrobe, and let s also talk about why you want to detoxify it first. Generally speaking, if you do not feel delight every time you open your closet then chances you re tolerating it being less than ideal. And a toleration, as some of you know, is something that you put up with that drains your energy and at first, you might not even realize you re putting up with it. This toleration is weighing on you regularly, and it s never completely out of sight and it s not even completely out of your mind. Of course, what can happen is that you get so used to it, you don t notice the heaviness of the burden. But it s still there and it s weighing on your psyche and it also weighs on your self-esteem. For those of you who are using the Who Taught You How To Dress? program, you know we talk a lot about that because there s definitely a connection. There s also a belief that the universe abhors a vacuum so if you ve been frustrated by not finding wonderful new clothes that you love, the universe could be saying Yikes! You have no room to add anything else, so go get rid of those things that you don t like and then the beautiful things will suddenly appear for you to buy. I know some of you are rolling your eyes at that idea, but what have you got to lose? It could be an interesting experiment to find out if that is true. Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 4 Total Image Consultants

I also want to share with you some information from my very dear friend, (Ivana Madiori) of Fashion Feng Shui fame. Some of you might know her and some of you might remember I did a teleclass with her back in July that was great fun and really well-attended. I asked her if she d be willing to share with me some of the basic principles of feng shui as they apply to your wardrobe. I m going to read a little bit in a minute, and this comes from her book Fashion Feng Shui: The Power of Dressing with Intention. She says In fashion feng shui, clothes are living beings, vibrationally attached with everyone and everything which which they have come into contact. Clothes are alive with the chi, or life-force energy, of every being animal, vegetable, or mineral that has contributed to their existence. You must be aware of what s in your closet and how you arrange it in order to optimize its impact in your life. When your closet is filled with efficiently arranged, well cared-for garments that you love, need, and wear all the time, your every clothes encounter fuels you with positive energy. If the condition of your closet is overwhelming, frustrating, or depressing, you can expect the same kind of energy to manifest around you. Negative energy depletes you, reducing your magnificence, and undermining your potential. I want to read that again to make sure you really got that. If the condition of your closet is overwhelming, frustrating, or depressing, you can expect the same kind of energy to manifest around you. Negative energy depletes you, reducing your magnificence, and undermining your potential. And then she talks about clothing past lives, which is really fascinating to me; I didn t know that much about it as specifically as she goes into it. She says Since garments retain the energy of their previous lives, it is important to be aware of their vibrational quality in history or provenance. You can determine a garment s energetic provenance and value by assessing its constitution and condition. Constitution describes the materials used to make the garment; condition refers to the overall quality of a garment, which is affected by factors pre-, during and post-manufacture. Clothes that are made from organically produced materials have more positive associations or happy memories attached to them. Clothes made by loving hands, environmental and social responsible companies will have a corresponding beneficial impact on you. Clothes which carry energetic imbalances such as garments that have experienced trauma, sadness, or disease may trigger unpleasant Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 5 Total Image Consultants

memories or emotions for you. Those manufactured from tainted materials or in unpleasant surroundings may affect you negatively. This made me realize there may be a good opportunity at some point to do a program about this on vegan and cruelty-free fashion, but that s for another day. Fashion feng shui recommends that you choose clothing whose provenance honors your personal values. If a garment s energetic imprint concerns you, clear the vibration with a positive affirmation. And for those of you who have the Who Taught You How to Dress? Home Study program, this month s monthly teleclass you know we spent the entire class talking about things like affirmations and the power of an affirmation when done well and done in a way that resonates with you. I totally agree with her on that one that it can be very, very powerful. For those of you who want to learn more, I highly recommend her book; again, it s Fashion Feng Shui: The Power of Dressing with Intention. As you can see, a wardrobe is much more than simple pieces of cloth we put on to cover ourselves. It has an energy which has a visceral effect on us. This is why, on many levels, we want to make sure we re paying attention and our clothing is in harmony with our values and our personality. I know some of you are thinking back as to whether this is true for you, and as we go along be aware of that thought in your head because that is very, very important. It s always how I work with my clients; you want your clothing in line with your values and your personality. What does a toxic wardrobe look like? See if one or more of these signs sound familiar. Some of you have already told me that they all do, from the letters I sent out earlier. Also know that at the end of the call I ll open it up for questions so if things come up for you just make a note and we ll talk about them more at that point, so jot down questions if you have them. What makes a wardrobe toxic? Every day, at least twice once to put clothes on in the morning and once in the evening to put them away you open your closet. Assuming you don t spend all day in your nightgown, it s one of the first things you do to start your day. Just think, if you are beginning your day by feeling frustrated or sad or annoyed or angry every time you look in your closet, whatever emotion Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 6 Total Image Consultants

