Visual Trends 2018 Edition 1
Whether you re a creative professional, an aesthetically minded consumer, or an aspiring artist we re all influenced by the world around us. Keeping up with trends not only keeps you relevant, but also opens the door to participate in a conversation bigger than ourselves. Brenda Milis, principal, Creative Services and Visual Trends for Adobe Stock, explains For artists and brands alike, trends are a critical tool. They re a look at where we are as a culture, and as a world, so you can really understand what makes an image resonate. View the trends that will move us in Visual Trends Volume 2 2
VISUAL TREND Silence and solitude. In a world of overwhelming and constant digital input, the demand for renewing, peaceful visuals will be higher than ever. 3
Taking time to breathe amid the buzz. There s no doubt we live in a busy and distracting world. It may seem like a paradox, but standing out in the noise may include a return to peace and quiet. More and more artists are drawing from contemplative solitude for their creative inspiration. With warm-toned illustrations and remote landscape photography, this year will offer renewal and reflection through visual art Visual Trends Volume 2 4
VISUAL TREND The fluid self. As identity shifts from static labels to new definitions of self, artists and brands alike are making an effort to fill the gaps in representing this transformation. 5
Stretching the spectrum of identity. While individuality has always been a motif in art, today s artists are using unique visuals as a method of soul-searching and expression more than ever before. In order to better understand their audience, brands and artists must adapt to emerging definitions of self. This yields eye-opening images that have powerful emotional impact, especially as artists celebrate the vast range of identities through more equal artistic representation. 6
VISUAL TREND Multilocalism. Authentic experiences and diverse visuals are taking over the landscape of visual art crossing political lines and creating global citizens. 7
Turning foreign into familiar. Travel and technology are making the world a smaller place. Artists and brands are capitalizing on this by embracing a mosaic of cultural experiences. They re blurring the line between our routines and our adventures, motivating people to travel the world and become more familiar with their global community. It s more than a creative trend it s a social movement that brings diversity to the forefront to help consumers deepen their global consciousness Visual Trends Volume 2 8
VISUAL TREND Creative reality. At the intersection of reality and creativity comes a new wave of visual art full of hyper-sensorial experiences and jaw-dropping intensity. 9
Exploring the powers of imagination. Eccentric textures. Vibrant colors. Hallucinatory experiences. By facing reality with a creative lens, artists are exploring what it means to be alive in an unsettled world. Visual art is becoming more and more of a utopic escape from the uncertain reality artists often face. By adding a psychedelic twist to the natural world, artists are creating fantastic worlds that illustrate the power of human imagination. 10
VISUAL TREND History and memory. Artists experiment using old-world techniques with new-world technology to create modern visual art that adds to a greater cultural conversation. 11
Preserving the past to build the future. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, We are not makers of history. We are made by history. A growing number of artists and brands are drawing inspiration from classic works to preserve, challenge, and celebrate the great art of the past. Modern-day technology is allowing artists to add a new-age spin on classical art motivating audiences to actively reflect on the past and honor their creative roots Visual Trends Volume 2 12
VISUAL TREND Touch and tactility. With the increasing reliance on screens and devices, brands and artists seek a balance between what we can see and what we can feel. 13
Returning to the sensory in a screen-driven world. As fast as the world goes virtual, artists are chasing a need for human connection. This desire for actual touch is being expressed more and more in visual art. From capturing textures to capturing a moment, brands are using images that invite consumers to create meaningful connections. 14
Push your creativity forward with today s trends. Adobe empowers creative professionals like you with cutting-edge tools to create breakthrough work and impact modern visual trends. Adobe Stock offers millions of images, graphics, videos, templates, and 3D assets, plus Premium and Editorial collections from our most inspired artists. It s integrated with Adobe Creative Cloud so designers can search for the assets they need inside the apps they use every day. Adobe Stock. Scaled for enterprise. Adobe Stock for enterprise gives creative teams the tools they need to work fast, stay organized, and collaborate across their entire organization.
