Even if you've only been here for a day or two before, you're part of our community and we're glad to see you again. Come and say hello to us in the library! We are a resource for the whole school to use - you can find books to help with your schoolwork or read for yourself, comics, DVDs, magazines, computers for homework, clubs... you'll be amazed at what you can find in the library. Older students will notice a change in layout: the library has instituted zoning to help everybody get the most out of the space. Look at the signs to see what area you're in. 3 Bookbuzz 2018 Bookbuzz is a charitable project which allows every year 7 student to chose a book of their very own to keep forever.the collection for next year's Bookbuzz has been announced, so at the end of term our Y7 students will be getting one of these - but first,, they have to choose one!

4 Bookbuzz 2018 This year there is a huge array of fifteen books to choose from. Year 7 will come to the library in English class (which is a great opportunity for us to meet you all!), be shown the books and choose which one they want. Then we take the books back and order a copy just for you!

5 Carnegie Medal Winner The Carnegie Medal is a book prize specifically given for children and teen books. Every year schools all across the country (including many in Hackney) participate in a 'shadowing' scheme where they read the nominated books to see which one they like best. This year, S was given global sensation THUG - The Hate U Give - to read and review. Students made an incredible presentation using illustrations, poems and music to show the other schools the book's characters. Students even got to meet Angie Thomas, the author, at the Hackney celebration.

In the hit book based on emotional true stories, Starr witnesses the death of a close friend at the hands of the police, and begins to question the world she lives in and what it means to be a black girl growing up in America right now. Spending 50 weeks as a bestseller, it's no surprise that the YA hit of the past year has been made into a film. Amandla Stenberg stars as the girl caught between two worlds in the movie adaptation, which also stars Common, Issa Rae and Sabrina Carpenter. Read it before you see it!

The theme of Banned Books Week 2018 is 'banning books silences stories' so the focus is on books with LGBTQ+ issues, mental health and racial diversity as themes. 8 Foyles Visit Some of our stellar Student Librarians were rewarded for their hard work over the last year with a trip to Foyles. They got to pick some new books for the library and meet author Chloe Coles on a fun-filled day out. Student Choice books have a special orange sticker on the spine so that you can find them easily in the library. If you are the kind of person who doesn't know what they like to read, look for an orange sticker for a student-recommended read. If you want to become a student librarian, see Ms Loy