it brings up for you, how does that impact the rest of your day? It can t be good for your psyche or your self-esteem if one of your first emotions of the day is negative. At least, I wouldn t think it would and I wouldn t want to start the day that way. And, so many women have this experience day in and day out and I m not just talking for days or weeks or months, but sometimes years and even decades. And yet often what happens is that women feel totally helpless do to anything about it because they ve tried with minimal or frustrating results. Sometimes they re reluctant to try one more time. In fact, it seems like your closet has a life of its own and any previous attempts to resolve it have felt futile. So think about your closet; what is the emotion that comes up for you when you go into it? Is it positive or negative? Does it leave you feeling stressed or happy? Joy would be a great way to feel when you open your closet to start the day. The goal here today is to give you some tools so that you can address your toxic closet and wardrobe and where getting dressed every morning is joyful. That really is the goal and it is very doable. When I do seminars, I often start out with a questionnaire and the first question on there is Is getting dressed in the morning a joyful experience? and I can t tell you how many people laugh when they see that. I want you to know it really can happen; it really can. I know you haven t given up because you re on this call and still looking for ways to make it work for you, and hopefully some of the things you learn today will help you get moving in a direction that feels really good to you. So take a peek in your closet, either literally if you re near it, or in your mind. Is it a black hole? Do things just kind of disappear in there? Do you think I wonder what happened to that sweater I bought two weeks ago? I know it must be in here somewhere. Do you know what s in there? Or if you went looking for things, would you find things that you thought were long gone and they re tucked way in the back somewhere and still there? Can you find things easily and quickly or does it look like a bomb went off? And this question that everybody loves do you wear everything in there? Think about those questions. Then the last question: Is it toxic? Do you try to get in and out as quickly as possible so you don t have to Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 7 Total Image Consultants

really look at it? Do you feel a sense of dread each time you have to get dressed? These are all toxic responses to your wardrobe. And the good news is it doesn t have to stay that way. Let s go over the 5 telltale signs that your wardrobe is toxic: 1 it s overflowing. Everything is squished in. This is not only common, but rampant in women s closets. I see it at least 4 out of 5 times when I do a wardrobe consultation. Not only is there a psychological impact to this but it also has physical ramifications for your clothes. In other words, when you have an overflowing, squishedin closet, your clothes are wrinkled. I can pretty much guess how much people love to iron, so if you pull something out and it s wrinkled, what are the chances you would wear it? My brother he would shoot me if he knew I was telling you this has been known to take a shirt, put it on the floor, pick it up a day or two later, put it on and go, Oh, look. My body heat will make the wrinkles go away. Yeah, and what planet do you live on? I don t think so! Ironing is something he would never even consider doing. So if you have an overflowing closet, things are squished in there so the wrinkles are set in. It also means you have an inability to find things quickly; if they re squished in, you can t find something that may be hidden by something else. There s also something important and a lot of times I don t think we think of this; if your clothes are squished, they can t breathe. Then, things like odors and stains can get trapped and they reduce the lifespan of your wardrobe in general. The thing to think about here is, why is your wardrobe overflowing? - if this is an issue for you. For more than half of my life, I ve lived in an old house, and if you know old houses, you know many of them have small closets. So I ve either had the option of having my clothes squished in to my closet which, I m sure you can guess was not something I wanted to do or I ve made sure I have a very manageable wardrobe where I wore everything. To give you another little tip, I would take everything that was off season to the dry cleaner and store it there because I didn t have I had 3 closets in my entire house. No linen closet, no closet for coats; none of that. I ve learned since then to make the most of the closet space I have and make sure I m wearing everything in there. A lot of times women have too many clothes; there are many reasons why. Sometimes it s because you re constantly searching for the Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 8 Total Image Consultants

