1 AUGUST 2018 COAST TO COAST COINS and Currency 9365 Gerwig Lane Columbia, MD $2.00 per issue Eye Appeal! How Important is Eye Appeal? If you ever plan to sell your coins, it s everything! At every major show I attend, dealers fight over the coins with pizzazz, while the technically equivalent coins that lack flash are overlooked. It may take a 20 power glass to see a small mark, but beautiful blazing mint luster is easy to see with the naked eye. I would argue the luster sells coins more than the mark detracts! I make every effort to only buy coins with strong eye appeal. Please keep that in mind as you browse this months Rare Coin Monthly. Ken Two Beautiful Gem $5 Indians 1912 PCGS. MS-65. 4 Order Toll Free T hese Indian Princess Head Three Dollar Gold Co ins beautiful coins were struck from 1854 to 1889 and, although they were never popular with the general public, they are a favorite with collectors today. It is probable that the reason for their existence was to buy postage as a stamp back then cost three cents so you could acquire 100 for a $3 gold coin. Silver Three Cent pieces may also owe their existence to the purchase of postage stamps. All these coins are scarce with many having very low mintages. Most were minted in Philadelphia although the branch mints of Dahlonega, New Orleans, and San Francisco issued a very limited number of coins. We are pleased to offer a nice selection of Three Dollar Gold Coins O. PCGS. XF-45. Outstanding for the grade and issue with strong detail & surfaces that are much more attractive than typically seen. The only O mint Three with a mintage of just 24, # $ S. PCGS. XF-40. Solid detail w/pleasing surfaces. Akers called the 55-S, one of the rarest & certainly among the most unappreciated dates in the series. He goes on to state that it has the lowest average grade in the entire series # $ S. NGC. AU-50. One of just 2 Threes struck in San Francisco w/a modest 34,500 minted. This is a problem-free example with strong detail # $ S. PCGS. AU-53. Well struck w/pleasant yellow surfaces that have a touch of orange and a few tints of ruby. The last issued branch mint $3 with the exception of the unique S mint issued in Difficult to obtain in any grade and exceedingly difficult in high grade. With a mintage of 7,000 pieces only 3 have been graded uncirculated by PCGS. Old green label holder... # $ PCGS. MS-61. Well struck with vibrant fresh luster. A popular Civil War date. Just 5,959 minted and always in demand # $ PCGS. XF-45. Well struck with attractive problem-free surfaces. A scarce Civil-War date w/only 5,750 minted.. # $ NGC. AU-53. A scarce Civil War issue with a mere 5,000 pieces struck. This is a pleasing problem-free example with antique gold lustrous surfaces and strong detail # $ PCGS. MS-62. CAC. Flashy peach-gold luster with prominent clash marks on both sides. Scarce in any grade as just 5,000 were minted during the heart of the Civil War # $ NGC. AU-58. Sharply struck w/bright, lustrous, semi proof-like surfaces. A rare Civil War date that seldom shows up in any grade. Just 2,630 minted... # $ PCGS. MS-61. Just 4,000 minted and an issue that apparently saw heavy circulation as there are probably less than 50 examples known in mint state. This particular coin is very pleasing with flashy orange-gold luster and a solid strike # $ PCGS. MS-62. A nice bold strike with flashy orange-gold luster over semi proof-like surfaces. Scarce w/a mintage of just 2,600. Seldom-seen in mint state.. # $ PCGS. AU-53. Sharp detail with lustrous yellow-gold surfaces. Just 4,850 minted # $ PCGS. MS-61. Radiant frosty yellow-gold luster and a solid strike. A scarce date with a mintage of just 4,850 coins. # $ PCGS. MS-62. CAC. Super flashy with frosted devices and reflective surfaces. Outstanding for the grade and the only 62 CAC has approved. Only 12 coins have graded higher at PCGS. A very tough date with a mere 3,500 coins minted.. # $ PCGS. MS-62. Flashy orange-gold luster with semi proof-like fields and nice frost on the design. The strike is bold & the wonderful originality, coupled with a modest cameo, gives this scarce Three exceptional eye appeal. Only 1,300 minted. # $ PCGS. AU-53. Well struck with pleasing lustrous surfaces. A scarce date with just 2,000 minted # $ NGC. MS-64. CAC. Explosive original mint luster and a sharp strike with beautiful satiny surfaces. A great choice for the collector seeking a memorable Three for their type or date set # $ PCGS. MS-61. Flashy luster with a faint ice-blue hue # $ PCGS. MS-64+. A great choice for a gold type set as 1878 Threes come extremely flashy, and this near-gem is indeed flashy! It is also well struck w/beautiful minimally abraded surfaces # $ PCGS. AU-58. Well struck with rich mint luster and just the barest touch of wear. A very attractive example of this scarce date. Only 1,500 pieces minted.. # $ PCGS. MS-62. An immensely pleasing coin with booming bright gold luster and a needle-sharp strike. The fields are super flashy and proof-like while the design elements are nicely frosted. Only 801 were minted making this the second lowest mintage date in the series behind the 1881 which had an even 500 coins struck # $ PCGS. AU-58. A bold strike and super flashy surfaces give this scarce date Three the look of a nice mint state coin. There is the slightest trace of rub, thus the AU-58 grade. Only 1,000 minted.. # $ PCGS. MS-64. CAC. Big booming orange-gold luster and a sharp strike with semi proof-like fields. Totally original with no spots & minimal marks. A lovely example of this scarce date that saw a mintage of just 6,000 coins # $ PCGS. MS-64. Creamy yellow-gold luster over very attractive and minimally abraded surfaces. Just 5,000 minted. # $ PCGS. MS-62. From the final year of the series/denomination with a mintage of just 2,300. This example is sharply struck with super flashy semi proof-like surfaces # $
