Safety First! Safety First! Any automatic equipment can be dangerous if used improperly, and this includes TigerStop and its line of automation equipment: TigerStop, TigerPro, TigerFence (standard and SLR), TigerCrossCut, TigerTurbo and HeavyDuty2, and TigerSaw. But before you put your tape measure away and start making a TigerStop machine your newest best friend, please read and consider the following safety reminders, some of which may relate to the operation of your other power tools as well. If a warning is also found elsewhere in this manual, or on a label affixed to the machine, the reference is shown in parentheses. General Warnings Installation Warnings WARNING: TigerStop, TigerFence, TigerCrossCut, TigerRip Fence, HeavyDuty2 and TigerTurbo are machine components intended for use in conjunction with other potentially dangerous machinery. The use of these components does not make that machinery safe. TigerStop LLC s products are not intended to substitute, in any manner, for safety requirements in general, or in conjunction with other machinery. These components must be incorporated into machinery by persons qualified to design safety features to make the machine as safe as possible and to ensure that it meets federal, state and local law with respect to safety and all other regulatory requirements. In addition, TigerStop, TigerStop Heavy Duty 2 (HD2) and TigerTurbo are machine components that should only be operated by qualified persons trained in safe operating procedures. Illustrations of TigerStop, TigerStop Heavy Duty 2 (HD2) and TigerTurbo components in use do not show, and are not intended to show, safety features necessary to make the machinery safe to operate. (Label covering end cap of fence extrusions) WARNING: TigerStop (TigerFence SLR, TigerFence, TigerCrossCut, TigerTurbo, HeavyDuty2) must be installed in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as common sense safety requirements. Use only trained professionals when installing TigerStop machines with existing equipment to ensure a safe and proper work station that will in no way endanger the operator or any other personnel. Do not operate without proper training, both in TigerStop operation, and in the operation of adjoining equipment. (Installation Guides of: TigerStop, TigerFence, TigerFence SLR, TigerCrossCut, TigerTurbo, HD2) FOUR IMPORTANT CAUTIONS: 1. Do not randomly drill and tap holes in the TigerStop fence beam for mounting or for any other purpose. This might damage the drive system. All fastening or attachment to the fence beam MUST be made by inserting T-bolts or T-nuts WITH washers! 2. It is CRITICAL especially if NOT using TigerStop attachment brackets (BR3x3) that if T-nuts are used, the bolts are prevented from tightening through them and into the aluminum fence beam. Again, it is imperative that washers be used! 3. Uneven tightening of the bolts used to fasten down TigerStop to its mounting support can introduce a slight twist or other deformation in the beam. This will result in inaccurate measurement and premature failure of the drive belt or other components. 4. The motor box (compartment) contains DC voltage with potentially FATAL amperage. NEVER attempt any unauthorized actions inside the motor box! (linked from TigerStop Installation, Feed Table Installation, Ledge Stand) CAUTION: NEVER drill holes into the HD2 fence beam for any reason! (HD2 Installation) CAUTION: NEVER drill holes into the TigerTurbo fence beam for any reason! (TigerTurbo Installation) CAUTION: Washers MUST be used to prevent damage to the fence beam by over-tightening! (Mounting TigerStop to a Feed Table) Interconnects Operation WARNING: Using a TigerStop interconnect does not relieve you of the responsibility for making sure that your saw or other tool has all the necessary safety equipment in place. (Standard Interconnect Kit, Advanced Interconnect Kit) DANGER: This machine can start, move, and stop automatically. Keep hands and loose clothing clear of moving parts while operating. Moving parts can crush and cut. When used with saws or other cutting equipment, bodily injury and death may result if operated without safety guards on all machines. Do not operate with guards removed. Operators must wear adequate eye and ear protection. High voltage DANGER Do not open motor compartment or controller keypad. No userserviceable parts inside. 8 What TigerFence Does TigerFence is FAST and ACCURATE, the automated fence system for table saws and sliders designed to eliminate costly setup time and reduce waste. It replaces manual rip fence gauges which must be adjusted and calibrated by hand, as well as the rip fence itself. TigerFence is completely field upgradable for a wide array of special applications. Contact Customer Service to find out more about TigerFence's capabilities! TigerFence has five basic functions. 1. Move Move The Move function lets you move TigerFence to a position by entering a length manually at the controller and pressing [START]. 2. Menu Menu The Menu is really more than a function. It is a group of 8 different menus that regulate every movement, operation and function of TigerFence. The menu does not process your materials, but it tells TigerFence how to process them. 3. Increment Increment The Increment function is a push mode used to step TigerFence through a series of repetitive equal movements. Only one increment can be set and used at a time. 4. Pre-Set Pre-Set The Pre-Set function is a set of 100 programmable "hot keys" to quickly access rips that you use often. You can group them in various ways, create, edit and delete them on the fly, as needed. 5. List List The List function is TigerFence's versatile part list handler, letting the user run, view, edit and clear part list data. There are four types of part lists: Pusher, Set Point, Pattern and Pull. 2