perfect, seemingly elusive pieces that will make you happy. Then when you buy the next piece and it doesn t make you happy, you stick it in there and go searching for the next piece and hope that you ll be able to create a wardrobe. Or maybe you love to shop, and you take things home, even though you don t have room and try to squish it in there with everything else. Or and I know this true for a number of people you have a hard time getting rid of anything. Either because you think you ll need it down the road a year or a month later, or you don t have anything else to take its place. There are lots of reasons, though. Whatever the reason is, it s clear that it s not serving you to have this many clothes in your closet, so detoxifying it and we ll talk about this in a while will make a huge difference for you. 2 it s a mess. Clothes are everywhere, there s no discernible system or way to find things easily. I know that you know if you have a messy closet, but here are some signs: Do things fall out? Do you have piles on the floor or piles on the shelf? Maybe you have dirty clothes there or things that won t fit on the hanging space, or clothes that fell off the hanger and are now on the floor. Do you have other things in there? I ve been in closets where there is luggage or books or bags of hangers or even vacuum cleaners; what else do you have in your closet besides clothes? Where are your shoes? I can t tell you how many closets I ve been in where there s no organization to shoes, and it makes it really hard to find what you want and it s not good for the shoes either. Are things hung haphazardly or is there a system to it? We ll talk about that in a few minutes as well. I ve even seen walk-in closets that you can t walk into. You know if you have those and you re very, very lucky if you have a walk-in closet, so let s see what we can do to make it useful for you. 3 Whether your closet is big or small, there s nothing in it that you want to wear. Whether it s organized or not, how much of your wardrobe do you actually wear? 50 percent? 40? 20? 10? Ten percent is the number I ve been hearing a lot from women lately. It used to be said that you wear 20 percent of your clothes 80 percent of the time; I m seeing it as being less and less than that. That means you ve got a lot of things in there that, for one reason or another, aren t working for you. Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 9 Total Image Consultants

The other problem with that is if you re only wearing a small percentage of the clothing you have, you get a false sense of security that you have more than you actually do. And I once did a wardrobe consultation with a woman this is not the only time this has happened and in the end, we had this pile, a very large pile, on her bed. One of the piles were these for you who are old enough, you ll remember there was a long period of time in the 80 s when we wore the silk shells and she had them in probably 15 different colors. First of all, they didn t fit her anymore they were all too big and she didn t wear them anymore. She said to me But I have nothing to wear. I started going through the things on her bed that we had pulled out and I said, When was the last time you wore this? She would say Oh, a year or two ago. And we went through a large portion of her wardrobe and she realized that the things that were in her closet, a large percentage she wasn t wearing anyway. Sometimes we don t realize that until we start to take things out. 4 Your closet is filled with separates that, despite honorable intentions, refuse to mix and match. Now, be honest; how many pieces do you have in your closet that you bought for whatever reason, thinking you could find things to mix and match with them, but those pieces just sit there by themselves? What happens is, it looks like you have full wardrobe. You might like those separate pieces you might even like them a lot, but you can t make a complete outfit out of them if your life depended on it; at least not anything you would want to wear. So buying a piece here and a piece there often is seen as a way to save money, but it often costs you more in the end. All you have to do is add up the cost of the pieces you aren t wearing and you ll see what I mean. 5 - You have 2 or 3 different sizes in your closet at once. Okay, don t panic; I know that most women have 2 or 3 sizes of clothing at any time in their life in their house. I say house, because we don t want 2 or 3 different sizes in your closet at one time. There s only 1 size at a time that s fitting you at any given moment, so anything that s not fitting you shouldn t be in there at that point. But you can have different sizes in your possession; just not in your closet. So before you all hang up because you re so depressed, let s talk about what to do about all this and I promise it isn t a lost cause. Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 10 Total Image Consultants

