4 1. INTRODUCTION This manual explains how to suspend or stack a KH7 cluster. Although this manual contains an ample amount of useful information on rigging in general, it does not claim to be a comprehensive resource on the subject. This manual assumes that the owner(s) and/or user(s) of a K-array system are knowledgeable and experienced in the areas of rigging and flying loudspeaker systems. Many points, such as the determination of appropriateness and condition of venue rigging points, cannot be addressed here. Therefore, the user must assume all responsibility for the appropriate use of K-array systems, in any particular location or circumstance. It is recommended to attend the training courses offered by K-array before proceeding with the installation of the system. 2. system components KH7 KH7 unit. SAFETY information Read these instructions - Keep these instructions - Heed all warnings Warning: failure to follow these safety instructions could result in fire, shock or other injury or damage to the device or other property. Laws and regulations: The suspension of large, heavy objects in public places is subject to numerous laws and regulations at the national, federal, state, provincial, and local levels. This manual does not address the specifics of any such applicable laws and government regulations. This manual details procedures and practices consistent with those generally acknowledged as allowable and safe in Europe. However, the user must assume responsibility for making sure that use of any K-array system and its components in any particular circumstance or venue conforms to all applicable laws and regulations in force at the time. Safety factor: KH7-FLYH and KH7_FLYV are in conformity with UNI EN 13155:2009. The safety factor is equal to 7:1 on the breaking load (up to 12 KH7 units can be suspended in horizontal position and up to 7 KH7 units can be suspended in vertical position). However, there are wide variations internationally in the regulations and practices applying to suspension of sound systems in public places. Government officials in one location may have a stricter interpretation than another local official, even when operating under the same regulations and in the same legal jurisdiction. Consequently, users of K-array rigging systems should be prepared to take additional safety assurance measures beyond those outlined in this manual. in all cases, it is the responsibility of the user to make certain that any K-array loudspeaker system is suspended in accordance with all applicable national, federal, state, provincial, and local regulations. Attachment point: In most touring applications, the touring sound provider is normally responsible for ensuring the safety of the suspension system only below the attachment point. The safety and suitability of the attachment point is generally seen as the responsibility of the venue owner or operator. However, touring system operators should double check to make certain that attachment points are approved and suitably load rated and that the points used are those identified as such by the venue owner or operator. Personnel health and safety: During installation and setup, personnel should wear protective headgear and footwear at all times. Under no circumstances should personnel climb on the loudspeaker assembly. Wind loads: In case of outdoor installation, assure that wind does not interfere with the system s stability, taking extra securities like chains, weights, ropes or any other certified anchoring systems. Ground stacking: Do not ground stack a cluster on uneven ground or platform. If the system is ground stacked on a structure, platform or stage always check that it can support the total weight of the system. 5

8 5. suspending a cluster The KH7-FLYH and KH7-FLYV accessories allow users to suspend a KH7 cluster. The KH7-FLYH bumper is able to suspend KH7 units both horizontally (up to 12 units) and vertically (up to 7 units) while the KH7-FLYV bumper is able to suspend KH7 units in vertical position only (up to 7 units). 9 DO NOT PROCEED IN THIS MANNER! Do not connect all the units together and then move the cluster up. This will damage the speakers and may cause the cluster to fall causing injury or even death. Connect the first unit to the fly-bar, move it up just enough to put the second unit below. Connect the two units together and move them up and so on, as explained in the next pages. 9

10 The following step-by-step instructions explain how to fly a cluster with the KH7 units in a vertical alignment. The mounting procedure for the KH7 in horizontal position is not dissimilar. 1. Pull out the two plates and the eight pins situated at the back of each KH7 unit. 2. Position the first unit vertically with the four rubber feet facing downwards. Insert the two plates as shown in the figure below. Pay attention to the orientation: the plates must be vertically oriented with the printed arrow facing upwards. Rubber feet facing downwards 10

11 3. Fasten the four pins to secure the plates to the KH7. Check that the security sphere of the piston pin is visible at the opposite end and cannot all out. The pin must only be released when the push button has been pressed. 4. Position the fly bar above the unit. 11

