1 Velvet Highest possible Projection Quality ZEISS VELVET 1600 Sim Digital Video Projector Issue:
2 The perfect projection solution for simulation Tailor-made for simulation Perhaps you can recall the time when slides were masked with Kodalith and lacquer to prevent the supposedly black but actually gray image background from spoiling the brilliance of the starry sky. In the age of digital projection, the problem of the brightened background unfortunately persists. However, there is a better solution today a solution developed by ZEISS: the VELVET projector, which delivers an absolutely black image background. With this unique property, VELVET is the perfect projection solution for highest quality simulation applications: On the one hand night scenes or dark scenes / dawn contents can be displayed very realistically, because there is no black level. On the other hand the high native contrast creates sharp and distinct pixels on the screen. This causes an clearly increased sharpness impression of all projected contents, compared with other projectors providing comparable pixel solutions. Further, the brightness can be graduated down to the lowest grey levels. The brightness resolution is not restricted, which allows a perfect transition from one channel to the other in the blending zones of a multi-channel projection system. ZEISS is known worldwide as the company developing and producing optical systems with high quality and unique properties. In the optical system of the VELVET, the whole experience of ZEISS is impressed: A Dyson optical system images pixel - accurately one Digital Micromirror Device on another one. With this double DMD TM configuration a contrast of 2,500,000 : 1 is reached without loss over the whole life time. Extreme precisely developed and accurately produced imaging lens systems minimize the aberration and distortion. Due to this fact, the brightness is very homogenous over the projection. The colors do not separate in the pixels, also not at the edges of the projection. 2
3 Due to an on/off contrast of 2,500,000 : 1 a pilot has the feeling of a full immersion into night flight scenes. Further VELVET benefits: low maintenance only lamps must be replaced every 2,000h color stability and homogeneity for many years no vignetting at the edges no visible stray light in the projector and the lens system no light leaking from any part of the projector housing low noise thanks to efficient ventilation quick and easy lamp change maintenance service guaranteed for at least 15 years no need of mechanical light shades for edge-blending between several channels, because no black level modular structure High image definition and stability thanks to DLP chip technology Our sensory perception is largely affected by what our eyes actually see. Pale or blurred fulldome projections, visible blending zones, and brightness and color differences between the channels contravene our experience in looking at reality and take the viewer s attention away from the projected content much to the disappointment of simulation training participants. With VELVET projectors, ZEISS offers to its customers a projection quality that is visibly superior to that of commercial projectors. Simulation applications with VELVET projectors meet the users expectations of a modern realistic impression of a virtual reality. The proprietary»true Black Projection Technology«developed by ZEISS is based on DMD TM imagers from Texas Instruments. The DLP technology offers decisive advantages over other video technologies. Arguably the greatest merit: the image remains stable for many years. Unlike other technologies, where images suffer losses in color saturation and homogeneity after a few thousand operating hours, VELVET lets you and your audience take pleasure in your imagery for a substantially longer time. With many technical and structural solutions, our projectors are designed to last for a service life of 15 years and more, plus at comparatively much lower operating expenses. 3
4 Design, manufacturing and installation from a single supplier The VELVET is a mature, tried-andtested product. Its merits are appreciated by pilots trained in flight simulators, but also by virtual reality and show event audiences. ZEISS performs a continuous further development of the VELVET. Briefly, a version with night vision capability (infrared) will be launched to the market. As designers and manufacturers of VELVET, we can guarantee aftersales service until far into the future, providing long-term protection of your investment. This does not apply to projectors made by third-party suppliers, for obvious reasons. ZEISS also merchandises and installs projection solutions with VELVET projectors. It takes the lens to complete the picture The best chip and projection technology will not create an excellent image on the dome unless it comes with an outstanding projection lens. VELVET projectors come with highperformance lenses of the ZEISS DIGIGON series. ZEISS DIGIGON VELVET zoom optics lens Their ray tracing has been specially performed for dome projection, and they convince by their higher-thanaverage imaging quality. They ensure that every single pixel contributes to the pin-sharp picture on the dome. Neither chromatic abberation nor optical distortions spoil the image quality. In the projected image, VELVET with its DIGIGON lens shows its strong points, compared to a commercial projector for fulldome projection. VELVET is a leading-edge ZEISS digital projection system, the best you can have for simulation applications.