Addressing your closet woes, whatever is making it toxic, is step number 1 to creating a beautiful wardrobe. You want to have a wardrobe that makes you smile every time you open your closet. If you ignore this step and you already know this your wardrobe will be a constant sense of frustration and overwhelm and stress. Please don t under-estimate the exercise of cleaning out your closet, and that s what we re going to be talking about. You absolutely must do this first step if you want to create a wardrobe you love. Otherwise, the universe abhors a vacuum and you can t put more things in there until make room for more. That will keep you from having a wardrobe that you really love. So remember, every step you take here today brings you one step closer to your goal, so don t be hard on yourself if you re not doing everything or if, in the next week, you don t have it all done. It s okay. Really, take one step because what have you got to lose, except a wardrobe that doesn t make you happy. Let s get started; I m now going to share with you 4 solutions to make your wardrobe happy. They include: (1) the number 1 thing every wardrobe needs, besides a mom who will pick up after us; (2) a quick daily exercise to help you over time transform your closet; (3) effortless closet organizing I have to admit it s almost effortless; and (4) the number 1 thing you should never, ever buy. This tip alone will transform your wardrobe. 1 The number 1 thing every closet needs. Because closets have doors of one kind or another, it s easy to ignore them whether it s your clothing closet or your pantry or your coat closet. Close the door and we basically believe it s out of sight, out of mind. It s not quite that easy. You have to go in there again at some point, so even if you feel like you can push it out of your mind, you still have to go in there the next day to put clothes away or get new ones out. Somewhere in your psyche, you hold onto the clutter and it weighs on your mind. When I bought the house that I m in now 3 ½ years ago as I said, I ve lived a lot of my life in very old homes without a lot of closet space, and the home I live in now still doesn t have a lot of closet space but it has more than my other homes have had. When I saw this closet now for those of you who have walk-in closets, if you saw my closet you would barely call it walk-in, but for me it was a walk-in closet. Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 11 Total Image Consultants

The very first thing I did was hire a closet person to come in and help me organize every available inch of space in that closet and it made such a big difference. That s not the number 1 thing every closet needs, although I highly recommend it and if you need the name of somebody in the Boston area, I have a fabulous person so me and I ll give you her name. The number one thing, and it s so easy to do, is getting the right hangers. Now some of you may have heard me talk about those. I have found that if you go to there are plastic hangers like the ones you see in department stores; if you buy them in drug or department stores, you ll pay at least $1 a piece. If you buy them at you can get a box of 100 for $36. If you think When will I use 100 hangers?, you ll be surprised. And even if you won t, share it with a friend or family member. It s amazing how quickly you can use 100 hangers. When everything hangs uniformly in the closet, oh my goodness, it all of a sudden looks less messy. And even if it means that as you take something out of the closet and wear it, you put it back on a new hanger even if you do it that way rather than spending half an hour or an hour or whatever it might take in your closet to change all the hangers you would eventually end up with all the things you wear on good hangers. And notice I said all the things that you wear ; it might also tell you what you re not wearing. If 6 months from now, something is still on one of those horrible wire hangers, take them off of those as soon as they come home, and take them out of the plastic for sure and put them on a good hanger. You can recycle the plastic and the hangers at your dry cleaners. So the number 1 thing you want is hangers. If you have another kind of hanger you prefer, that s fine. I like the plastic ones because they swivel on the top, you can get little they re little things you put on the edge of the hangers so things don t fall off of them. You can get like a million of them for $5 or something. You can also get them at 2 Once a day, either in the morning when you get dressed or if it s more peaceful at night for you, remove one thing from your closet and ask yourself the following questions about it: Have I worn it in the past year? Is it part of a complete outfit right now? Do I love it and think it s beautiful? If you answer no to any one question, remove the item from your closet and either store it somewhere else, give it to a friend or donate it Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 12 Total Image Consultants

