2 # Introduction Home appliances technology occupies a relevant position among the top 12 Key Innovative Technologies (1) in the world. The BSH Home Appliances Group is the largest player (2) in Europe and second around the world, with core development and production activities in Spain that contribute very actively to the company. BSH Spain works closely with universities and research centres, having a very close and special relationship with the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR), the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) and the University of Cantabria (UNICAN), in diverse fields of research (3). These universities and BSH have decided to intensify their cooperation in teaching, providing Science and Engineering graduates the chance to follow a specific master s programme designed with an enriched academic and entrepreneurial vision. 4 #About this master s This master s is jointly organised by the School of Engineering and Architecture (UNIZAR) and the School of Industrial Engineering and Telecommunications (UPNA) within the Campus Iberus and the University of Cantabria (UNICAN) partnership framework and is promoted by BSH Electrodomésticos España. Students graduate from the University of Zaragoza with a Master s in Home Technology Engineering, with eight possible areas of specialisation. This qualification is intended to cover the demand for international professionals trained in the new and constantly changing technologies involved in developing and manufacturing highperformance consumer durables for current and future markets. 4

5 The aims of the programme are to: Provide you with a solid knowledge of current and cutting edge technologies needed for a career in the research, development and production of innovative and competitive consumer durables. It is open to engineering and science graduates from diverse backgrounds whose career prospects are focused on international companies that develop and/or produce innovative technologybased consumer durables. Tailored professional learning process The high teacher/student ratio enables you to benefit from personalized mentoring, tailored education and work in small groups to facilitate the learning process so you can master the content while maintaining an interdisciplinary focus. You will attend lectures delivered by faculty members from different universities as well as industry professionals. Gaining real experience with your master s degree Following the first seven months of theoretical classes, this master s includes 3 months of mandatory internship, at a BSH site in Spain, tailored to your specialization. This placement, overseen by an experienced BSH professional enables you to work on your master s thesis and gain real-world work experience that can be extended up to a further 6 months. 10

This allows you to receive a total of 4,500 during the 9 month placement. This master s comprises two learning modules: one general and one specialised The general module provides an overview of the consumer durables market and how it applies to home appliances, covering: connectivity, standardization and regulations, innovation management and industrial property, amongst others. The specialised module is split into a theoretical component, an internship and a master s thesis. All of these are necessary to pass the degree. 13 Further information Delivery method: Face-to face at scheduled times. The class may meet in-person at a particular location or it may meet at distance using videoconferencing, depending on the location of the students/instructors, except for some laboratory activities where physical attendance is mandatory. Students are required to attend a minimum of 85 percent of class hours. Internship placement: at the assigned BSH site. Teaching and learning: includes a mixture of lectures, problem solving classes, computer workshops, discussions, group projects, labs, etc. Course materials will be supported by Moodle. Assessment: can include examinations, problem solving exercises, laboratory reports, coursework assignments, individual and group projects, etc. The course coordinator will define the assessment method. During the internship, your supervisor will evaluate your work performance. Students will have to defend their master s thesis in a public lecture, for evaluation by a committee.
