Every one of our balustrade systems has been tested by FIRA (Furniture Industry Research Association) and certified by BM TRADA (the Timber Research & Development Agency) as meeting the necessary domestic Building Regulations, set out in British Standard BS6399: Domestic Settings private staircases providing access for residents within a private single family home must be able to resist loadings of 0.36kN/m. Light Commercial Settings in spaces categorised as light commercial settings (shared access stairwells in apartment buildings, for example) stair balustrade must be able to resist loadings of 0.74kN/m. Balustrade systems for light commercial use are equally suitable for private homes. Outdoor Settings outdoor balustrade must be able to resist various loadings, depending on the situation: 0.36kN/m for ground level domestic decking, 0.74kN/m for raised (600mm and above) domestic decking and light commercial settings, and 1.5kN/m for heavy commercial settings public areas where people may congregate such as restaurants and bars with tables of fixed seating but are not susceptible to overcrowding. 9 The FUSION system uses ingeniously simple connectors and brackets to fit the newels, rails and balusters together, all with enough adjustability to suit most staircase designs including straight and split types. And as balusters are pre-cut and the timber components pre-finished, once the rails and newels are cut to length the whole system simply slots together on-site. It s designed for heavy commercial installations, and uses a strong minimalist metal frame with a choice of attractive timber balusters, smart glass panels or elegant slatted panels. In the case of Juliette balconies, they re assembled into one piece that can then be secured to the wall using specially designed fixing brackets to save time. 32 Case study: Read Mills, Norwich. Converting a group of Victorian, Grade II listed warehouses and flourmills on the banks of the River Wensum into 180 loft-style apartments, Read Mills is one of the most prestigious developments in the city. In fact, one of the apartments has already sold for 1million a new record for the city, and a reflection of the standards set by developer PJ Livesey. The company is a specialist in developing and restoring period buildings alongside new housing, and naturally chose Richard Burbidge balustrade to complement the high specification interiors. The FUSION Commercial system, installed in the shared main entrance stairwell, creates the perfect first impression in this stunning renovation project. First impressions count, and we wanted to ensure that the entrance hall and lower floors of the mill set the tone in terms of design and aesthetics for the rest of the development, as these are the first internal areas to be seen. FUSION Commercial complemented the modern apartment interiors and provided us with a contemporary alternative to the systems we would have traditionally used in communal stairwells. It also proved quick and simple to fit, and Richard Burbidge actually sent members of their technical team down to provide on-site installation training to our installers. The second flight has a further 20 steps from the ground to the first floor.

33 Case study: Lion Quays, Shropshire. Part of the Lion Quays Hotel on the Llangollen Canal in the Welsh borders, the recently-opened Country Club and Spa has added the latest in gym technology, tennis courts and a 25m swimming pool to this luxury spa resort. The multi-million pound development by proprietor and local businessman Nick Dulson has created 70 jobs in the area. As well as a large spa and leisure centre, contractors DW Dulson have developed 19 secluded lodges all set within the hotel s 18-acre grounds. They chose our FUSION Commercial balustrade for all three internal staircases from the lobby to the leisure and spa facilities. There s also a feature balcony landing surrounding the main reception, designed to create a striking entrance. Lion Quays has an excellent reputation for quality, so it was important that the new spa and country club were equally impressive. The building blends traditional oak beams with a contemporary interiors scheme and FUSION Commercial was the perfect complement, thanks to its blend of traditional timber with modern metal finishes and contemporary design. 35 Case study: Moorland Tennis Club, Lancashire. As part of a 500,000 scheme, Moorland Tennis Club has undergone a complete transformation and now boasts an impressive new clubhouse and up-to-the-minute tennis facilities. The club was founded 65 years ago in Poulton-le-Flyde, and to bring it completely up to date decided to invest heavily in new facilities including a new clubhouse, the resurfacing of three tennis courts and new floodlights, which would allow members to play throughout the winter. As part of the stunning new clubhouse, the Club committee wanted an impressive spectator and social facility and using the innovative FUSION Commercial outdoor system on the building s balcony, the ideal viewing area for spectators and players has been created.
