Write out how many ways a player can be dealt AA. Write out how many ways a player can be dealt AK. Write out how many ways a player can be dealt 66. Write out how many ways a player can be dealt 87. Write out how many ways a player can be dealt AK suited (hereinafter AKs). Write out how many ways a player can be dealt 87s. 1
From this we can extrapolate that pairs have the same number of potential combos and all unpaired hands have the same number of potential combos. We can also see that there are only four ways to make any two SPECIFIC suited cards. Now on to more challenging questions! Write out how many ways you can be dealt Ax of spades. If you can make Ax of spades 12 ways, how many ways can you make any Ax suited hand? How many ways can you make KQ, KJ, KT or K9 suited? 2
You have. How many ways can your opponent have Aces? How many ways can your opponent have Queens? How many ways can your opponent have Kings? How many ways can your opponent have AKs? How many ways can your opponent have 87s? How many ways can your opponent have AJ? You have. How many ways can your opponent have AKs? How many ways can your opponent have AA? How many ways can your opponent have JT? 3
You have and the flop comes. How many ways can your opponent have Aces? How many ways can your opponent have Kings? How many ways can your opponent have AK? How many ways can your opponent have AK suited? You have and the flop comes. How many ways can your opponent have Aces? How many ways can your opponent have Kings? How many ways can your opponent have AK? How many ways can your opponent have AK suited? 4
Now that you have gotten used to these types of calculations, we can move on to a real life scenario! You have on the button. You are playing $1/$2 and you ve been there for about an hour. Your opponent raises to $10 in middle position. He has played about 10 hands in the past hour. He raised 6 times and called a bet 4 times. He has only limped once but it was from UTG so you re not sure if he knows too much about position. One of his hands went to showdown, and after betting every street he showed top two pair. In another hand he bet the flop, checked the turn and then bet the river. He showed rivered flush. In the next few assignments we will allow you to choose you own range for this player, but for now we want to all be on the same page so for the sake of this exercise we give him the following range: Axs, AT+, Pairs 66+, KJ, KQ, QJ and JT. Write out the hands included in the range given. for a How many combos of pairs are in this range? How many combos of Ax are in his range? How many combos of non-ace Broadway cards are in his hand? Total combos? 5
It folds around to you and you decide to call on the button. The blinds also fold. You re heads up. The flop comes. Recalculate his pair combos with this new information. Recalculate his Ace hands. How many ways can he have Ax of hearts? Recalculate his non-ace combos. Recalculate the total number of combinations in his range now. How many combos in his range can we beat? What percentage of his range do we beat? 6
Your opponents bets $20 and you decide to call. The turn is the. Recalculate his pair combos with this new information. Recalculate his Ace hands. How many ways can he have Ax of hearts? Recalculate his non-ace combos. Recalculate the total number of combinations in his range now. How many combos in his range can we beat? What percentage of his range do we beat? 7
Your opponent checks and you decide to bet $35. He calls. The river is. Recalculate his pair combos with this new information. Recalculate his Ace hands. How many ways can he have Ax of hearts? Recalculate his non-ace combos. Recalculate the total number of combinations in his range now. How many combos in his range can we beat? What percentage of his range do we beat? 8
