1 Dear Rising Fourth Graders, Attached is your list of summer reading books. The fourth grade teachers require you to read No Talking, by Andrew Clements, and the Gospels of Mark and Luke, for Miss Valerie. You might want to read No Talking closer to the end of summer so that it is fresh on your mind. As for the Gospels, there are 3 ways you may choose to read them. 1. Purchase the New International Reader s Version - Kid s Study Bible (ISBN # ). Some of you already have this version because you purchased it this year through the Lower School Library. 2. Go to go to the search box and choose New International Reader s Version. Pick the Gospel you want to read. This online version is exactly written as the hard copy. 3. Go to for the audio version. Go to the menu on the left and choose New International Version. (This is different from option #2. It is not the Reader s version.) Pick the Gospel you want to hear and choose a reader voice. When you return to school in August, you will read the Gospel of John and later you will read the Gospel of Matthew with Mrs. Valerie. You may know that students in the past have read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis, for part of their summer reading. This coming school year, your teacher will read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe aloud in class. You are also required to choose one other book from the list. You will write a graded book report on your chosen book when you return to school. We hope you will read many more than just the required number of books. City of Orphans by Avi The purpose of the South Carolina Children s Book Award is to encourage South Carolina students to read good quality contemporary literature and to honor the author of the book chosen the favorite by student vote. In order to vote in this state-wide competition, students will need to read at least 5 of the above nominees by February The book award medal will be awarded to the winning author in March The Book Award Committee is made up of a cross section of media specialists, teachers, students, parents, administrators, public librarians, and college or university representatives from around the state. They must each read titles each year which are then discussed and evaluated at regular meetings. It is their efforts that afford you each year's carefully selected reading list in each category: picture books, children, junior, and young adult. Do you love pizza and ice cream sundae parties??? If so, read at least 10 of the above nominees by the end of February 2014 and you will be invited to our pizza and ice cream sundae party in March Get started this summer!
