She also teaches Television Writing and Transmedia Storytelling at York University and serves as the President of the Writers Guild of Canada. Julie lives in Toronto with her daughter, and her favourite thing in the world is working with Jill Golick. ANDREW WREGGITT Movies & Miniseries The Phantoms Andrew Wreggitt is an award-winning screenwriter with 70 hours of produced network television to his credit including 15 movies and mini-series. Recent movie credits include The Jack Layton Story, Borealis, The Phantoms, Wrath of Grapes: The Don Cherry Story, as well as Mayerthorpe, and One Dead Indian, which won him Gemini awards for writing. Andrew is a multiple WGC Screenwriting Award nominee and past winner for movies and mini-series as well as a five-time AMPIA award winner for best screenplay. 25

Their process of meticulous research, and their even temperament, helped project a confident, robust creative vision that made Flashpoint that rarest of shows one whose ratings went up over the course of its run! Stephanie and Mark also gave back by assembling a core of up-and-coming writers. This Award acknowledges their talent and generosity, their clarity of vision and determination to deliver. ADAM GARNET JONES, Wild Medicine The Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize Wild Medicine is a uniquely moving story of a gay Anishnabe teenager, as he and his family cope with the aftermath of his sister s suicide. Shane is forced to choose between his own future and that of his family. Within this impossible burden the complexities of sexuality, grief, ambition and poverty on the reserve are explored with great heart and convincing authenticity. The writing is disciplined, nuanced and utterly original: exactly the kind of voice the Jim Burt award seeks to recognize, encourage and celebrate. Fully covering the animation jurisdiction has been an ongoing, 13-year goal for the WGC. The contribution of Anne-Marie, Simon and Lienne benefited not just animation writers but all writers as we debated every aspect of the IPA with our producer colleagues. They made a difference to working life of Canadian screenwriters. 27
