A table tennis bat and 4 ping-pong balls cost $17. The bat costs $14.50 more than a pingpong ball. Find the cost of a ping-pong ball. 3. 4 4. Mrs Huang bought some of these three types of books A, B and C for her daughter. Book A cost 60 more than Book B. Book B cost $1.20 more than Book C. If she bought 4 books of each type and paid $60 in all, how much did a Book A cost? 5. Rosemary spent $376 for a hand-phone, a Ipad and two storybooks. The hand-phone cost $36 more than the Ipad and the Ipad cost $48 more than a storybook. What were the cost of a hand-phone and also the cost of a storybook? 6. One kilogram of red bean and one kilogram of curry powder cost $1.60 altogether. Mrs Ong bought two kilograms of red bean and four kilograms of curry powder for $4.80. 5 7. Mary bought 6 erasers and 2 pens. Dion bought 2 erasers and 6 pens. Dion paid $0.80 more than Mary. If an eraser cost 35, what was the cost of a pen? 8. Josephine had $62. This amount of money was just enough to buy seven cans of soft drink and four kilograms of rice. If she bought four cans of soft drink and seven kilograms of rice, and had $3 left, how much did it cost for one kilogram of rice? 9. A marker pen cost 7 times more than a note pad. If she bought 5 more carry bags than backpacks, how many backpacks did she buy? 11. Janet bought some pens and pencils for $7. There were 9 more pencils than pens. A pen cost 75 and a pencil cost 25 less than a pen. How many pens and how many pencils did she buy? 12. A local parcel delivery company delivered 800 glassware sets for Mr Ng. It charged $0.20 for every set safely delivered. But it had to pay Mr Ng for $6.80 for each broken set. If Mr Ng paid a total of $90 for the delivery, how many sets were safely delivered? Mr Forrest played 4 times with as many men as women (include Mrs Forrest). Mrs Forrest played 5 times with as many men (include Mr Forrest) as women. How many men and how many women were there at the party? 17. A bank teller has a 50 -coins box and a 10 -coins box. There are 23 more coins in the 10 coins box than in the 50 -coins box. But the amount of money in the 50 -coins box is $2.10 more than the amount of money in the 10 -coins box. How many coins are there in each of the coin boxes? 18. A large drum had 660 l of honey. A small drum had 130 l of honey. If a same amount of honey was needed to fill each drum to the fullest, the honey in the large drum would have three and one-half times as much as the honey in the small drum. 9 19. David spent two-seventh of his money on a TV set, one quarter of it on a remote controlled car and $375 on food. After spending these amounts of money, he still had $15 left. How much money did he have in the beginning? 20. In a ball pool contained some 4 type of coloured balls. One-fifth of them were green, onesixth of them were yellow, three-eighth of them were blue, and the rest were orange. There were 70 more blue balls than orange balls. How many more green balls were there than the yellow ones? 21. Mom made some cup cakes. She sold three-fifth of them in the morning and one quarter of the rest in the afternoon. He took another 3 days to read another one-ninth of the book. Then, he took another 8 days to read the remaining 88 pages. On the average, how many pages did he read in one day? 24. Richard took 2 hours to drink three-thirteenth of his cans of Coke. He took another 4 hours to drink the remaining cans of drink at the rate of 30 cans per hour. How much coke was in these bottles at first? 26. A NO JAM A4-size paper box was one-sixth full. When another 520 sheets of paper were added into the box, it became three-fifth full. How many sheets of paper could this box hold? 27. Mr Wood is a furniture shop owner who bought some chairs. One-fifth of them were foldable type and the rest were fixed type. He gave away all his cows to share among the sons before he died. The first son received three quarters of the cows and a quarter of a cow. The second son received three quarters of the remaining cows and a quarter of a cow. The third son received three quarters of what was left of the cows and one quarter of a cow. No cow was left after this. How many cows were there in all? 30. Mrs Nice made some cakes. She gave Agnes one cake more than half of the cakes. If Roslyn saves $32 and Roy saves $16 more than her after some days, how much pocket money does Roslyn get in a day? 32. A glass jug weighs 13 kg when it is filled with