25 2. Challenges Offshore 25
26 Challenges Offshore Wind - unexplored subsoil compared to onshore - extreme waves, storms and tides, ice - no validated methods for design of soil-structure interactions (accumulation of anelastic deformations) - difficult and non experienced installation processes at sea (jack-up- structures, installation barges, heavy loads,.) - grid connection and underwater cable installation - environment impact, eg e.g. strong hydroaccustic emissions due to pile driving - fatigue of structure (wings, tower, nacelle, foundations, ) -maintenance is difficult due to weather conditions i (crew and material transfer) - health and safety concepts are not proven - insurance and financial concepts - High risks and still many exceptional, exciting challenges for engineers - academics and practitioners 26
