Reading across this is just a tiny bit more than 7 fluid ounces. Say 7.1 fluid ounces. ii) looking up the right hand side until we find 4 fluid ounces. Reading across this is between 100 and 150 millilitres. The gap between 100 and 150 is about 10 mm and our reading is 3 mm up. Each mm must be about 5 millilitres so 3 mm is 15 millilitres. Our reading is 115 millilitres. b) 1) half way between 40 and 60 mph so this must be 50 mph. ii) we can see that this is a bit more than 20. If you imagine where 30 would be you can see that we are about a third of the way between 20 and where 30 would be. Say 23 or 24 mph Page 6

7 Question 14 Start by drawing a straight line of length 8 cm. Using a protractor or a set square measure out 90⁰. Then draw a line of length 4.5 cm. Finally connect the two ends to make the longest side. Warning. This diagram is unlikely to be the correct size when you view these solutions or print them off. However it is in the correct proportions. Question 15 a) There are 4 white chocolates out of a possible 7 so the probability is. b) There are 3 dark chocolates out of a possible of 7 so the probability is. Question 16 we need to have a common denominator in order to add or subtract fractions. Let the common denominator be 8. So we have = + = Page 7

8 Question 17 a) we simply substitute these values into the equation 15 x 6 = (10 x 6) + (5 x 6) = = 90p b) The total charge of 75p means the total charge of the black and white copying. If there were 25 copies then we can form this equation: 25 x copy rate = 75p working backwards, divide both sides by 25 copy rate = = 3p Question 18 a) 740 x 234 this is very similar to the original equation except that we are now multiplying by 740 instead of 74. So our answer will now be 173,160 (instead of 17,316) b) 74 x 2.34 this is very similar to the original equation except that we are now multiplying by 2.34 instead of 234. We should only do this if they both represent the same number of pieces of data (and are the same size). In 2004 the angle for Silver is about 110⁰ which is very roughly one third of 360⁰.