TigerFence SLR Installation TigerFence SLR is an automated replacement gauge for straight line rip saws. TigerFence SLR consists of fence beam (B) with mounting blocks (A), drive motor (C), SLR fence mounting bracket (D), anti-kickback pneumatic lever (E), and TigerFence controller with stand (F). utilizes the existing rip fence, but NOT the gauge. requires a vertical surface (saw top edge casting) at least 2.25" (57mm) high, and at least 4" (102mm) of clearance from the top of the saw to avoid conflict with saw controls. requires drilling holes in the saw casting for support hardware. Fig. 1 - TigerFence SLR installed A - mounting block B - fence beam C - drive motor D - mounting bracket E - pneumatic lever F - controller and stand TigerFence SLR must be installed in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as common sense safety requirements. Use only trained professionals when installing TigerFence with your existing saw to ensure a safe and proper work station that will in no way endanger the operator or any other personnel. Do not operate TigerFence without proper training. Standard TigerFence and SLR compared These instructions are based on standard TigerFence installation procedures. TigerFence SLR does NOT include a new rip fence and rip fence body on a pivot mounting attached to the carriage plate. Instead, it utilizes the existing rip fence, which is bolted to a bracket that attaches to the carriage plate. The TigerFence hole template is still used, but steps 5 and 6 are not applicable. In all models, the existing rip saw gauge will still be replaced by the TigerFence beam. Get your tools for installation ready To install TigerFence you will need these tools (or equivalents): power drill/driver and 3/8" carbide drill bit (for boring through the saw casting) 1/2" deep socket wrench & ratchet (for tightening mounting bolts) 5/32" hex wrench (for control stand set screw) two sturdy C-clamps, a combination square, and a center punch TigerFence hole template (Fig. 2, NOT shown actual size) - Actual size 24" x 60" (61cm x 153cm) 3

TigerFence SLR Installation & Basic Setup Fig. 2 Unpack TigerFence SLR Included in your installation kit is a paper template (Fig. 2) which can be used to position TigerFence accurately on the saw. After unpacking, make sure you have all the parts shown in red (Fig. 3). Basic TigerFence SLR components Fig. 3 4

TigerFence SLR Installation.Turn OFF all power to the saw! Remove your existing Straight-Line rip fence and guide bar 1. Remove the existing rip fence and guide bar. 2. The existing rip fence will be used in this application, but not the guide bar. 3. Make sure that the front edge of the saw table is very smooth and clean. This is where TigerFence will be attached. Nothing should prevent a tight fit. Mark the location of TigerFence SLR's left end 4. Line up the end of the template with the saw blade, and mark the position of the left end of TigerFence as shown on the template (Fig. 4). Fig. 4 Drill the attachment holes in the saw casting Fig. A Figs. A and B (steps 1 and 2 on the template) are for the standard TigerFence. Use them for the general concept of mounting the machine to your saw. 5. Using C-clamps, fix the (2) mounting blocks to the front edge of the saw casting, flush with the saw top. 6. Using the paper template, mark the holes for mounting the TigerFence SLR through the mounting blocks. 7. Drill the holes (Fig. B) with a 3/8" bit. The holes will not be tapped. Then undo the C-clamps and remove the mounting blocks. Fig. B 5