12 5. Secure the fly bar to the plates with four pins. 6. Hook the bumper to the motor chain. The motor chain can be connected directly to the KH7-FLYH or KH7-FLYV fly bars using Omega shackles that are supplied with the system and stainless steel hooks with security fastening (not supplied). The KH7-FLYV has one pick-up point and the KH7-FLYH has three pick-up points. The figures below show the possible configurations. Each KH7 unit is approximately 52 kg. Check the total weight of the cluster and use appropriate motors. Use the Omega shackles supplied with the system. Ensure that the thread locking compound is in a locked position. Use stainless steel hooks with security fastening (not supplied). Check that the lock is securely fastened. 12

13 7. Move up the first unit just enough to put a second unit below. Connect the two units using the same procedure used to link the first unit to the bumper. Repeat for the next units. WARING: Do not suspend more than 7 units in a vertical position or more than 12 units in a horizontal position. 13

14 6. stacking kh7 UNITS A single KH7 unit can be positioned on a flat surface in a horizontal position without any additional accessories. Ensure that the rubber feet are facing downwards To put a single unit in vertical position or to ground stack a KH7 cluster, use the KH7-BASE accessory shown in the picture below. Up to three units can be stacked in horizontal position and up to two units can be stacked in a vertical position. 6.1 Setting UP a horizontal CLUSTER 1. Ensure that the plates are positioned as shown in the picture below. 14

15 2. Pull out the two plates and the eight pins situated at the back of each KH7 unit. 3. Position the first unit on the base. Ensure that the four rubber feet on the KH7 are facing downwards towards the base and insert into the base. 15

16 4. Fasten the four pins to secure the plates to the KH7 unit. Check that the security sphere of the piston pin is visible at the opposite end and cannot accidently fall out. The pin must only be released when the push button has been pressed. 5. Insert the two plates as shown in the picture below. Ensure that the the plates are inserted horizontally. 16

17 6. Fasten four pins to secure the plates to the KH7 unit. 7. Position the second unit on top of the first. 17

19 6.2 Setting Up a VERTICAL cluster 1. By default, the plates on the base are positioned on each side of the apparatus. To mount the KH7 vertically, move the plates to the center as shown in the pictures below. 19

20 2. Unscrew the four feet supporting the base so that it rests directly on the floor. 3. Pull the pommels (A) and remove the end pieces highlighted in the picture below. 20

21 4. Pull out the two plates and the eight pins situated at the back of each KH7 unit. 5. Place the first KH7 unit horizontally on the floor. Carefully position the unit on a flat and even surface. We recommend to place a carpet on the floor not to damage the grill of the KH7. 21

22 6. Insert the plates as shown in the picture below. Ensure that the the plates are inserted in horizontally in respect to the KH7. 7. Fasten four pins to secure the plates to the KH7 unit. 22

23 8. Position the second KH7 unit on the floor and connect it to the first unit. 9. Fasten four pins to secure the two units together. 23

24 10. Attach the base to the KH7 units as shown in the picture below. 11. Fasten four pins to secure the base to the KH7 units. 24

25 12. Stand the system upright. 13. Pull the pommels on the base (A) and reattach the end pieces of the base as shown in the picture below. 25

26 14. Level the base so that the KH7 units are in perfect vertical position. 26

27 7. SERVICE To obtain service: 1) Contact the official K-array distributor in your country. Your local distributor will direct you to the appropriate service center. 2) If you are calling for service, please have the serial number(s) of the unit(s) available for reference. Ask for Customer Service, and be prepared to describe the problem clearly and completely. 3) If the problem cannot be resolved over the phone, you may be required to send the unit in for service. In this instance, you will be provided with an RA (Return Authorization) number which should be included on all shipping documents and correspondence regarding the repair. Shipping charges are the responsibility of the purchaser. Any attempt to modify or replace components of the device will invalidate your warranty. Service must be performed by an authorized K-array service center. Cleaning: Use only a soft, dry cloth to clean the housing. Do not use any solvents, chemicals, or cleaning solutions containing alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives. Do not use any sprays near the product or allow liquids to spill into any openings.
