7 GESI S WORK IS PIONEERING NEW UNDERSTANDING OF STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING HUMAN PROGRESS AND RIGHTS AROUND THE WORLD. IN DOING SO WE ARE HELPING MEMBERS TO BUILD TRUST AND IMPROVE THEIR PERFORMANCE. PROGRAMS INCLUDE: The Digital Trust and Responsibility Initiative. The ICT industry is changing the world at the speed of light. It is transforming everyday lives, disrupting entire industries, and reorganizing ways of life and governance. The world-changing potential of ICT will be realized only if our industry remains trusted and stakeholders have confidence that we can handle our impact on data security, privacy, ways of life, and ecosystems responsibly. This pilot initiative will define the essential policies, practices, and commitments that companies must adopt to ensure the ICT industry remains a trusted partner as stakeholder concerns over data security, privacy, and automation grow. The Human Rights Good Practice Guide Series. This series provides specific guidance to Members on how to design and implement processes and policies related to the most pressing human rights challenges the industry is facing. #EnablingRights A profound revolution is underway to utilize ICT to support, protect, and remedy human rights abuses. While our solutions are becoming increasingly essential for human rights defenders, the ICT industry is not sufficiently engaged. This project is researching and assessing the potential for digital solutions to protect human rights while opening new commercial opportunities for the industry. It identifies opportunities to build partnerships that move the conversation beyond our industry s compliance to our ability to transform the ways human rights are protected. The Human Rights Salient Issue Matrix. The Matrix defines for Members the salient issues that require attention particularly for those operating in developing countries. Responsible Minerals Initiative. Founded by Members of GeSI and the Responsible Business Alliance, the Responsible Minerals Initiative has grown into one of the most utilized and respected resources for companies from a range of industries addressing responsible mineral sourcing issues in their supply chains. Our flagship Responsible Minerals Assurance Process offers companies and their suppliers an independent, thirdparty audit that determines which smelters and refiners can be validated as responsibly sourced, in line with current global standards. We also offer our Conflict Minerals Reporting Template, which helps companies disclose and communicate about smelters in their supply chains, and we produce white papers and guidance documents on responsible mineral sourcing and reporting on a regular basis.

9 GESI IS HELPING ITS MEMBERS FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE THROUGH A SUITE OF INNOVATIVE TOOLS AND SERVICES INCLUDING: The #SMARTer2030 Research Series and Online Platform. SMARTer2030 defines how greater adoption of ICT can accelerate economic growth while reducing GHG emissions. A companion online platform provides resources that Members and information global decision-makers can use to apply ICT solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. SMARTer2030 s landmark research has changed Members Strategies to develop new products and services using ICT to enable carbon reduction. It has changed the minds of global decision-makers and climate activists to engage with the ICT industry as an essential partner in addressing climate change. The ICT Sector Guidance. Built on the GHG Protocol Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard, the Guidance provides a sector supplement and is the result of an extensive collaborative effort which included more than 700 stakeholder comments. The Guidance provides a much-needed and consistent way for ICT companies worldwide to measure the carbon impacts of their products and services. The methodologies provided in the document are also applicable to product-related categories of the GHG Protocol Scope 3 Standard. The SMARTer2030 Action Coalition. The Coalition will convene GeSI Members, their B2B customers, governments, and civil society leaders to pilot large-scale projects demonstrating how the digital revolution can reduce carbon emissions while accelerating economic growth. The Coalition will provide a platform for GeSI and its partner organizations to encourage policy development at national and international levels and promote Member value in organisations such as the UNFCCC and Climate Conferences, UN Summits, CTCN, and the Green Climate Fund. The Mobile Carbon Impact. The report assesses the carbon emissions reduction specifically enabled by mobile communications, providing an in-detail look at this technology and the several opportunities for carbon reduction that it is already unleashing. The report shows that there is a real business case for accelerating the uptake of ICT solutions in several areas, and discusses the fundamental role that ICT can have in making cities smart(er), as well as in the physical to digital transition. Science-based Targets for ICT. GeSI will develop methods, indicators, and tools for Members to employ a common and agreed set of indicators to define science-based targets for the reduction of carbon emissions. ICT Assessment Methodology to evaluate the carbon-reducing impacts of ICT. This report establishes a consistent methodology and roadmap for assessing ICT s low-carbon enablement capacity. Along with the report a tool was developed, the ICT Assessment Methodology, to provide immediate guidance on the process of identifying and quantifying the carbon-reducing effects of implementing an ICT solution. With its focus on simplifying assessment via a generallyapplicable approach, diverse members of the ICT industry, businesses, and policymakers should find this methodology a practical guide for approaching the assessment process.

