2 Celebrate Bezanson 2017 Welcome to Celebrate Bezanson! Message from the Bezanson Community Groups This year is the celebration of Canada s 150 th Birthday and Bezanson s 103 rd birthday as a community!! To honor this, the Bezanson Community Groups have partnered together for Celebrate Bezanson! Celebrate Bezanson is a celebration of Bezanson s historical past and present, and the 60 th Anniversary of the Schools in the area. It is an action packed weekend complete with a Fair and Horseshow! More details are on discoverbezanson.ca The Bezanson Agricultural Society would like to take this opportunity to invite all community members to participate in our bench show. The last fair was held in 2004 so this is exciting to once again offer this to the community. Our goal is to promote family involvement in our community, so LET S SEE YOU ALL AT THE FAIR!
3 Schedule of Events August 24 Exhibits will be accepted at Bezanson Memorial Hall August 25 Exhibits will be accepted at Bezanson Memorial Hall (No exceptions past the deadline of 6 pm) Judging will take place 12:00 PM-5 PM 12:00 PM-6 PM 6 PM August 26 Pancake Breakfast ($5 per person) Bling Your Bike Parade Fair Bench Show 8:30AM-10:30AM 9AM 9AM-3PM - Farmers Olympics: brought to you by the local 4H Club, join the games! - Facepainting & Concession - The Bouncy Boyz Inflatables: $5 per person & participate all day! Opening Ceremony First Historical Tour 9:30AM 9:45AM - Bus 1: tour of Old Bezanson Townsite & Glen Leslie Church with host Wanda Zenner. Buses ARE NOT wheelchair-equipped. - Bus 2: tour of the Kleskun Hills Museum with hosts Kleskun Hills Museum Society. Buses ARE NOT wheelchair-equipped - Each tour is about 2 ½ hours and the buses leave/return to the Bezanson Memorial Hall. Softball Tournament-Contact Terri at terrihatch@hotmail.com to register your team or to register to be placed on a team. 50% of participants on each team must have attended Bezanson School. 10AM Second Historical Tour-Same as First Historical Tour BBQ- at the Memorial Hall ($5 per person) Family Dance- with Kelly McDermott & NightRyders. 1:45PM 5:30PM-7:30PM 8:30PM-12:30AM
4 BLING YOUR BIKE PARADE Assembly time Judging Parade Commences (Legion Bezanson Memorial Hall) Categories: - 6 & Under Years Years - Over the Hill 8:00 AM 8:30 AM 9:00 AM All bikes should be grouped and lined up in the correct category by 8:30. Contestants should know & tell the parade marshal which category they are in. No motorized bikes are allowed in the parade. Parents may assist their children but must not do the decorating for them. Judging will be based on the amount of effort, originality, presentation, and overall appearance. First, second, and third prizes will be awarded in each category. 5 The Discover Bezanson Photography Contest Entries will be accepted from June 1 to August 15, The contest is broken down into 3 categories, each accepting entries from participants 14 and under as well as 15+. The week of August 20th, submissions will be judged and winners in each category will be announced and displayed at the Community Fair August 26th. Prizes: 1st place: $ cash and featured in the 2018 Community Calendar. One per category, 6 awarded in total. Runner up: Featured in the 2018 Community Calendar. One per category, 6 awarded in total. Image Specifications Photos should be a minimum of 300 dpi and 5-7 MB in size or 4 x 6 for pre-printed entries. Categories: 1. Nature & Landscapes; local to the area. 2. Agriculture; Summarizing farm life, including grain farming, ranching, beekeeping, etc. 3. Community Culture; May include community events, sports and recreation, volunteers in action, etc. The people that build Bezanson. Please give your photo(s) a title that represents what you have captured in your shot and where it was taken. Rules & Regulations All entries must be accompanied with a complete release granting Discover Bezanson, the Bezanson Agricultural Society, and Bezanson Community Groups ownership of submitted photo. All skill levels are welcome to enter. Each participant is eligible to win in only one category. Photos will be judged anonymously. Winning images are ineligible for future contest submissions. All photos must be taken within the Bezanson area - Smoky River, RR42 and TWSP 732 boundaries. Photos do not have to be taken in Late submissions will not be accepted. Photo Submission: Please submit up to one photo for each category, via with the release form to; webmaster@discoverbezanson.ca Or mail to; Bezanson Agricultural Society PO Box 189 Bezanson AB T0H 0G0.
6 General Fair Rules 1) Entry fees and forms - Forms attached to fair book. - Entry fee is $1.00/class for open sections, no charge for juniors. - Juniors may enter in open sections by paying $1.00 entry fee however, adults MAY NOT enter in junior sections. - All entries must be tagged. Tags and extra entry forms are available by phoning or downloading from discoverbezanson.ca and will be available at the door. - All entries must be in by 6:00 pm on Friday, August 25 th. 2) Juniors must put their parent s name on tags. 3) Only one entry per exhibitor in each class. 4) All exhibits must have been raised, produced or made by the exhibitor. See specific rules in each section. 5) The judge will use his/her judgement as to whether first, second or third is awarded. JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL. 6) Exhibits cannot be removed from this fair before 3:00 PM on Saturday, but please remove all exhibits before 4:30 PM on Saturday, August 26 th. Bezanson Agricultural Society assumes no responsibility for exhibits still there after that time. 7) Exhibits are shown at owner s risk. Bezanson Agricultural Society is not in any way liable for accidents, injury, or damage that may occur while in the fair hall, though every precaution will be taken to ensure their safety. 8) The Bezanson Ag Society reserves the right to refuse any entry. Do not skin. A-7 Carrots - 3 roots A-8 Tomatoes - 3 A-9 Pumpkin - 1 A-10 Variety of Herbs (e.g. Parsley, dill and chives) - Tied into bunches A-11 Unusual shaped vegetable A-12 Collection of 3 different vegetables (your choice) A-13 Collection of 3 different fruits (your choice) A-14 Vegetable Art - Novelty display or carving A-15 Cucumber (Long) - Group of 3 A-16 Pickling Cucumber-Group of 3 A-17 Cherry Tomatoes - Group of 3 A-18 Zucchini - 1 A-19 Apples - Group of 3
8 VEGETABLE GUIDELINES Rules: 1) Vegetables must be displayed on disposable plates 2) Tags should state variety Vegetable Preparation: In general, select slightly above medium size, with uniformity in size and colour. Beans: Should be long, straight and uniform as to size and colour. Free from stringiness and should not be washed. Stems attached. Carrots: Medium size, smooth, straight, free of sunburn and side roots. Tops should be removed ½ inch above the crown. Tap roots should be present. Potatoes: Medium size. Brush clean. Beets: Remove top 1 inch above crown, tap roots should be present, wash with care. Cucumbers: Wipe carefully. Stem on. Onions: ½ inch root, ½ inch above ball. Do not skin! FLOWERS -Use suitable container (flowers being judged-not container) and must be grown by exhibitor B-1 Marigold - 4 blooms, any colour B-2 Sunflowers - 3 stems B-3 Sweet Peas - 5 spikes B-4 Pansy - 6 blooms B-5 Begonia- in bloom B-6 Houseplant - any variety B-7 Amateur flower arrangement - fresh flowers B-8 Planter - small to medium size B-9 Collection of garden grown flowers - 3 varieties B-10 Potted Hanging Flower - trailing variety B-11 Potted Hanging Foliage - trailing variety