TigerFence SLR Installation & Basic Setup Mount TigerFence to the saw (Method 1) If there is room to the right of the saw to slide TigerFence on to the mounting hardware, use Method 1. If the saw is too close to the wall or other machinery on the right to permit this, continue at Method 2. Fig. C Fig. D In the following instructions, be sure that the MOUNTING BLOCKS (NOT shown in the photos) are inserted between the TigerFence beam and the front edge of the saw! TigerFence SLR is mounted to the front edge of the saw table through the holes you just bored (Fig. C) using mounting blocks and four pieces of hardware: T-bolt, flat washer, locking washer, and nut (Fig. D). Fig. 5 - TigerFence T-channels Fig. 6 - left end of TigerFence aligned 8. Insert a T-bolt into every hole in the mounting blocks, and then through the holes in the saw casting. On the back side of the casting, thread on the flat washer, the locking washer and the nut (in that sequence). 9. Hand-tighten the fasteners until there is about 1/2" between the T-bolt head and the mounting blocks. You may have to access the back side of the casting from inside the saw to tighten the fasteners. Again, make sure all power to the saw is turned OFF before accessing the inside of the saw through an access panel. 10. With an assistant, pick up TigerFence with the motor hanging down at the right end of the fence beam and slide it on to the T-bolts. The T-bolts slide into the channels on the back face of the TigerFence beam (Fig. 5). Make sure the left end is on the mark you transferred from the template (Fig. 6). Hand-tighten all the fasteners. Continue at Flush TigerFence to the saw table top. Mount TigerFence to the saw (Method 2) 11. Lay TigerFence down on the saw table right above the front edge of the casting in which you drilled the mounting holes. 12. Slide a T-bolt into the upper and lower channels in the back of TigerFence (Fig. 5) for each of the hole locations, and slip the mounting blocks onto the T-bolts. 13. With an assistant, flip TigerFence over and insert the T-bolts into each of the mounting holes. This will locate TigerFence but will NOT support it! 6

TigerFence SLR Installation 14. Use heavy-duty C-clamps in two places to clamp TigerFence to the saw casting while you are threading on the flat washer, the lock washer and the nut (in that sequence) to each T-bolt. Because the T-bolts are already in the channels, hand tighten all the fasteners. Make sure the left end is on the mark you transferred from the template (Fig. 6). Flush TigerFence to the saw table top TigerFence should now be snugly attached to the saw and may also be quite flush with the saw top. However, the top of the TigerFence beam must be as absolutely flush with the table top as possible. Use a combination square to check for flushness. TigerFence may deviate very slightly from the plane of the table top at its front edge, but the back edge of TigerFence where it meets the saw table should be precisely flush. 15. Make sure that the left end of TigerFence is flush with the saw top and firmly tighten the upper T- bolt at the left end, with a 1/2" socket wrench. Now, you can use this as a pivot point in making sure the rest of TigerFence will be flush with the saw table along its length. 16. Make any adjustments to TigerFence to achieve perfect flushness to the table top, and firmly tighten each T-bolt from the back side of the casting using the 1/2" socket wrench. SLR Components Kit To complete the installation, the special SLR components need to be assembled and installed. 14 TigerFence SLR Installation & Basic Setup Mount the rip fence Fig. 8a Fig. 8b Fig. 8c Fig. 8d The rip fence bracket (XB2000) is attached to the TigerFence carriage by means of the shoulder bolt (F1094) threaded through the bracket and into the carriage plate (Figs. 8a, 8d). The original rip fence of the SLR is attached to the rip fence bracket by two 10mm bolts (from the SLR) threaded into the two holes adjacent to the shoulder bolt (Fig. 8a). For additional stability, a third attachment point can be created by drilling a hole in the rip fence that aligns with the middle hole at the narrow end of the bracket (Figs. 8a, 8c). 8

