Webinar for optical products Today s subject Auto Refractometer & Auto Ref / Keratometer AR-1 & ARK /04/16 International Sales Development Dept., International Div.
More than Auto Refract/Keratometer
Contents Superior Auto Refract/Refkeratometer 1. Features of New AR & ARK 1-1. Large Pupil Zone Imaging Method 1-2. Accommodation Measurement 1-3. Retro illumination Image 1-4. Glare Test 2. Appearance & Dimensions 3. Product Lineup (Specification)
Superior Auto Refract/Refkeratometer Young age: Measure the refractive value in wide pupil area of young people s large pupil (also for a Mesopic condition) Middle age: Accommodation check for senior glasses old age: Retro-illumination and glare test for cataract screening Every simple screening and examination for All Age groups
1-1. Large Pupil Zone Imaging Method Pupil Φ1 3.5mm New: Φ1 6mm AR central measurement (Φ1 3.5mm) + AR wide area measurement (Φ1 6.0mm) For (young) large pupil size person It may varies depend on Day/Night vision
1-1. Large Pupil Zone Imaging Method Advantage of Wide area measurement Inside AR value Outside AR value (with Stiles-Crawford effect ) Wide area AR value Inside AR value Outside AR value (Periphery data) AR value difference For eye doctors Screening of patients who need large area AR value Doctor can refer to the AR value of large area when screening patients after keratorefractive or cataract surgery. If it is difficult to measure patient s AR value only by the central portion, doctor can refer to the AR value including peripheral area.
1-1. Large Pupil Zone Imaging Method Advantage of Wide area measurement Inside AR value Outside AR value (with Stiles-Crawford effect ) Wide area AR value Inside AR value Outside AR value (Periphery data) AR value difference For optical shops Screening of potential customer who has different VA between day and night New AR/ARK can measure the accurate AR value at expanded pupil in a dark environment like OPD due to the wide area measurement. Approximately 40 to 50 % of eyewear users have different VA between day and night. If AR value difference is significant, conduct a exam in a dark room Possibility of different VA in nighttime Find a potential customer for another eyeglasses for night
1-1. Large Pupil Zone Imaging Method Wide area AR value AR value difference
1-2. Accommodation Measurement While the fixation target approaches, it measures refraction continually to measure the amplitude of accommodation in 30sec. It shows the accommodative insufficiency and decline of amplitude of accommodation objectively. If accommodation is saturated, target is moving slower and then stop the measurement for saving time by Artificial Intelligence.
1-2. Accommodation Measurement Calculate accommodation power by getting difference between max and min ARmeasurement value while accommodation measurement. Accommodation D Variation of pupil size Variation of ARmeasurement value Max AR-measurement value Max pupil size Min pupil size Mini AR-measurement value
1-2. Accommodation Measurement Prediction of Presbyopia May find: Pseudomyopia Asthenopia Accommodative spasm Accommodative palsy If the indicator does not rise enough, the accommodation power may be declining. For eye doctors For patients who get eye strain Requires less burden on operators to measure shortly and simply Possible to detect accommodative insufficiency and overcorrection Reference to prescription of addition power )
1-2. Accommodation Measurement Prediction of Presbyopia May find: Pseudomyopia Asthenopia Accommodative spasm Accommodative palsy If the indicator does not rise enough, the accommodation power may be declining. For optical shops Objective simple measurement during Vision Comparison for near Promotion tool for reading glasses for Senior, even for young people AR value for distance AR value for near (40 cm) Variation of accommodation power If variation is small, it is likely to be presbyopia.
1-2. Accommodation Measurement Implement fog more efficiently 1. Correct cylinder lens in the internal mechanism. 2. Blur the patient s view after showing the target clearly to the patient. AR-1 / ARK-1 can prevent accommodative intervention if patient s AR value has strong cylinder power. Before correction After correction
1-3. Retro-illumination Image The shadow on lenticular can be observed like retinoscopy. Opacity indication helps to predict the progression of Cataract. Posterior subcapsular cataract (PSC) Nuclear cataract Cortical cataract Central 3mm area opacity index (Height and Area) and Peripheral opacity index. *Index indication is available except for the countries under control of FDA. WHO Grade-0 Grade-1 Grade-2 Grade-3 COR Less 1/8 Less 1/4 Less ½ ½ More PSC Less 1mm Less 2mm Less 3mm 3mm more
1-4. Glare Test Responding to the market needs, glare test has been incorporated to subjective measurement as standard(ar-1s & ARK-1s only). Confirm the influence to visual acuity of dynamic scattering by the lenticular opacity.
1-4. Glare Test Glare Test Dazzling light image Normal image Low contrast VA test
