4 Maritime Link The Maritime Link includes the construction and operation of a new 500 megawatt (MW) transmission system, that will connect the Islands of Newfoundland and Cape Breton, NS. The Project can be divided into three distinct areas: Western Newfoundland: New transmission line:265 km of which only 30km requires new right of way, a converter station at Bottom Brook and landfall transition compound near Cape Ray Cabot Strait: Two subsea cables spanning approximately 180 km between Point Aconi, Nova Scotia and Cape Ray, Newfoundland Cape Breton: New transmission line; 45 km all adjacent to existing lines, a converter station at Woodbine and a landfall transition compound near Point Aconi

5 Benefits of the Project Promotes regional cooperation amongst the Atlantic provinces Addresses hard caps on Green House Gas (GHG) by reducing emissions in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador Consistent with proposed federal GHG framework for the electricity sector Provides economic benefits, direct and indirect Connects the Island of Newfoundland to the North American electricity grid for the very first time Provides a new transmission route to export its abundance of electricity Helps Nova Scotia achieve its provincial renewable energy goals 40% renewables requirement by 2020 Promotes long-term price stability for electricity in the region Provides new capacity in hydro electricity needed to balance the addition of other renewables (e.g. wind and future tidal)

9 Maritime Link Project Components Subsea cables; Shore based grounding facilities; Grounding lines Two converter stations and adjoining substations; Transmission corridors; and Two transition compounds. 9

10 Maritime Link Project activities associated with construction of the Maritime Link include: geotechnical work; access and clearing; distribution of materials; construction of high voltage ac/dc converter stations; installation of transmission infrastructure; installation of grounding systems; laying of the subsea cable. 10

This will Include: Fuel Safety wear & supplies Accommodations (short and long term) Meals etc. Approximately 2,700 person years of work projected Perspective: 1,000 person years of work could require approximately: 1,000 hardhats 1,000 pairs of safety glasses 1,000 pairs of work boots 12,000 pairs of gloves 600,000 meals

This plan will be integral to all procurement and labour contracts. All contractors and suppliers will be required to adhere to and report on these requirements.