TigerFence SLR Installation 1. Bolt the rip fence bracket (XB2000) to the carriage plate using the shoulder bolt (F1094) in the center hole (Fig. 8a). Do NOT torque! 2. Bolt the rip fence to the carriage using the 10mm screws from the original SLR fence (Fig. 8a). 3. If necessary for additional support, drill a hole in the fence body corresponding to the 10mm hole in the center of the rip fence bracket (Fig. 8a). Square the rip fence to the saw blade 4. Squareness horizontal to the saw blade is adjusted by the two (2) horizontally placed set screws on the underside of the rip fence bracket. If the rip fence is not exactly parallel to the saw blade, but angles slightly toward or away from the blade, adjust these. The shoulder bolt acts as a pivot point. 5. Squareness vertical to the saw blade is adjusted by the four (4) set screws on top of the bracket. If the rip fence slants toward or away from the blade, adjust these. Mount the air cylinder bracket Fig. 9 - pneumatic clamp bracket installed Mount the air cylinder The pneumatic clamp operates the lever that raises and lowers the anti-kickback guard. 6. Position the bracket on the guard housing and, using a center punch, mark a location to drill a hole for the attachment bolt. 7. Drill and tap the hole. 8. Bolt the bracket into position. Fig pneumatic cylinder installed Connect the air lines 9. Assemble the air fittings (A0237) to the cylinder (A1004) and the joint rod end (F1546) onto the cylinder rod. 10. Bolt the air cylinder to the bracket through the top hole in the bracket. 11. Bolt the air cylinder through the joint rod end to the anti-kickback lever on the saw. Fig air lines connected 12. Connect the air lines using the tubing (A1705) provided. 13. Introduce the air regulator (SB9020) into the air line in a location where it is accessible but not in the way. 14. Introduce the air solenoid valve (SB9010) into the air lines in a safe location (example: Fig. 11, arrow). 9

TigerFence SLR Installation & Basic Setup Air hookups map The air supply is connected to the intake fitting on the regulator. The intake fitting is threaded to work with either a "male" or "female" coupling (not supplied). Run a length of tubing (A1705) from the side fitting on the regulator to the intake fitting on the solenoid, between the mufflers. Run a length of tubing from both of the other fittings on the solenoid to the corresponding fittings on the air cylinder, as shown in the air hookups map. If these are hooked up wrong, the anti-kickback guard will be raised and lowered incorrectly. The anti-kickback guard should be RAISED when TigerFence is MOVING into position, and LOWERED when it is AT position. If the opposite occurs, REVERSE the air hookups! Fig control stand installed Install the control stand and controller 15. Install the control stand in a location convenient for the saw operator (Fig. 12). This will require drilling and tapping two holes in the body of the saw or an associated structure, such as an overhead guard support. 16. After mounting the control stand, load the controller on to it, and fasten it down securely. Connect the cables to the amplifier Fig. 13 cabling 17. Make sure the power switch is OFF, and plug the cable of the IOC6 into the round port (Fig. 13, #3). 18. Plug the yellow end of the controller cable into the controller and the blue end into the amplifier (Fig. 13, #2). 19. Plug the female end of the power cord into the amplifier (Fig. 13, #1), and fasten it with the metal retainer clip. The remaining port (Fig. 13, #4) is to connect to your PC. Do not run the controller cable next to power lines or along dust collection tubes! Reposition the end sensors to adjust the range of movement Fig left sensor default TigerFence should be adjusted to ensure that the rip fence will not crash into the saw blade when running the home routine. This is done by moving the end sensors. The end sensor trigger trips the end sensor at both ends of the TigerFence beam to limit the rip fence's range of movement. The left end sensor default position is as shown (Fig. 14). The left end sensor can be re-positioned to limit the minimum range of movement. 10

