1 The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company TECHNICAL INFORMATION Large theater venue GET OUT TIME: 1 hour approximately after the end of show. [ ] SOUND CHECK: - to be agreed AT LEAST 1 HOUR BEFORE THE START [ ] RESERVED PARKING: for 2 mini buses near to the unloading area. [ ] CREW: (provided there is no cost to the company) At least 1 technican to help unload, help with rigging lights, sound check then Operate sound and lights during the show if the sound and lights are apart. [ ] DRESSING ROOMS: (12 people total) Two or three if possible. Required from arrival [1 x classroom for a school show] [ ] One to be near to the stage. If dressing rooms are small we may need to use the wings for the costumes. [ ] To be warm, well lit, at least 12 chairs and 5 tables for make up around the edge of the room [ ] Access to toilets and hot water dressing rooms not actually in a toilet please. [ ]

2 STAGE REQUIREMENTS PERFORMANCE AREA: Minimum size 5 x 5 metres + wing space THE SURFACE MUST BE CLEAN AND FLAT AND SWEPT PRIOR TO PERFORMANCE actors to perform in bare feet. ADAQUATE MASKING: Suitable for size of stage. (Black preferred) [ ] SET: We tour a simple stage set. (No flying required) Extra stage weights would be helpful. [ ] LIGHTING: A soft edge, warm wash with some open white to Highlight the actor s faces and covers the central performance area. [ ] 2 x columns, placed at stage right and left, both require to be lit with blue Toppies plus purple from the front shuttered in onto the column. [ ] A ceremonial brass lamp is lit with an open white Profile focused tight on the diameter of the lamp. [ ] 4 X lanterns gelled in blue and/or purple to be focused at the edge of the central performing area to add atmosphere to the stage and JUST PICK OUT the musicians. [ ] 2 x Lanterns to light the silk curtain which is held up by the actors during the show. These lights need to come from the back of FOH and as low as possible to the stage for example coming from the pross circle. If not on a floor stand if at all possible [ ] We will supply additional lighting to be placed on the floor on floor stands to act as up lighting. Lighting Pre rig would be grateful if its no more expense to the touring company [ ] The cast will passes through the audience with a mystical ritual House light will be brought up for this. [ ] WE PROVIDE: 8 x 500w Fresnel on small floor stands which will require 4 floor circuits, Down stage left or right with 15a sockets.

3 SOUND: WE REQUIRE FROM THE THEATRE: A professional vocal system is required to suit the size of the venue. [ ] 3 vocal microphones (SM58 or equivalent) with 3 boom stands [ ] Cable [ ] Minimal of 7 channel mixing desk [ ] 2 x Fold back speakers at the back [ ] CD player [ ] 3.5mm Jack output to desk for laptop [ ] POWER: We require 13amp on stage left and stage right for instruments. [ ] Audio from a laptop for our short film [ ] PLEASE NOTE: We tour a small sound system, suitable for small halls or for back up. If used, We would require 13amp-power supply on stage left or right. [ ] DVD FILM If possible we will show a short film at the start of the show and require a screen and projector. We will be touring our own if required ACCESS FROM THE DRESSING ROOMS TO THE STAGE: It is important that the way to the stage is clear of obstacles before our arrival as the actors wear large costumes that can dislodge stored equipment. (If Possible 2m wide by 2m high) Also there will not be time to set up and clear the stages and entrances on the day. FIRE: We need permission from the Fire Officer to use our ceremonial large and sturdy brass lamp. It is not moved once lit, burns a small wick the size of a candle resting in coconut oil see picture. Risk assessment is available on request. [ ] OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A large 6Ft trestle type table, in the foyer, for publicity material. [ ] A separate space for workshops if booked [ ] All our equipment is P.A.T. tested and our set treated with fire-proof retardant.

5 Technical Stage set up STAGE KEY TO SYMBOLS Our backdrops, lights and sound system are used if required. [1] Free standing centre stage backdrop. [2] Free standing masking screen to be adjusted for sight lines [3] Free standing masking screen to be adjusted for sight lines [4 & 5] Entrance & exit for artists to and from the dressing room area. If access from both sides is not possible we can use one side only. [6] Free standing blue columns approx 2.5 mts high and placed at the edge of the performing area. These are lit with a blue or purple (LEE 180) toppie, [6.5] Bottom of the columns in front there is a box with a Genesh GOD sitting on top of it. This is to be lit with a profile from FOH with tight shutters or irus on the god. [7] Warm natural wash to highlight the actor s faces and cover central performance area. [8] Lanterns gelled in blue & purple to focus on the edge of the central performing area to create an atmosphere and just pick up the musicians. [9] Ceremonial brass lamp - 1 meter high with a solid base burning a wick the size of a candle permission from fire officer required. This is lit with an open white Toppie focused tight on the brass lamp. Risk Assessment available on request. [10] and [11] our own 8 x 500w Fresnel Floor lights, placed on stands to give under lighting and create a camp Fire effect. 12] A large satin curtain is held at the front of the stage in certain scenes. This is lit with a deep amber from the front focused into a in a large letter box shape. Ideally this would be nice to light this form the pros crucial or at a similar height/ position If possible. 13] At certain times in the performance the characters run into the audience for a few minutes, if practically possible. They need to be seen by the audience by house lights or a flood in the auditorium area. [14] AUDIENCE Any additional lighting can be used as side lighting on stands, top lighting and to add colour to the set. Cross over at the back if possible. SIZE of over all stage area approximately 5 x 5 meters.