honey. The same jug weighs 7 kg when it is filled with water. If honey weighs 4 times as much as water, what is the weight of the jug? 33. A fish is cut into 3 parts : its head, its body and its tail. It has a tail as long as its head and one-half the length of its body. The body is as long as the head and tail together. If the head of a fish is 15 cm long, what is the length of the fish? There are 351 Lego blocks of black, gray and yellow in a Robotics Invention box. There are seven more yellow blocks than black blocks. There are twice as many gray blocks as black blocks. He then had as many red ones as green. How many marbles of each type did he have in the beginning? 41. Albert, Bernard, Charlie and Donald had a common hobby of collecting Pokémon cards. They had a total of 230 cards. Albert then bought 25 newly released cards; Bernard sold 15 cards for some extra pocket money; Charlie received some cards as his birthday present that tripled the number of his cards; and Donald sold two-fifth of his cards to buy a gameboy. As a result, each of them had the same number of cards. Find the number of cards that each boy had at first. 42. Three girls, Annabel, Brenda and Cindy had a total of 144 friendship bands. If Annabel gave Brenda as many bands as Brenda had; then Brenda gave Cindy as many bands as Cindy had; and then Cindy gave Annabel as many bands as Annabel had left, they each had the same number of bands. 19 49. Tony has a hobby of collecting stamps. He has 195 Singapore and Australia stamps. He also has 235 Australia and Malaysia stamps. His Singapore stamps are four-ninth of his Australia ones. How many Malaysia stamps does Tony have? 50. There were 810 visitors to a musical concert hall. Five-ninth of them were women. At halftime, some of the women left the hall, the number of women who stayed behind made up two-seventh of the total number of visitors who remained in the hall. How many women left the hall? 51. In a toys shop, there were two types of Tamiya 4WD toy cars on display, 242 cars in total. When 50 of the type 1 cars and two-ninth of the type 2 cars were sold, the number of type 1 cars left was the same as the number of type 2 cars left. As a community service, Lisa, Melvin and Norman were asked to sell charity tickets. Each ticket was $10. Lisa managed to sell three-fifth of the tickets. Melvin and Norman could only sell the remaining tickets in the ratio 8 : 7. If Lisa sold 29 tickets more than Melvin, how much money did they collect altogether? 57. Mr Tan, Mr Lee and Mr Toh bought TOTO tickets and won. They decided to split the winning prize money according to their share of the cost of these TOTO tickets. If Mr Tan were to give two-fifth of his share to Mr Lee, Mr Lee would have as much money as Mr Tan. One-third of Smart-Alex s Coke was poured into Blur-King s bottle and then one-third of Blur-King s Coke was poured into Smart-Alex s bottle, what will the new ratio be? Smart-Alex told Blur-King that the fractions were the same so each would have the same amount, do you agree? 60. Oscar and Peter shared some sweets in the ratio 71 : 83. For every 4 cars in the car park, there were 5 buses. (a) Find the ratio of buses to motorcycles to cars in the car park. After another half an hour, the two vehicles were still 5 km apart. Find the distance between Jurong Bird Park and Changi. 92. The distance between Singapore and Penang is 1350 km. The express train travels from Singapore to Penang at an average speed of 70 km/h. At the same time, a cargo train travels from Penang to Singapore at an average speed of 65 km/h. How long would it take for the two trains to meet on the way? How far would the express train have travelled from Singapore? 93. To get to school from home, I have to cycle one km up a hill and one km down the other side. Then some more hot water is added, the container is ¾ full. (b) How many litres of water is added to the container? Finally, when 5 metal balls are added, the container is full. (c) What is the volume of each ball? 99. An empty rectangular tank, of 0.5 m by 0.6 m by 0.4 m, was filled by a hose that supplied water at a rate of 4 litres per minute. It is filled to four-fifth of the tank. (a) How long does it take to fill four-fifth of the tank, in minutes? Next, one 30-cm metal cube is placed at the bottom of the tank, and the filling at the same rate continued. By the time that the hose was stopped, 4 litres of water had overflowed.