some place. If you want to give it another year or give yourself more time to find something to go with it, that s fine. If you do this once a day for the next 30 days, imagine how much you can transform your closet. And all you have to do each day is take out one thing you haven t been wearing, remove it and ask those questions. Have a little box by your closet to put it in. Those are the first 2 solutions for detoxifying your closet, and while you re digesting those for a moment, I want to give you a preview of the Fashion Fairy Godmother program and tell you a little bit about how all that will work for those of you who might want a little extra help with this. For more than 22 years, I ve been working with women to transform their wardrobes and make them smile and make their lives easier. I ve found women are hungry for information and also for support in creating this especially as they get older, women are sick of putting up with clothes that don t speak to who they are on a very deep level. I know some of you have been with my Aligning Your Inner and Outer Beauty workshop, so you know what I m talking about. When you don t honor who you are, you can feel it in the clothing. That never makes you feel good. But sometimes you have to go a little deeper than you ve been going. I don t want to get into all that right now because we don t have enough time, but it s something we talk about in the Fashion Fairy Godmother program or for those of you who have Who Taught You How to Dress?, there s a whole chapter on this as well. This program is for you if you re ready to honor you give up good for great, as my friend (Cheryl Richardson) says. Some of you may have read her book Stand Up For Your Life, and if you haven t, I highly recommend that book. It s fabulous for all aspects of your life, and can be helpful in creating a fabulous wardrobe as well. Doing this program will take some focus and will take some time on your part, and yes, it will be a journey. Lasting results rarely happen over night, but I promise you it will be worth. I know many women are at a lost as to where to start and what works, and they worry if they try something new they ll look silly or in appropriate. The Fashion Fairy Godmother program is a 7-month program designed to remove those concerns. I will be walking you hand in hand through the process of creating a wardrobe you love. You ll have time with me both virtually on the phone and in person and this is the most exciting Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 13 Total Image Consultants

part. There s an amazing 2-day retreat scheduled in Salem, Massachusetts at the historical Hawthorne Hotel. I ve already reserved it and guess what? You can follow in the footsteps of What Not to Wear? if you re interested in that show. I recently found out they filmed an episode there, but I promise I won t have any television cameras there. And I promise in the 23 years I ve been in this business, I ve never done a 2-day retreat ever, so this is the first one of its kind. The Fashion Fairy Godmother program is open to 20 women, and right now there s an amazing introductory price and special bonuses. You can find out all those details on And at the end of the program, I ll tell you even more about what you can expect from that. Every time I think about it, I add something new to it. Just in the past few days, I ve been planning little surprise presents for all the women in the program throughout the 7 months. I m not going to tell you what they are, but I think it s important to reward women for taking a giant step like this. If this is something you want to do and can afford to do, here s a little exercise. As part of the exercise I told you about removing one piece every day, simply add up what you spent on each piece. Chances are really good because I ve done lots of wardrobe consultations the total would be way more than the cost of this entire program. The introductory price of this program is $997, and I m also offering 2- and 3-month payment plans. As one client said to me not too long ago, Ginger s fee was less than the cost of buying one bad suit I would probably have chosen without her help and the Fashion Fairy Godmother program falls into that same category. Being able to keep you from making those mistakes and helping you on the road to the wardrobe you love, had helping you do it on your own is exciting for me. That s just a little taste of what the Fashion Fairy Godmother program is, and let s go back to the solutions to detoxifying your wardrobe. 3 Effortless closet organizing, or almost effortless closet organizing. Now that you have consistent hangars and you re beginning to remove clothes that you don t wear, as you put clothes back away after you ve worn them, organize your clothes by color. So all your green long-sleeved shirts together, then your blue ones, then Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 14 Total Image Consultants

