1 Access Dear Reader, Welcome to the edition of Access for Women in Energy (AccessWIE) Newsletter. This new edition includes recent press articles related to women and their contribution to the energy sector worldwide. The New Year begins with a sense of optimism across the globe. From Benin to New Orleans, these articles highlight the increasing involvement of women in the energy sector at all levels whether on renewable solutions; or in positions of authority within energy companies internationally. Underlying constraints, however, remain as clearly reflected in the greater global push, in forums, projects and protests alike, for the need to address gender disparity in the sector. In terms of activities, AccessWIE held an evening discussion on the investment climate in Iran with a special focus on the oil and gas industry on Feb 6 in London. The comprehensive debate addressed the political, economic, legal and social conditions in Iran. Dr Carole Nakhle, Director of Crystol Energy and AccessWIE chaired the debate and speakers included Lord Lamont of Lerwick, Chairman of the British Iranian Chamber of Commerce; Alia Moubayed, Director of Geo-economics and Strategy, IISS; George Booth and Ava Zadkhorvash from Pinsent Masons, in addition to remarks made by Lord Howell, Chairman of the Windsor Energy Group and co-chairman of AccessWIE.
