Feaures include high efficiency, reliabiliy, low oupu volage noise and excellen dynamic response o load/line changes due o individual regulaion of each oupu. The converer inpus are proeced agains surges and ransiens occurring a he source lines. An inpu over- and undervolage lockou circui disables he oupus, if he inpu volage is ouside he specified range. An inrush curren limiaion prevens circui breakers and fuses from ripping a swich-on. All oupus are open- and shor-circui proof, and are proeced agains overvolages by means of buil-in suppressor diodes. The oupus can be inhibied by a logic signal applied o he connecor (pin ). If he inhibi funcion is no used, pin should be conneced o pin o enable he oupus. LED indicaors display he saus of he converer and allow visual monioring of he sysem a any ime. Full inpu o oupu, inpu o case, oupu o case, and oupu o oupu isolaion is provided. The case design allows operaion a nominal load up o 7 C in a free-air ambien emperaure. If forced cooling is provided, he ambien emperaure may exceed 7 C bu he case emperaure should remain below 95 C under all condiions. A emperaure sensor generaes an inhibi signal, which disables he oupus, when he case emperaure T C exceeds he limi. The oupus auomaically recover, when he emperaure drops below he limi. Various opions are available o adap he converers o individual applicaions. The converers may eiher be plugged ino a 9" rack sysem according o IEC 697- or be mouned ono a chassis or a plae. 5 5 Wa DC-DC and AC-DC Converers Funcional Descripion The inpu volage is fed via an inpu fuse, an inpu filer, a bridge recifier, and an inrush curren limier o he inpu capacior. This capacior sources a single-ransisor forward converer. Each oupu is powered by a separae secondary winding of he main ransformer. The resulan volages are recified and heir ripple smoohed by a power choke and an oupu filer. The main conrol circui senses he main oupu volage V o and generaes, wih respec o he maximum admissible oupu currens, he conrol signal for he primary swiching ransisor. This signal is ransferred o he primary side by a coupling ransformer. The auxiliary oupu volages V o and V o are individually regulaed by means of secondary swiching ransisors. Each auxiliary oupu's curren is sensed using a curren ransformer. If one of he oupus is driven ino curren limi, he oher oupus will reduce heir oupu volages as well, because all oupu currens are conrolled by he same main conrol circui. I may no fully proec i a inpu volages exceeding VDC. In applicaions, where he converers operae a DC source volages above VDC, an exernal fuse or a circui breaker a sysem level should be insalled. The fuse and a VDR form ogeher wih he inpu filer an effecive proecion agains high inpu ransiens. Noe: For applicaions, where he fuse should no be accessible; see Opion F. Inrush Curren The CM, DM, EM, and LM (excluding FM) models incorporae an NTC resisor in he inpu line, which (during he iniial swichon cycle) limis he peak inrush curren in order o preven he connecors and exernal swiching devices from damage. Subsequen swich-on cycles wihin a shor inerval will cause an increase of he peak inrush curren due o he warming-up of he NTC resisor. The suppressor diodes are no designed o wihsand exernally applied overvolages. Overload a any of he oupus will cause a shudown of all oupus. However, he relaionship beween T A and T C depends heavily on he condiions of operaion and inegraion ino a sysem. The hermal condiions are influenced by inpu volage, oupu curren, airflow, and Fig. 6 Oupu curren deraing versus emperaure Parallel and Series Connecion T A [ C] Main oupus of equal nominal volage can be conneced in parallel. I is imporan o assure ha he main oupu of a muliple-oupu converer is forced o supply a minimum curren of. A o enable correc operaion of is own auxiliary oupus. In parallel operaion, one or more of he main oupus may operae coninuously in curren limiaion, causing an increase of he case emperaure T C. Consequenly, a reducion of he max. ambien emperaure by K is recommended. Main or auxiliary oupus can be conneced in series wih any oher oupu of he same or anoher converer. In series connecion, he maximum oupu curren is limied by he lowes curren limi. Oupu ripple and regulaion values are added. Connecion wiring should be kep as shor as possible. If oupu erminals are conneced ogeher in order o esablish muli-volage configuraions, e.g., +5. V, ± V ec., he common-ground connecing poin should be as close as possible o he connecors of he converer in order o avoid excessive oupu ripple volages. A maximum oupu power of 5 W should be considered, if an ambien emperaure range of o 7 C is required. The maximum permissible oupu currens are indicaed in he able below. If he oupu volages are differen from sandard values, he relevan oupu currens have o be adaped accordingly. Wih reduced maximum ambien emperaure or wih forced cooling, he oal oupu power may exceed 5 W. Cusomized configuraions always need o be checked by a feasibiliy sudy firs. Please ask he Company for more informaion. Hold-up Time and Oupu Response When he inpu volage is swiched off, he oupu volage will remain high for a cerain hold-up ime h (see fig. 7) before he oupu volage falls below.95 V o nom. To achieve he hold-up imes indicaed in fig. 8, AM, BM, CM, DM, and FM models require an exernal series diode in he inpu line. This is necessary o preven he discharge of he inpu capacior hrough he source impedance or oher circuis conneced o he same source. EM and LM models have a buil-in series diode. In AM, BM, CM, DM, and FM models, no series diode is buil-in, since i would generae addiional power losses inside he converer. Noe: For hold-up ime wih opion V, refer o Opion V. Auxiliary Funcions Inhibi The oupus of he converers may be enabled or disabled by means of a logic signal (TTL, CMOS, ec.) applied beween he inhibi inpu i and he negaive pin of oupu (Vo ). In sysems wih several converers, his feaure can be used, for example, o conrol he acivaion sequence of he converers. If he inhibi funcion is no required, connec he inhibi pin o pin o enable he oupus (acive low logic, fail safe). The response imes are specified in able 6. An inpu fuse is conneced in he line o pin (Vi or L ). Since his fuse is designed o proec he converer in case of an overcurren and does no necessarily cover all cusomer needs, an exernal fuse suiable for he applicaion and in compliance wih he local requiremens may be necessary in he wiring o one or boh inpu pins (no. 9 and/or no. ), paricularly if he phase or neural line canno be assigned o he corresponding erminals (LM models operaed wih AC).
