MATHESON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIs, AssIGNOR TO ROLL-A-WAY BED cor- i. PORATION, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIs MAssAGING AND EXERCISINGAPPARATUS Application filed August 8, Serial No. 211,441. My invention relates to massaging and exercising apparatus and has among its other objects, the production of apparatus of the kind described that is exceedingly compact in construction and is provided with means whereby a relatively large variety of exercis es may be practiced. Aparticular obj ect of the invention is to provide an improved truck for supporting the apparatus when it is not in use.... Another particular object of the invention having is to provide improved apparatus mechanism of the kind whereby described row ing exercises may be practiced Many other objects and advantages of the construction herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilled in the art from the disclosure herein given. To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combi nation of parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims In the drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding Fig. 1 is a plan elevation of a device which embodies the invention; :... Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the improved Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the improved device shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a collapsible. truck which forms part of the device being 5 lapsed; illustrated as it appears when it is not col Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1; " ,.. Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 5-5 of Fig.1; Fig. 6 is a section taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 1; Fig. 7 is a section taken on line 7-7 of Fig. 8 is a section taken on line 8-8 of Fig. 9 is a. section taken on line 9-9. of fragmentary plan elevation of a device embodying another form of the in Fig.11 is a section taken on line of Fig " Referring for the present to Figs. 1 to 9, inclusive, wherein I have illustrated one form of my invention embodied in a device which resembles, to some extent, the devices shown in my copending application, Serial No. characters 180,278, filed 15 and April 16 designate 1st, 1927, longitudinally the reference extending side members of a frame which supports my improved massaging and exer cising apparatus. The side members 15 and 16 may be of any suitable construction but I preferably form them from sheet metal, each of the side members preferably comprising beams. 18 and 19 which extend between posts or columns 20 and 21. The space between the beams 18 and 19 of each of the side members is preferably closed by webs 22 which, of course, cause the side members to become rela tively rigid. It will be noted that an arcuate portion 24 of each of the beams 18is provided with means for mounting a plurality of roll ers 25 and that these rollers are arranged so that they conform approximately to the cur vature of one's back. As set forth in the above-mentioned copending application, this insures that they will thoroughly massage the muscles of the back when the apparatus is used for this purpose. It will be noted that the portions of the beams 18 and 19 intermedi ate the rollers 25 and the posts or columns 21 are also arcuate and are so designed that they are at a lower elevation than the arcuate por tions 24. This construction allows one to quickly and easily seat oneself upon the roll ers 25 and then place one's feet in the stirrups hereinafter described.. - The rollers 25 are preferably formed from some resilient material such as rubber, and each of the rollers is preferably mounted upon a rod or shaft 26 which has its ends ro tatably journaled in bores 27 formed in bear ing members 28 which are mounted in the beams 18. Each bearing member 28 is rigid-... ly secured to its associated beam 18 by a bolt. 29 and the bolts are arranged so that they limit longitudinal displacement of the rods or shafts 26 (see Fig. 6).. ; I prefer to make the aforementioned posts. "

Each pin 67 is slid and 16 are hand grips 36 which, as best shown 5 ably mounted in a tubular member 70 which in Fig. 7, are secured to rods 38 which are is rigidly secured to the associated arm 64, pivoted by pins 37 to rods 39, the rods 38 and a compression spring 71 being interposed 39 being slidably journaled in bores 40 form between the head 68 and the tubular member ed in the tubular members 41. The tubular 70 to urge the head toward the associated members 41 are rigidly secured in the side tube 65. A head 73 is preferably provided 20 frames 15 and 16 and, in addition to the bores upon the outer end of each pin 67 so that the 40, are provided with bores 43 to communicate pin may be withdrawn from the apertures with the bores 40 through bores 44 of rela 69.
