4 Introduction The mission of the presentation is to demonstrate the results of cognitive assessment of the situation in SMEs using the EFQM excellence model and also findings regarding the factors into which Slovak SME should intervene. The goal of the study was to find the main factors affecting the success of SMEs, prognosing trends of development of the excellence, and propose the interventions to the most important factors. The questionnaire method was used at the survey, supplemented by the statements of the respondents, also the method of simulation of the European Quality Award, and Gompertz function for excellence prognosing. 5 Quality renaissance The quality is the main distinctive mark not only among the products and services, but also among people, organizations, nations and states. Each human perceives, understands and evaluates the quality in his/her own way, always a little bit otherwise. With regard to the globalization, culture and value diversity of the nations as well as financial crisis, it is necessary to increase the quality level of work, production and life and to revive its traditional values.
