4 DIXON PARK & MAYFIELD COMMUNITY Over 80 trees were planted around the playground and streets to increase tree canopy in this minority community. These trees help increase air quality and reduce energy use on air conditioning. OLD MILL PARK Old Mill Park is a public facility home to soccer fields, river-front views, picnic areas and playgrounds.

5 PRINCESS ANNE CORRIDOR Lined with businesses and properties, Princess Anne Street connects a major highway with the city of Fredericksburg s historic downtown. Tree Fredericksburg planted 150 trees along the corridor to help revitalize that area. RR AVE NEAR MAYFIELD Trees were planted to replace a buffer between the street, houses, and train tracks after the original buffer was cut down when a third track was put down.

6 THE RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER HERITAGE TRAIL Trees were planted along the 3.1 mile trail that winds along the Rappahannock River. HURKAMP PARK This park hosts the Saturday morning farmer s market in downtown Fredericksburg. Cox Communications and Marstel-Day, LLC teamed up to plant trees in the park.

7 WASHINGTON AVENUE For over 30 years, plans to restore the canopy along the mall on Washington Avenue have been in the works. In fall 2014 work finally began, starting near the religious freedom monument. Cherry trees, magnolias and black gum trees were planted to give color throughout the seasons. FREDERICKSBURG AREA WAR MEMORIAL PARK In 2009 a monument to our fallen war heroes was erected in the triangle grassy area on George and Liberty Streets. Tree Fredericksburg donated their time and effort to beautify and provide trees for this memorial.

8 FREDERICKSBURG HEALTH DEPARTMENT City employees and other volunteers helped plant trees around the Health Department. DOWNTOWN TRAIN STATION Saplings were planted in the wide, grassy area around the downtown Fredericksburg train station. Once mature, these trees will provide shelter for birds and squirrels.

11 CHINCOTEAGUE Chincoteague NWR is located on Assateague Island. Its 14,000 acres encompass a diversity of habitats, including beach, dunes, shrubs, maritime forest, freshwater areas, and salt marshes. CourtesyUSFWS CourtesyDonald E. Brown GREAT DISMAL SWAMP This refuge is the largest intact remnant of a vast habitat that once covered more than one million acres of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

12 RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER VALLEY As the youngest member of the Eastern Virginia Rivers National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge was established to conserve and protect fish and wildlife resources such as the bald eagle and including threatened and endangered species and wetlands. 13 FISHERMAN ISLAND Fisherman Island NWR, is one of only 17 sites in the United States classified as a Wetland of International Importance. The Refuge is designated as an Important Bird Area and is comprised of 2,000 acres. At 4,325-acres, James River NWR also supports hundreds of native plant and animal species in the forests, wetlands, and grasslands.

14 MASON NECK As the first national wildlife refuge specifically established under the Endangered Species Act for bald eagles, Mason Neck NWR focuses on forest, marsh, and riverine habitat important to the bald eagle. The refuge was established in 1969 and contains 2,277 acres. Courtesy J. Stephen Conn Courtesy JimWilliams Courtesy JimWilliams Courtesyjimbrickett NANESMOND Nansemond NWR became part of the US Fish and Wildlife Service National Wildlife Refuge System in 1973 when the US Navy transferred 207 acres of salt marsh to the Service. An additional 204 acres of upland grassland and forested stream corridors were transferred in 1999.

15 OCCOQUAN BAY Established in 1998, Occoquan Bay NWR is comprised of 640 -acres. It's primary values are the extensive grasslands interspersed with marshes and early successional shrub and forest areas with value to Neotropical migrants and grassland dependent species. Courtesynorfolkdistrict Courtesygrobinette Courtesygrobinette Courtesynorfolkdistrict PLUM TREE ISLAND Plum Tree Island NWR was officially established in 1972 for use as an inviolate sanctuary, or for any other management purpose, for migratory birds. It is an important stopover site to migratory birds as they travel up and down the Atlantic Flyway.

16 PRESQUILE Presquile NWR is an important stopover site to migratory birds as they travel up and down the Atlantic Flyway. This 1,329 acre island refuge provides protected breeding habitat for State-listed threatened and endangered species, as well as many neo-tropical migrating bird species. Courtesybrx0 Courtesy James River Association Courtesy James River Association CourtesyMurrayH77 WALLOPS ISLAND This refuge was created on July 10, 1975 when 373 acres of land were transferred to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The refuge, comprised mainly of salt marsh and woodlands contains habitat for a variety of trust species, including upland- and wetland-dependent migratory birds.

17 A PARTY WITH A PURPOSE: THE 2015 GALA On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, over three hundred guests gathered at the Olde Silk Mill in Fredericksburg, VA to celebrate the third annual Party with a Purpose. This event celebrates the important works of two non-profit organizations who are committed to preserving the great outdoors at the local level: the National Wildlife Refuge Association and Tree Fredericksburg.