your black pants in one place, hang all your skirts together, hang your suits together if you wear them as that. You d be amazed, if you do this, how nice your closet will look and when you go to get dressed, how easy it will be to find the pieces you want to wear. Hopefully you already know what colors look great on you so you don t have every color of the rainbow in there, but you want to put it grouped by colors. 4 The number 1 thing you should never, ever buy and this tip will transform your wardrobe; I ve been known to forbid a client to do this ever, ever again. Never, ever buy a separate piece unless you are sure you have at least 2 things at home that will complete the outfit or you buy the rest of it when you buy that one item you are in love with. Now, I know that a lot of women love to run into TJ Maxx - or you want to find things at a really good price or Marshall s or Target, and you find this one fabulous piece and really love it and you ll find a piece to go with it later. And what happens? Nine times out of 10 it sits in your closet. I can t tell you how many times I ve done wardrobe consultations with women, spring and summer skirts in particular with those pretty patterns and now they re trying to find a top to go with it. So that one little pretty skirt they love sits in the closet, never, ever worn. If you continue to buy separates that don t go with anything, you ll end up with a closet full of pieces that suck the money from your wallet and offer nothing in return but a full wardrobe that you can t wear. In fact, the other day I was talking with a client and she was so cute; as we were putting together a pastel wardrobe, she recited the rule back to me and said, See? I m doing that! It was fun to have her be so excited and to realize she was understanding that it doesn t work to buy separates unless you re absolutely sure you can create a whole outfit. And yesterday, I did a wardrobe consultation with a woman who said, I don t even go into Marshall s anymore because in the past I ve picked up a piece and it just sat in my closet. I don t do that anymore. So it s not to say you can t, but you need to make sure it goes with at least 2 things in your existing wardrobe, or you buy the other things that go with it. So, let s recap the 4 solutions for detoxifying your wardrobe: Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 15 Total Image Consultants

1 really great hangers. And as I said, has a huge box of 100 for around $36 that will probably keep you in hangers for the rest of your life. 2 a quick daily exercise you can do to transform your closet over time, and that is to take one piece out each day and remove it. Ask yourself those 3 questions we talked about earlier, and if you answered no to any of those, then it goes away. 3 effortless closet organizing. Organize by color and style and if you really don t want to begin that process by spending some time reorganizing things, just do it as you put things away. 4 the number 1 thing you should never, ever buy, and that s separates unless you know it goes with at least 2 things you already have or you buy the other pieces to go with it. And you know what? Think about the shoes. Sometimes what happens is you get all the other pieces together and get home and say Oh, I don t have the right boots or the right shoes. Even think about your jewelry; make sure you can create an entire outfit from the separates you buy. Okay, so we been covering a lot so far and what I d like to do now is open it up for questions. Then I ll give you a little more information about the Fashion Fairy Godmother, and then I ll share a bonus tip with you about detoxifying your wardrobe. Let s open it up. Is there anyone who has a question? If you do, you can un-mute by pressing *6. XXX: Ginger: XXX: Ginger: XXX: Ginger: XXX: I have a very quick question. The 3 things about how to get rid of things; the last one was do you really love it and is it beautiful, and what were the two before it? The other two are: Have you worn it in the past year? And is it part of a complete outfit you can wear right now? Thank you. You re welcome. Other questions? That means it s not one of those separates that you re still waiting for something to go with it. If it s one of those, don t have it in your working closet if you can t wear it right now. Maybe have a holding room or a holding drawer until you find something at the store, but don t have it in your closet. Thank you. This has been great, by the way. Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 16 Total Image Consultants

Great! Are there other questions? Kathy: I don t have a question because I wrote down a few questions but you answered them during this call so I just wanted to say thank you. The biggest thing for me and I have Who Taught You How to Dress?, so I knew this, but for whatever reason it wasn t sticking with me. I have too many clothes in my working closet and you ve given me some great action steps to go in and clean that out. You ve also created a great awareness for me around the connection to what s happening in other areas of my life with what s happening in my closet. Ginger: Kathy: Ginger: Kathy: Ginger: XXX: Ginger: XXX: Ginger: Absolutely. You re very in touch with energy so I m not surprised that would really click for you. That was a big one. Even through this call, I m reconnecting to my love of fashion and I m facing the truth of what s in my closet, so I need to get in there. And maybe you will find little buried treasures in there when you begin to pull things out and find ways to use them. That s awesome. Thank you, Kathy. Thank you! Any other questions? Did I answer all of them? There s still a minute left or so and I m happy to answer another one. I can t find Fashion Fairy Godmother online It s Thank you. Okay, so let me just tell you a little bit more about the Fashion Fairy Godmother program. For those of you who either need more hands-on support, this program does that. I just wanted to say if any of you have Who Taught You How to Dress? and you want to sign up for the Fashion Fairy Godmother program, please send me an and I will send you a special code that will give you $100 off the program since you already have the Who Taught You How to Dress? and you don t need another one. How does it all work? You can read part of this on Everybody will get a private Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 17 Total Image Consultants

