2 about us A member-organisation of Confindustria (the Italian federation of industry), Assobiomedica represents entities that supply medical devices to Italy s public and private healthcare facilities. The federation covers thousands of products, including chemical reagents and equipment for blood and tissue sample analysis; heart valves and open heart surgery equipment; implantable medical devices, such as pacemakers, hearing prostheses, defibrillators, stents and orthopaedic endoprostheses; electromedical equipment, such as CAT, NMR and PET machines; equipment for operating theatres and intensive care units, and substance-based medical devices (borderline).

3 mission Representing the vast majority of companies in its sector, Assobiomedica is an authoritative interface for public and private healthcare institutions nationwide. It promotes the cultural, social and economic value of innovation, research and technological development, and contributes to the enhancement of the Italian health system as a whole. Since its foundation, Assobiomedica has played a pivotal role in improving life expectancy and quality of life. Medical devices, after all, are constantly evolving and make a crucial contribution to human health by providing state-of-the-art solutions for prevention, cure and rehabilitation; which is just one of the reasons why medical devices should be considered a strategic asset for the entire nation. why join? It means that the needs and interests of individual companies can be more readily addressed, because they are shared by other members and are more effectively represented in external relations. Assobiomedica companies are an integral part of Italy s healthcare supply chain, which accounts for over 11% of GDP, making it the fourth-ranking of the twelve largest goods and services industries.

The Centre involves member companies in workshops on subjects of specific interest, and its output is aimed at nurturing technological innovation, enhancing medical device quality and promoting a systematic approach, with a view to reaping maximum economic and social benefit from the industry s potential. That s why the innovation area was set up, with the goal of facilitating and enhancing technological transfer within the sector, and encouraging collaboration between established enterprises and start-ups or research centres.

5 Legal Affairs The Legal Affairs area supports and advises member companies on regulatory updates, public tenders, administrative responsibility, privacy and competition laws, CME and ethics. It organises federation events on topics of interest and plays a role in the organisation of training sessions. It develops and coordinates research in specific areas of interest, performs the function of federation secretary during board meetings, and chairs the internal administrative organisation. Regulatory Affairs and HTA The Regulatory Affairs and HTA area provides member companies with advice and support regarding correct application of the legislative and regulatory framework on which the process of definition and transposition at national and international level is based. It also promotes the correct approach to assessing technologyand innovation (HTA) in the sector. Institutional Relations The Institutional Relations area establishes and maintains relations with members of Government, Parliament, political parties and regional bodies. Over the years it has consolidated its cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the heads of regional health organisations. It represents the federation on all expert panels tasked with consulting on key issues in the sector, including at European level, thanks to its partnerships with various European industry associations, such as Eucomed and Edma. Communication and Press Office Constantly engaged in disseminating the ideas, proposals and activities of Assobiomedica, the Communication and Press Office organises events and conventions aimed at raising the profile of the medtech sector and sensitising public opinion to the importance of technology in healthcare. It maintains constant relations with national and local media, and regularly launches press campaigns on key issues affecting the industry. It publishes the fortnightly news bulletin that keeps all members informed of federation activities, as well as two quarterly publications that are distributed to central and regional institutions, universities, research centres,

6 services Assobiomedica: Defends the legitimate interests of the industry before international, state and regional institutions. Promotes the sector s core values, with particular emphasis on technology as an essential factor in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, and on innovation as a driver of growth. Sensitises public opinion to the importance of medical devices, through a vast range of communication activities, seminars, conventions and events. Organises periodic training and updating seminars on relevant subjects. Provides support and services relating to legislation affecting the industry, technical standards, regulatory requirements and the numerous products and services provided by Confindustria. Offers members access to the Assobiomedica intranet. Service Company ASBM srl, a service company and subsidiary of Assobiomedica, adopts an independent entrepreneurial approach to supporting the federation and its members through a broad range of initiatives, such as training on subjects of specific interest, cooperation with scientific societies in relation to conference attendance, and a range of general support services.
