1 TME s Level 1 trainer training will give you the tools you need to market and deliver TME s evidence-informed mindfulness training for the workplace. WHO IS IT FOR? People with an established mindfulness practice, who wish to teach mindfulness skills to employees to help them manage the mind and flourish in the workplace. 2 ABOUT TME LEVEL 1 TRAINER TRAINING TME now offers Level 1 and Level 2 mindfulness trainer training, to enable trainers to deliver TME workshops and programmes for the workplace. TME applies the UK Network for Mindfulness-based Teacher Training Organisations Good Practice Guidelines to inform its approach to training. However, as these Guidelines apply to teaching mindfulness in a therapeutic context the TME pathway deviates from them where corporate training dictates the need for a different approach. The TME training is designed to deliver mindfulness training to manage everyday stress and improve resilience and performance at work for corporate clients and adults of working age in public classes. It is not designed as training to deliver programmes for therapeutic purposes or for school pupils. THE EFFICACY OF TME TRAINING While there has been an explosion of interest in the therapeutic application of mindfulness, there are very few studies on mindfulness in the workplace. TME has built a significant body of evidence which shows that the benefits of TME training are comparable to the benefits of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). However, much work is still to be done in this field. Is there a point when your buttons get pressed? With mindfulness you can see things coming and say what you need to say before things get out of hand. This doesn t just change the way you see things. With more confidence people relate to you differently. Mindfulness helps you keep a cool head and influence the behaviour of others around you. PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS The preliminary requirements are to have: completed the programme in, Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World on a self-study basis; a regular mindfulness practice and a commitment to maintaining it; a professional background where you can deliver mindfulness training. 3 TME TRAINER TRAINING LEVEL 1 THE RECOMMENDED PRE- COURSE READING LIST i) Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression (2 nd ed.), Segal, Williams, Teasdale, 2002 ii) Full Catastrophe Living, Jon Kabat-Zinn, 2001 iii) Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World, Williams, Penman, 2011 The Level 1 Intensive Week Business is based on good relationships and good relationships are based on emotional intelligence. However hard you try, if you don t mean what you say, you won t come across authentically and people can tell. With mindfulness, you can better understand your own emotions; make better relationships within your business and with your clients 1. OBJECTIVE: The Study Week will equip trainees with the essential skills and confidence needed to market and deliver TME workplace training. On completing the Study Week trainees will be given electronic copies of the TME training material for their personal use. The Study Week will be based around three key elements: 1. Deepening personal meditation practice; 2. Key underpinning theory; 3. Practical sessions, opportunities to practice and get feedback. 2. MEDITATION PRACTICE There are mandatory silent periods set aside for meditation each day. Some meal times will be silent. Periods of unstructured time are scheduled for walking, running, or meditation, as well as providing the opportunity to network, build friendships and discuss practice with their peers. Trainees are asked to restrict the use of phones and laptops for essential use, in order to support mindfulness practice during the week. Page 3

THEORY Meditation practice Understanding the significance of historical developments Understanding the TME approach Cognitive perspectives Adapting mindfulness training to the workplace Selling mindfulness training to corporate clients Guiding mindfulness exercises (adapting therapeutic forms of guided mindfulness meditations to fit the corporate context) Leading group feedback (adapting processes employed in therapy to corporate setting) Working with groups to promote an attitudinal foundation (applying learning and development informed practice suited to the corporate context) Further reading and CPD Mindfulness makes it possible to think outside the box. So often we get trapped by relying on obsolete solutions. Most of us recognise we need to be creative and flexible in new situations. Just a ten-minute mindfulness exercise has been scientifically proven to make the difference, enabling us to think outside the box. 4. TEACH-BACK TRAINING The Study Week is built around practice in teach-back training. Here, trainees will gain the opportunity to practice leading formal mindfulness exercises and mindful feedback in small groups, in an environment which supports personal mindfulness practice. Peer led practice also gives the opportunity to give and receive feedback from peers, which provides the foundation for continuing professional development as a TME trainer. Page 4

6 NEXT STEPS After successful completion of the Level 1 trainer training, trainees will be provided with a full set of TME training materials and will be listed on the TME website as Level 1 trainers. Level 1 trainers will be expected to teach, or co-teach, two full TME six week programmes and attend Level 2 teacher training in order to gain fully trained teacher status. TME trainee trainers will need to organise practice training programmes for themselves or identify clients where they can practice delivering TME programmes following the Level 1 training week. As the TME client base grows, TME may be able to arrange programmes where TME trainee trainers coteach TME programmes. In order to be accepted onto Level 2 trainer training, trainees will need to submit evidence of the courses they have delivered. This may include video footage, testimonials from participants and or co-trainers, or co-training with a fully trained TME trainer. Level 2 training will consist of a three day programme which allows you to demonstrate your competence to teach TME courses by showcasing how you teach one or more full sessions from a six week course in front of peers. ONGOING CPD We are distracted 47% of the time. As well as having a psychological cost this is time lost to business. Mindfulness training develops our awareness of distraction and how this has a negative impact. A small amount of time spent on mindfulness exercises each day increases employee resilience and engagement as well as cutting time lost to distraction. TME trained trainers are expected to continue to develop their practice by attending CPD events. This will include annual weekends provided by TME, continuing attendance at peer-led groups, and attendance at trainings provided by third parties, all of which will be listed on the TME website. 7 ACCREDITATION TME Level 1 Trainers will be listed on the TME website. Upon completion of Level 2 trainer training, trainees will be listed as Level 2 trainers on the TME website. Listing is dependent on maintaining CPD requirements. MEET THE TEAM MARINA GRAZIER has over 20 years experience in the business consulting and IT sectors working for organisations such as IBM, EDS/HP and KPMG Consulting. Marina retrained as a psychologist to provide a platform to teach Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and trained, and teaches, at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre (OMC). She joined the OMC Development Board in 2010 to support the Mindfulness in the Workplace project before co-founding TME. JULIET ADAMS combines over 20 years experience working in HR, Training Design, Organisational Development and Change roles with an in-depth knowledge of mindfulness. Her work developing Mindfulnet.org has bought her into contact with mindfulness thought leaders from all over the world, who have shaped and influenced her work. Juliet organised the 2012 and 2014 Mindfulness at work international conference. She is co-author of Mindfulness at work for dummies and is currently writing a book on mindful leadership. Recent clients include the Bank of England, Allianz, Lloyds, RMBI, Queens College Cambridge, Churchill College Cambridge, CIPD, Mind, and Local Authorities. The Venue The Study Week will take place in the secluded environment of Symondsdown House, ( a stunning Georgian House situated in 7 acres of an area of outstanding natural beauty, overlooking the Axe Valley on the Devon/Dorset border near Lyme Regis.
