1 Round-robin movements for 3 7 teams David Babcock The Bidding Box Pinecrest, Florida February 7, 2013 This note documents six movements, one per page, following this page, in the order described below (each is underlined). ACBL-legal movements These movements have been prepared with two objectives in mind: Everyone is to play the same boards, or as near to that as possible; All matches are to be scored immediately or after a delay of one round at most. All the movements can be set up in ACBLscore with no difficulty. 3 teams: two 12-board matches, American Whist movement; one set of 36 boards required; everyone plays 24 of the 36 boards 4 teams: three 8-board head-to-head matches, round-robin; two sets of 24 boards required 1 ; everyone plays all the boards 5 teams: four 6-board matches, American Whist movement; one set of 30 boards required; everyone plays 24 of the 30 boards 2 6 teams: five 5-board head-to-head matches, round-robin; three sets of 25 boards required; everyone plays all the boards 7 teams: six 4-board matches, American Whist movement; one set of 28 boards required; everyone plays 24 of the 28 boards 2 A much better, though not-quite-legal, movement for 3 teams 1 can be managed with one set if necessary 2 this movement was published by Pete Matthews of the MIT/Draper Lab Bridge Club

3 4-team round robin with head-to-head matches and duplicated boards BOARDS on tables 1, on tables 1, on tables 1,2 TABLE # << ROUND 1> v2 v3 v4 2> v1 v4 v3 3> v4 v1 v2 4> v3 v2 v1 Player instructions Teams and tables are each numbered 1 4; each team starts at the table corresponding to its number. N/S pairs are stationary throughout. E/W pairs: find your destination table for each round using the chart above: start at the round number, go down to find your team number to the right of the v, and then go left to find the table number; if there are boards on your home table, take four of them with you to the destination table; the two tables involved will relay. E/W then return to their home tables to compare scores and report the result to the Director. Players can begin the next round without waiting. Director instructions Set-up actions in ACBLscore are: 2 Team (Swiss, KO, Round Robin) 2 Victory Points 2 Swiss/Round Robin: Manual/auto pairing, match score entry Ask to back up game after each round is finished: No Number of boards per match: 8 Number of matches: 3 Maximum possible wins: 3 Number of tables: 4 Start team number: 1 1 Pair all rounds Two identical board sets, boards 1 24, are required. NOTE: This movement can be run with just one board set, though the director may want to monitor the speed of play. Each round, set out two of the eight boards in that rounds s set on each table and have the players pass each board down one table after they play it. In this case, E/W do not take boards with thenm when they move to start the match.
