1 TRANSAS AIS NETWORK VIEWER
2 TRANSAS AIS NETWORK VIEWER (TRAN VIEWER) The Transas AIS Network (TrAN) Viewer software is intended for the reception, display, recording and analysis of data from different AIS sources. It is designed for use in small ports, by rescue services and AIS Network users. The System can observe several thousand objects in the real time mode by using a standard computer. TrAN Viewer complies with all IMO and IEC recommendations. TrAN Viewer enables real-time monitoring, as well as the display and analysis of the archive AIS data (including text telegrams) on the following objects: Vessel targets (AIS Class A and Class B) AIS Base Station AIS AtoNs SAR aircraft TrAN Viewer data can be obtained from the following sources: AIS receiver AIS Network AIS transponder Transas AIS Network Database Server AIS Base Station photo by Axel Landvogt TrAN Viewer has four operating modes monitoring mode and three modes for analysing archive data: data analysis, traffic analysis and playback. The monitoring mode allows real time object monitoring. Using archive data requires availability of the local database recording option or the Transas AIS Network Database Server component. In traffic analysis mode and playback mode, the ship motion data and AIS text telegrams for a certain time interval are selected from the AIS database according to the set criteria. The obtained data is displayed on top of the electronic charts in the following way: Data and traffic analysis mode all the obtained data is displayed simultaneously Playback mode the obtained data is played back in real time or on the fast time scale with the set acceleration ratio (up to 1000). BASIC FUNCTIONALITY Electronic Chart Display The following electronic chart presentation and editing functionality is available: Supported chart formats: Transas TX97, S57, DCW converted charts 4x colour palettes according to the ECDIS standard Adjustable chart layers for TX97 and S57 Manual or automatic setup of the order, in which charts of different scales are overlaid on each other Z-order Chart Objects Info tool for the selected chart object or all objects in a selected area Full chart editing functionality for TX97 charts Control Operations in Chart Window The following operations are available in the Chart Window: Saving, loading and organizing of chart window settings Customizing toolbars Zooming (broad range of scales from 1:1000 to 1: ) Arbitrary off-centring and rotation Multistep undo function Selection of metric, nautical or imperial units for distance and speed Switchable display of geographic grid Electronic range and bearing line tool (ERBL) Reference point selection tool for bearing and distance calculations Cursor data panel Magnifier tool Printable chart window including an electronic chart and targets
3 AIS Data Presentation AIS data is presented in Chart Window over Electronic charts and in Target table format. Target Presentation in Chart Window The chart window contains electronic charts which serve as a background for the display of vessel targets, AIS Base Stations, AtoNs and SAR aircraft. Symbols of different shapes are used for their display. Vessel targets are shown as follows: Scalable triangular symbol or ship contour which appears on large scales, provided information on the ship dimensions is available. The symbol is oriented by the heading over an Electronic Navigational Chart Label: Name, MMSI, IMO Number, Callsign can be selected Speed vector Target history track line with track points and time marks Data panel with a position report for each track point The following parameters of the vessel target symbol display can be adjusted: Symbol contour and colour Scale at which the ship contour disappears Label colour Speed vector colour Target track colour, display options for track points and time marks Scale at which the label, speed vector and track points disappear AIS Target Table The AIS target table consists of five tabs: Ships class A, Ships class B, Base Stations, SAR aircraft and AtoNs. The following functionality is available using the AIS Target Table: Sort table contents in each column in ascending and descending order Focus within the Chart Window on the ship, Base Station, SAR aircraft or AtoN selected in the table View static information on the vessel target, SAR aircraft or AtoN View dynamic information: current position and track AIS Telegrams Presentation The TrAN Viewer supports all the types of AIS telegrams: binary and safety related, addressed and broadcast. The TrAN Viewer shows received telegrams in the Telegrams window. Telegrams are shown in the window in two ways: All the telegrams in order of receipt Telegrams sorted by the sender ship Classification and Filtration TrAN Viewer offers a set of multiple instruments for classification, highlighting and filtration purposes. The following functionality is available in all modes. Highlighting Ship Symbols Highlighting ship symbols functionality allows location monitoring of a certain group of targets, satisfying a given set of criteria, by emphasizing them with a colour. The following set of criteria may apply: MMSI mask (three first digits defining the ship s flag) Vessel type mask defining the vessel type and dangerous cargo Destination mask The number of sets of criteria is unlimited. Each set is associated with a special symbol colour used for highlighting the vessel target in the Сhart Window. Selecting a Target or Target Group with Cursor Selection of a vessel target in the chart window puts focus on this target in the Targets table. Special settings are provided for the display of selected targets, allowing the observer to select any of particular interest. Setting Filters on geographical area for received AIS messages Filtration of the received AIS messages on the set geographical area is provided in the monitoring mode. These areas are named filtering zones. To set a filtering zone should be created the chart object - an area or a sector. Filtering zones can be changed. When changing a filtering zone the list of the targets, telegrams, AIS base stations are cleared. The current condition of the data filtration is displayed in a special panel on the status bar.
4 ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONALITY photo by Axel Landvogt Navigational Alarm Functionality This functionality enables generation and display of Navigational Alarms in TrAN Viewer. The following events can be configured: Line crossing Zone approaching/entering/leaving Speed and course limits violation in zone Targets proximity in zone Receipt of AIS Safety Related message Target lost The events can be configured in three levels with different display options: Alarm, Warning and Info. The events are displayed in the Alarms table, as popup window (adjustable), on the chart window and can be accompanied with sound (adjustable). Additional actions can be associated with the event: executing of application, sending of addressed AIS message to the ship or sending of SMS and/or message to defined recipient. Local Data Recording Functionality This functionality enables AIS data and Navigational Alarms recording into local TrAN Viewer Database. There is the possibility to define the scope of recording data by message types (Class A, Class B, AotN, AIS BS, SAR aircrafts, AIS telegrams, Alarms). The recording depth is also adjustable. For retrieval of recorded data the Database Analysis and Playback modes of TrAN Viewer can be used. Inland AIS Functionality This functionality enables support of Inland AIS functionality. The following additional functions are supported for the ships transmitting Inland specific data: Display of Inland specific Blue Sign in target symbol Display of Inland specific number of Blue Cones in target symbol Receiving, decoding and display of extended inland specific static and voyage related data (messages FI10 and FI55) DATABASE ANALYSIS AND PLAYBACK MODES TrAN Viewer optionally provides access to local or external TrAN databases for request data on vessel target tracks, alarms and AIS text telegrams. To obtain data, a query must be formed for the database by using the following criteria: Time interval Number of position reports on the vessel target track MMSI. This filter can be used for selecting all the ships of the flag country Name, callsign, IMO number Ship type Destination ETA Area set with geographic coordinates Ship dimensions range (separately for the length and breadth) Data from the database will be displayed on top of electronic charts as follows: Data analysis mode all the vessel target track data within the selected time interval is shown simultaneously. Any vessel target track can be selected, and information on any of the track points can be obtained Traffic analysis mode the ship s traffic density is displayed on the chart by colour. The brighter colour indicates the higher density traffic. The geographical coordinates and value of traffic can be obtained in each point of traffic density using the mouse. The traffic density is updated when changing a chart scale and bounds of the displayed area. Playback mode data on the vessel target motion within the selected time interval is displayed in the Chart Window at a rate which corresponds to the real time motion, or on the fast time scale with the set acceleration ratio (up to 1000).
