3 In 2017, 775 projects were encountered. Of these projects, 275 were newly launched, another 362 were completed and only one was terminated prematurely. TA CR administered 12 programmes in total to support research and development. The share of aided projects reached 43 %. During the year, 8 new public tenders were announced, namely: 775 projects encountered 275 newly launched 2nd GAMMA programme public tender (PP2 focused on Seal of Excellence - SME Instrument) 4th and 5th DELTA programme public tender 3rd EPSILON programme public tender 1st ZETA programme public tender 1st ETA programme public tender 365 completed 1st THETA programme public tender 1 terminated prematurely

4 TA CR ON THE HORIZON The Agency has joined the Horizon 2020 European Research and Innovation Support Schemes and has become a partner of five projects (GEECCO, NEW HoRRIzon, GENDER-NET Plus, M-ERA.NET 2 and CHRIST-ERA III). These are projects that announce joint calls to promote cooperation in international research and development.

5 PROGRAMME FEE TA CR SPENDING From the perspective of formally completed projects, the year 2017 was particularly important for the BETA programme, which saw 192 Final External Examinations (FEE). A total of 122 FEEs also took place in the ALPHA programme. In the OMEGA programme, 1 FEE took place in the 3rd public tender project and 4 FEEs were held The total expenditure for aided projects in 2017 reached CZK 4,361 million. The highest spending was in the Competence Centre and Epsilon programmes (each of the programmes exceeded CZK 900 million). The programmes with the lowest volume of aid granted for 2017 were BETA2 and ZETA (CZK 8.3 and 13.5 million, respectively).. for projects under the EPSILON programme.

6 ZETA THETA In 2017, the ZETA programme was launched to support youth in research and their involvement in applied research projects. A total of 249 project proposals were submitted in the first tender and 120 were approved for aid by the Board of the TA CR.. In the new THETA programme, the first public tender was announced last year. This programme focuses on new technologies and key trends in the energy industry. Public tenders will be announced annually up until the year 2023 and the state aid of CZK 4 billion has been approved for the entire period.

7 The Agency has announced the first public tender for the ETA programme following the OMEGA programme. The ETA programme supports the involvement of social sciences and humanities in applied research projects, experimental development and innovation. A total of 306 project proposals were submitted under the programme, of which 94 received aid. The total expenditure for this programme will be CZK 2,400 million. In their other ventures, TA CR focused on topics including equal opportunity and the principles of responsible research.

10 TAFTIE As an active member of TAFTIE (the European Network of Innovation Agencies), TA CR strengthened its position to become the presiding agency for TA CR prepared the agenda and participated in all TAFTIE Executive Working Group meetings. The Agency also conducted the TAFTIE board meetings and prepared the programme of expert meetings including the TAFTIE Annual Conference and the Policy Forum. The Agency maintained its position as an observer of the V4-Korea Knowledge Sharing Programme in

11 BILATERAL COOPERATION In the sphere of international bilateral cooperation, TA CR established cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany and used this to open a joint call for projects in Industry 4.0 in the same year. In addition, TA CR concluded agreements with the Israeli National Technological Innovation Authority (Joint Declaration of Intent in the Field of Technological Innovation) and the Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Science of the Government of Ontario (MoU on Information Exchange). Both of these agreements were aimed at opening joint bilateral public tenders to be covered by the DELTA programme on the Czech side. Under the plan for 2017, negotiations were in place to conclude a formal document in cooperation with the Brazilian Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP), the Kazakh National Agency for Technology Development (NATD) and Georgia s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA). 11

13 FUTURE CUTS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE CUTTING TOOLS FROM THE NEW GENERATION WITH THE USE OF INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES AND PROGRESSIVE MATERIALS VHAM FINAL s.r.o. University of West Bohemia, Pilsen The aim of this project was to develop, manufacture and test new tools for reaming highly precise holes with a definable integrity of the machined surface. The potential technical and economic results (performance/cost ratio) of these new tools will be at least 50 % higher than current tools. The tools will be fitted with powerful cutting materials including cermets as well as the cemented carbides CBN and PKD. The design comes from industry-protected structures for reinforcement tools. 13

14 LIFESAVER GROWING TUMOROUS ENDOPROSTHESIS OF THE FEMORAL BONE BEZNOSKA, s.r.o. The main goal of this project was to create a fully functional prototype of a growing femoral bone endoprosthesis with a protected design, including its testing and the eventual launch of its clinical use. Of the total number of patients who undergo surgery due to bone cancer in limbs, 30 % are recommended for amputation and 70 % are recommended for surgery to save the limb. In surgery, a functional limb can be maintained by using bone tissue or a type of individual tumorous endoprosthesis to replace the bone defect (after the removal of the bone tumor). 14

15 SUPERTEX TERMOTEX - A NEW GENERATION OF HIGHLY FUNCTIONAL SMART TEXTILES FOR THERMAL REGULATION AND THERMAL INSULATION USED IN DEMANDING AND SPECIFIC CLIMATIC CONDITIONS THAT PROVIDE BETTER HUMAN PROTECTION VÚB a.s. Technical University of Liberec. The aim of this solution was the applied research and development of a new generation of highly functional barriers for thermal regulation and thermal insulation. These smart textiles are based on new sophisticated types of chemical fibres and yarns. 15

16 COLORCLOCK RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED MICRO-LAYER ELEMENTS FOR THE DIRECT MONITORING OF TIME VARIABLES USING THE PRECISE CALIBRATION OF COLOUR CHANGES INVOS, spol. s r.o. Brno University of Technology Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the Czech Academy of Sciences Centre for Organic Chemistry, Charles University The primary objective of this project was to design and develop special sensors for monitoring independent variables based on visually detectable colour changes. The sensors were compiled on the basis of photochemical and photocatalytic principles with complementary components. 16