TigerFence SLR Installation If the rip fence looks like it would move too close to the saw blade, loosen the fastener securing the left end sensor, slide the sensor to the right and tighten it down. The end sensor at the right end of the TigerFence beam (Fig. 15) can be repositioned the same way to limit the maximum range of movement. Fig right sensor Check the SLR parameters TigerFence SLR parameters are set at the factory, but it is recommended to check two SLR-specific parameters before you begin operation. These parameters should be checked after you run the Simple Start Up, but before you start using the machine. 11

Calibrate Calibration sets the distance from the stop's current position to the zero point. 1. Cut a sample piece and measure it carefully. 2. Enter the length of the sample piece. 3. Press [D] to save parameter and exit to the Ready Screen. Home Routine The Home TigerStop function lets the user run the Home routine at any time without having to power the machine OFF and ON. Make sure the feed table is clear. Nothing should lie in the path of the stop. 1. Press [START] to run the home routine. Then, the stop reaches the home end limit and halts. 2. Press [STOP] to exit Menu. 18

Setup Menu TF Kerf Kerf sets the thickness of the saw blade, when the tool is a saw. This parameter is important if you are using push feed, pattern or increment. 1. Cut a sample piece of a whole inch length and measure it carefully. 2. Cut the sample piece in two. It does not have to be cut exactly in half. 3. Hold the two cut pieces tightly together and remeasure the resulting piece. The difference between the length of the uncut piece and the length of the two cut pieces is your saw thickness, or kerf. 4. Enter the new kerf value. 5. Press [D] to save parameter and exit to the Ready Screen. Check the kerf and adjust the kerf parameter whenever you change the saw blade. Find Limit The Find Limit function automatically finds the minimum and maximum limits of travel. These are functional designations called zero end and home end. Make sure the feed table is clear. Nothing should lie in the path of the stop. 1. Press [START] to run find limit. When it reaches the zero end, it saves the zero end limit value. 2. Press [STOP] to exit Menu. Auto Setup The Auto Setup function is a process that tunes TigerFence's accuracy. Make sure the feed table is clear. Nothing should lie in the path of the stop. 1. Press [START] to run auto setup. 19

TigerFence SLR Installation & Basic Setup Follow the instructions displayed on the screens (shown above). 2. Press [STOP] to exit Menu. Min Limit Min Limit lets the user manually set the minimum limit of travel. This value is the smallest valid position for the machine. 1. Enter the machine password, and press [=]. 2. This value is the largest valid position for the machine. 1. Enter the machine password, and press [=]. 2. Enter the new maximum limit. 3. Press [D] to save parameter and exit to the Ready Screen. Scale Scale lets the user manually set the scale. The factory default value of scale is for TigerFence. Scale is a password protected function because to change the value incorrectly can damage the machine! Proceed with caution! 1. Enter the machine password, and press [=]. 20

Setup Menu TF 2. Enter the new scale value. 3. Press [D] to save parameter and exit to the Ready Screen. An incorrect scale value can damage the machine! Example If the scale value is set too high, encoder counts per 1/1000th of an inch will increase, and the stop will move faster and further than its parameters. This will result in the stop crashing into the end of the machine. Lash Lash lets the user manually set the lash parameter. The value of lash is the length of the lash-dissipating movement the carriage makes after it moves into position. Default TigerFence lash value is Change this parameter cautiously! A higher lash will trade lowering the speed for increasing accuracy. 1. Enter the machine password, and press [=]. 2. Enter the new lash value. 3. Press [D] to save parameter and exit to the Ready Screen. Options Menu At the Ready Screen 1. Press [A] to select Menu 2. Enter the password and press. The TigerFence password is set to the serial number at the factory. 3. Press [C] to access Options 4. to scroll through the screens of the options menu 5. Press [STOP] to exit Menu. 21

TigerFence SLR Installation & Basic Setup The options menu accesses and sets various user interface configurations that TigerFence uses.