In addiction, the SDGs will create a USD $2.1 trillion market opportunity for the ICT industry, a 60% increase compared to the current ICT sector revenues. Decouple economic growth from carbon emissions, reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) by 20% from 2015 levels by 2030; Connect 2.5 billion people to ICT networks. Reduce poverty by one-third. Increase access to education for 450 million people. GESI HELPS ITS MEMBERS WORK WITH GOVERNMENTS, CUSTOMERS, AND SUPPLIERS TO ACCELERATE THE ADOPTION OF IMPACTFUL SOLUTIONS THROUGH THE FOLLOWING INITIATIVES: #SystemTransformation Research and Online Platform. The UN has set 17 Sustainable Development Goals for With digital technology, they are all within reach. The #SystemTransformation landmark research provides eyeopening insights about the huge disruptive potential of digital solutions. A companion online platform provides a library of case studies with practical examples of ICT-enabled sustainable development progress. KPIs for the SDGs. ICT underpins the ability of the world to achieve the SDGs. The UN has set specific targets for the adoption of broadband internet access and related ICT indicators that will drive the achievement of the 17 Global Goals. GeSI will define KPIs that will help Members identify how they are advancing progress to meet the SDGs, and to track and support efforts by the UN and other key stakeholders to see progress in leveraging ICT to achieve the Goals. EcoChain. An innovative, software-based solution to assess the environmental impact of a company s operations going beyond traditional LCAs. The Sustainability Assessment Framework. Is a comprehensive assessment framework for the evaluation of ICT products and services in terms of environmental, human rights, and utility aspects, as well as benefits. The assessment results support companies in reviewing product performance, managing portfolios, and making policy decisions. Sustainable Development Platform. The +Better World GeSI Program is supported by the Sustainable Development Platform (SDP). This support system was built around the SDGs and modern slavery reporting requirements to assist companies in the following ways: as a learning tool to help capture and analyze effective practices; and as an information gathering and sharing tool to capture how participating companies are making a difference in areas such as carbon reduction, cost reduction, productivity increase, quality defect reduction, and implementation of circular economy principles. All results are externally verified and support stakeholder engagement and sustainability reporting and add value to vital business objectives such as supply chain cost reduction and product innovation. The Electronic Tool for Accountable Supply Chains. E-TASC is the ICT industry standard solution for improving the environmental and social practices within the supply chain. E-TASC evaluates and monitors supplier sustainability performance on four themes: Environment, Labor/Human Rights, Fair Business Practices, and Sustainable Procurement. A scorecard supports the GeSI Member companies by helping them assess their own corporate social responsibility risk or that of their suppliers and to identify key areas of improvement. Members have free access to the E-TASC platform which provides a user-friendly, datarich platform for companies and their suppliers to easily share sustainability performance assessments. We recognise the fundamental importance of collaborative approaches to the social and environmental challenges of today. Our programmes and platforms benefit from the expertise of our several partners; and in line with the overall GeSI strategy in promoting the role of ICT for the SDGs, we play an active role in fostering the conversation on the future developments of science and technology for innovation as partners of the G-STIC initiative.