30-minute consultation with me at the beginning of the program where we ll talk about what your intentions are, what you d like to get out of the program, and get a sense of knowing each other a little bit and a sense of expectations. I want to make sure you really have a sense of where you d like to be at the end of 7 months. There will also be 7 monthly teleclasses and I m thinking of adding 3 more teleclasses and inviting some special guests to be on those teleclasses, and only you will get to hear them. There will also be 3 virtual style retreats; I ll explain them a little more later, but I ll give you a hint what it is. We ll take 3 hours and we ll set up these times as a group where together, virtually on the phone we will do a closet cleaning in one of them, we will create a fashion treasure map in another of the style retreats, and you ll actually do shopping with my help in a virtual style retreat towards the end of the program and after the 2-day retreat, so you will have lots of information and lots of tricks and tried-and-true tactics so don t worry; it ll be around May or June. Then there will be that 2-day in-person retreat. We will be doing some of that aligning inner and outer beauty work, we will be doing a lot of wardrobe work, accessory work it will be an opportunity to really finetune some of the things you ve learned in the first 4 months and get ready for the last 3 months of the program as well. There will be an outfit review of 4 of your outfits, and we will do this it can be done in my studio if you happen to live nearby; otherwise, it can be done online very easily. And then, I had planned to this but not using Facebook until I talked to a friend of mine, there will be a private Facebook group set up where you will have almost constant access to me. You ll be able to show me pictures of outfits you ve put together or outfits that are frustrating you and you ll get immediate feedback and suggestions. And then you re also going to get a list of my favorite resources; I ve never put this together before so at this point, you ll be the first and only people to get that. You ll also get your own copy of Who Taught You How to Dress? which I ve gotten some great feedback on; I love working with it and I love hearing the transformations people are having working with it on their own. I ll also be sending little special, delicious gifts that will be surprise gifts. Then, for the first 2 people that register, they will get VIP tickets to dinner with me on the Saturday night during the retreat. It will be a Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 18 Total Image Consultants

private dinner, and the first two people that register for the Fashion Fairy Godmother program will get tickets. That s the big bonus. And I ve decided to offer another impromptu gift for the 3 rd and 4 th persons to register don t tell my marketing person! You will get a $25 gift certificate to Jewelry by (Karelle), which if any of you have seen me or any of my pictures on line, or any of the before and after pictures on my website, most of it is (Karen Halleby s) Jewelry by (Karelle). Her amazing jewelry, she s going to be at the 2-day retreat part of the time and you will have a $25 gift certificate for that. You can go to to learn more, and you can always me if you have questions. Here s the bonus tip; for those of you who ve stayed on to hear it, what is the proximity of your closet to your mirror? I m talking full-length mirror. If you have to walk down a hall and through 3 bedrooms or the equivalent to get to a full-length mirror, you need to invest in a new one. It doesn t have to be anything fancy. You can put one on the back of your door. Or if you d like this fabulous one that I have that you can also put all of your jewelry in, let me know and I ll send you the details of that. Or, if you don t have a full-length mirror but think you can get by using the mirror on your dresser or your bathroom mirror or you can only see yourself from the waist up, please don t do that. Please go to Walmart or Kmart and get a full-length mirror that you can put on your closet door or your bedroom door. You won t believe the difference this will make when you re dressing and you won t believe the difference it will make in your experience. You ll be going Wow, I was going to wear that? It s a little bit of that out of sight, out of mind thing; if you don t see it, then it must be okay. If you can t see the whole outfit, you can t know if you really love the way it looks. I want to thank all of you for being on the call today and I hope you ve taken away 1 or 2 things; don t do more than that if it feels overwhelming. Start with things you can apply immediately and if you need any extra help, go to or me; I ll be happy to answer any of your questions. I thank you all for being on here. It s been a lot of fun and I m excited to share all this information for you. Have a really good night bye-bye! Ginger Burr, AICI, CIP 19 Total Image Consultants
