1 1 LED Tester BTS256-LED The BTS256-LED tester is one of the most compact light measurement devices with integrated integrating sphere for high accuracy measurement of luminous flux, spectral and color data of small size assembled and unassembled LEDs in the visible spectrum. It can be used in mobile or in stationary applications. Innovative technology improvements enable measurement uncertainties at same level to that of more complex and expensive lab based instruments. Its competitive price as a stand alone system or combined with optional accessory components make it an ideal low budget solution for LED assembly companies, manufacturing production and quality control, reference standard in the light measurement laboratory, field service and for training purposes. With the accessories supplied the BTS256-LED tester s application field can be extended for measurement of illuminance, luminous intensity, luminous flux of large size lamps, luminous intensity spatial distribution and LED binning by luminous flux and color. The S-BTS256 software fits all your needs in lab or in fabrication. It supports complete control of your BTS256 device and available peripheral equipment like Gigahertz-Optik s Light Power Supplies (LPS), goniometer (GBD) and different kinds of integrating spheres (IS). It contains different routines for data acquisition, several numerical and graphical displays for visualization and different export options (ASCII and Microsoft Excel). For special needs, Gigahertz-Optik GmbH offers software development kits. SDKs are available for National Instruments LabView, Microsoft.NET, C/C++. 2 BTS256-LED with build-in Integrating Sphere for Luminous Flux, Spectrum and Color 2 The BTS256-LED design includes a light weight aluminum housing and a compact size integrating sphere with rugged ODM98 1) type coating. Build-in Integrating Sphere To avoid risk of contamination the sphere input is sealed with a 3D formed window. The light input is a 10mm input diameter conical type adapter placed over the LED to emit all light within the conical adapter. The adapter with it s bayonet type mount is exchangeable with other port sizes from 6mm to 14mm. Measurement of Assembled LEDs To compensate for self-absorption of the test sample an auxiliary lamp is available which is remotely operated in the substitution correction routine of the software supplied. Gigahertz-Optik s state of the art BTS256-P bitechnology light sensor offers a fine photometric response photodiode for accurate wide dynamic range flux detection. Photometric Detector Beside the integral detector a compact low stray light spectrometer is installed. It s 256 pixel CMOS sensor enables spectral distribution measurements with a 5nm bandwidth as recommended for color measurements. Spectral Measurements A remote controlled shutter is provided for on-line offset compensation of the diode array through dark signal measurement with measurement time identical dark measurements. The cone adapter must be placed over the LED in that way that the total flux of the LED is collected into the BTS256_LED for the measurement. The measurement data of the diode array detector is used for spectral flux in W/nm, peak intensity, dominant wavelength, xy and u v color coordinates, color temperature and color rendering index (CRI). Color Measurements The spectral data is also used for on-line correction of the spectral mismatch error of the photometric detector to simulate a better CIE spectral V( ) response. The fast response time of the integral detector can be used in data logger applications. For improved measurements in applications with low frequency modulated light or light with low frequency AC components the BTS256 can be self synchronized to the frequency of the light signal by its fast integral sensor (photodiode). 3 4 BTS256-LED-DA Option for Illuminance, Luminous Intensity, Spectrum and Color In many applications single LED or LED matrix are integrated into luminaires for general lighting. The light output of these devices is typically specified in illuminance as a function of the distance between luminaire and the surface under illumination. Lighting designers and architects involved in display, outdoor, landscaping or interior lighting are usually interested in illuminance levels. Illuminance in lx With the BTS256-LED-DA adapter the BTS256-LED tester can be set-up as an illuminance and luminous color meter to support the complete production process of the luminaire manufacturer. The BTS256-LED- DA adapter with its 20mm diameter diffuse window and bayonet style mount is quickly and simply attached to the BTS256-LED tester and interchangeable with the cone adapter supplied. After selecting the illuminance measurement mode in the software the instrument is ready to act as a lux meter for spot sources. Luminous Intensity in cd Beside illuminance the BTS256-LED tester with BTS256-LED-DA illuminance adapter can be used for the measurement of luminous intensity if the distance between source and light meter is known and if the light source fulfill the requirements of a spot source. In the luminous intensity mode the S-BTS256-LED software enable the user to enter the measurement distance. The luminous intensity is calculated by the illuminance measurement and the square of the distance. Luminous Color Diffuser Windows with Bayonet Mount for simple exchange to Cone Adapter Beside illuminance and luminous intensity all relevant luminous color data is measured and displayed. The BTS256-LED s Bi-technology sensor including photometric photodiode and diode array spectrometer ensure accurate results independent of the light source. Distance Source Illuminance Traceable Calibration 1m 2000lx Calibration is performed by Gigahertz-Optik s calibration laboratory for light measurement quantities against calibration standards traceable to national and international metrology laboratories.
