Johnson Stock and Other Worldwide Properties Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion, 2 East 79th Street, New York, NY United States: Single Stamps, Pairs and Postal History The Earliest Recorded Letter Originating from the Texas Republic bearing a Postal Adhesive (Aug. 13), let ter from Galveston to Eng land, via New Or leans and New York, stampless folded lettersheet date lined Au gust 13, 1840, Galveston Texas, first trav el ling by a pri vate mail bag to a for ward ing agent in New Or leans, "Wil liam Prehn", who put it in an other mail bag to a for ward ing agent in New York, "John Gilrout & Co.", whose en dorse ment is dated Au gust 25th, once again the let ter trav eled by pri vate mail bag ad dressed to a Brit ish firm of for ward ing agents, "Al ex an der Mccalmont Bros, & Co.", of Liv er pool, where the let ter re ceived its first Post Of fice mark ings "Liv er pool Ship Let ter" and "8" (8d ship post age due). The McCalmont Bros paid the 8d and stuck the Penny Black (Plate 6) on the let ter, crossed out their own name and ad dress, and added the word "York", the rec can cel la tion on the ad he sive is un usu ally like the York Cross.; lettersheet hinge re in force ment and in di ca tions of open ing not af fect - ing the mark ings or in teg rity of this rar ity, immaculate and Very Fine; 2007 Brandon certificate.
