Every boat is unique and requires customized installation. As such, there will be variations that are possible that can t be discussed within the scope of these instructions. If you need help, please reach out to us and we will get you taken of promptly. We strongly suggest you read through these instructions fully before you begin the installation. Required and optional* components/fastener torque spec SS or SS-7-HD kit (Basic rail and carriage assembly) BMA-12 or DPA-1 kit * (Adapter plates for use with existing installation holes) RTA-17* style quick release mount LAN-12 kit * (allows travel extension of two (2) inches and / or quick release functionality) CRITICAL: All ¼-20 nuts shall be lightly lubricated to prevent galling and torqued to 75 in-lbs before mount is placed into operational service. ¼-20 fasteners that thread into a plate should be firmly hand tight but not 75 in-lbs fasteners do not have a torque rating as they are designed to apply a variable force on the bearing surface to adjust desired friction. ALL 6 fasteners in the 1.5 x 5.50 mounting pattern must be used. Failure to use all 6 fasteners will reduce the strength of the mount and can lead to premature failure or damage. Failure to use all 6 fasteners in the 1.5 x 5.50 pattern will void the warranty. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 1

2 Included components and tools you will need pictured below Step 1: Configure carriage halves Be sure to allow for proper clearance of the hull boundary or internal structures before drilling any holes in your mounting surface. You may wish to assemble the entire assembly and attach the trolling motor, or other device to it so you can see how it will operate beforehand. Pictured below are the three configurations that the carriage halves can be assembled in. Depending on which model motor you have or if you re using an additional quick release mounting system such as an RTA-17, or equivalent, you will need to assemble the carriage halves exactly as shown. Figure 1 shows a carriage half configured for mounting a trolling motor directly to the SS Note the side that the ¼-20x0.50 bolt head and the upper and lower halves are located on as this is important for clearance later. If assembled differently than shown, interference with the rail may occur. This configuration is for all supported trolling motors except a Motorguide Xi5. See figure 2 for Motorguide Xi5. Figure 2 shows the carriage halves configured for mounting a Motorguide Xi5 trolling motor directly to the SS This is exactly the same as figure 1 with the addition of 2 spacers that the Xi5 needs. Note the side that the ¼-20x0.50 bolt head and the upper and lower halves are located on as this is important for clearance later. 6 Step 2: Attaching carriage halves to the trolling motor or quick release mount Figure 4. Figure 4 shows a MotorGuide Xi5 with assembled carriage halves and spacers. We will show step by step how to install this motor to the deck of the boat. The procedure for other motors is exactly the same with the exception of not needing the spacers. 7 Figure 4a Figure 4a shows the carriage halves attached to an RTA-17 style quick release mount. In the following procedures, wherever the trolling motor is depicted, the assembled white quick release puck can be substituted. This is only important for people that are using RTA-17 style mounts in conjunction with their SS Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 7

8 Figure 5. Figure 5 shows the side covers removed from the motor and the motor placed upside down for easy access to the mounting locations on the motor. We will use six (6) bolts to attach the carriage halves to the motor. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 8

12 Step 3: Locating and attaching the SS to the deck Figure 9. Figure 9 shows the white rail positioned on the carriage halves at the fully extended position. This is important for determining exactly where to drill holes in your deck. Additionally, ensure the carriage fully bottoms out into the slot in the white rail in order to eliminate side to side movement. Use of washers under the nuts on the motor side can prevent the carriage from fully bottoming out. Double check this before moving onto the next step. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 12

13 Figure 10. Figure 10 shows the motor attached to just the rail and positioned such that when deployed there is the desired amount of shaft clearance. Once in the position you determine to be suitable, mark the deck using the two holes in the white rail visible at the rear of the motor as a template. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 13

14 Figure 11. Figure 11 shows the motor and rail removed and the bottom plate of the rail placed on the deck with the two rear holes lined up with the marks you made in the previous step. Using the metal plate as a template, mark the remaining four (4) holes and drill through the deck with a drill bit at least inch diameter and no larger than The larger hole aids in alignment of all six (6) fasteners. Typically, is used when we install these systems. For SS-7-HD systems the following steps a different as the SS-7-HD has a threaded bottom plate and a different travel stop / quick release system. 15 Figure 12. Figure 12 shows the white rail and the two metal plates aligned with the holes you just drilled. Using the ¼-20x2.0 screws supplied, be sure to place the larger oversized washer on the underside of the deck to prevent pull out. Note: the top metal plate has four (4) 8-32 screws that mount into it. These screws are used to adjust the locking friction force against the carriage later on in step 4. 17 Figure 14 Figure 14a Figures 14 and 14a show how to install a travel stop. ALWAYS install the outboard travel stop before operating the trolling motor. Operation of the SS without the outboard travel stop can result in your trolling motor falling off the rail and into the water or ground while transporting your boat. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 17

19 Figure 16 Figure 16 shows the outboard travel stop installed. Additionally, you can now fully tighten all of the fasteners to the proper torque and replace the side covers of the motor. 20 Figure 16a Figure 16a shows the six (6) long ¼-20 fasteners inserted and torqued properly to attach the bottom and top cover plates for the SS-7-HD. Once assembled as shown above you can place the entire assembly into the holes you drilled into your deck as seen in the next section. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 20

22 Figure 16d Figure 16d shows the SS-7-HD properly attached with the thumb screw on the inboard side and the two outboard travel stops installed. Use of the SS-7-HD with the thumb screw on the outboard side closest to the rub rail is NOT recommended and will void the warranty. Be sure to ALWAYS install the SS-7-HD with the thumb screw on the inboard side. To remove the motor simply remove the thumb screw and slide the carriage off the rail. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 22

25 Figure 19. Figure 19 shows the final assembled system when an RTA-17 style quick release mount is used. The trolling motor would attach to the white puck shown above normally as if the puck was hard mounted to the deck of the boat. Though this picture shows a previous revision of the SS-12-15, the installation of the puck and carriage is exactly the same for all revisions. Step 4: Adjusting the required sliding force The four (4) screws discussed and shown earlier in figure 12 are used to add additional friction between the white rail and the carriage halves. These screws should be adjusted to provide a level of sliding resistance to suit your needs. Once adjusted, the carriage will not move unless acted upon by an outside force such as your hand or collision with an object such as a dock or other boat. When the motor is deployed and in use the carriage will never move, regardless of how the four (4) small screws are adjusted. These screws allow the carriage to lock in either the deployed or retracted positions. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 25

26 Step 5: Increasing travel range and / or utilizing quick release functionality with optional LAN Increasing travel range a. The travel range can be extended if the optional LAN-12 is used. This stainless steel lanyard can be attached a number of ways and places that best suits your particular application. It comes with: i. Stainless Steel Lanyard ii. Stainless Steel Shackle b. To extend travel range, place one end of the LAN-12 under one of the washers of the ¼-20 screws that hold the SS or SS-7-HD in place and the other end to one of the ¼-20 screws on a carriage or to one of the extra holes in the carriage. c. Remove the inboard travel stop from the SS and re-tighten the screws to 75 in-lbs. NEVER use the SS or SS-7-HD with the outboard (side that faces the water) travel stop(s) removed. d. Slide the carriage as far as it will go toward the inboard side. Ensure that no more than 2.0 inches of the rail extend past the end of the SS or SS-7-HD. The more of the carriage that extends past the end of the rail the lower the load capacity of the system. At 2.0 inches the system has half the load capacity as it does when the carriage is fully within the rail. USE WITH CAUTION! 2. Adding quick release functionality a. The LAN-12 kit can also provide quick release functionality by using the supplied shackle or your own personal lock, etc. The LAN-12 should not be used for quick release functionality when using an RTA-17 style mount as it is redundant and adds unnecessary failure points. 27 Step 6: Optional adapter plate installation ShuttleSlide offers two (2) adapter plate options that can be used in conjunction with the standard SS or SS-7-HD. DPA-1 is used when you wish to reuse the holes in your deck from a previous installation of a supported trolling motor. The installation procedure is the same as when not using a DPA-1 with some obvious steps being omitted such as drilling holes in your deck. Attaching the SS or SS-7-HD to the DPA-1 is achieved using six (6) flat head ¼-20 screws and is typically shipped to you already assembled. BMA-12 is used when you wish to reuse the holes in your deck from a previous installation of a supported quick release mount such as an RTA-17. The installation procedure is the same as when not using a BMA-12 with some obvious steps being omitted such as drilling holes in your deck. Attaching the BMA-12 to the deck is achieved using four (4) flat head ¼-20 screws. You will use the same holes already in your deck to attach the BMA-12 and then you will attach the SS or SS-7-HD to the BMA-12 using the six (6) supplied ¼-20 screws using three (3) washers under the head of each screw. All other installation steps are identical to when you are not using a BMA-12 adapter. Copyright ShuttleSlide LLC 27
