THE TELEVISION EXPLORER 3 THE TELEVISION EXPLORER The evolution of the field strength meter: PRODIG-5 PROMAX continues to revolutionise the television field strength meters market. The PRODIG-5 is a new meter that is going to change the way users make and understand signal measurements. A new concept PROMAX leads the television installation and maintenance test equipment market. With the launching of the EXPLORER, the equipment concept has changed and from now on it is never going to be the same again. We are introducing a new instrument that has a new concept. In the design we have exploited the possibilities that new digital design techniques are offering to produce an instrument that is above all, easy to use. The EXPLORER is innovative both in the functional aspects and in those related to ergonomics. Any television systems installer expects from a meter functions that allow for installation and maintenan in the fastest and most comfortable way. At the same time, he wishes the instrument can really establish a reference before determinig problems of the input signal, in the distribution components or with the reception equipment. Due to the extremely compact design, the technical specifications and the low cost, the EXPLORER is going to become the benchmark instrument for installers.

4 THE TELEVISION EXPLORER An avalanche of functions The highlights of the EXPLORER are its reduced dimensions and weight, its low cost and its incredible technical features: * Coverage of satellite and television. * Tuning by channel and frequency (IF or direct in the case of satellite) * Automatic channel search with the possibility to create channel plans for each new session. * Automatic identification of the type of signal. * Multistandard analogue measurements: Level, Video-Audio, C/N. * Digital measurements: Power, C/N, Channel Identification. COFDM 2k/8k: MER, VBER, CBER QPSK: CBER, VBER, MER. QAM 16/32/64/128/256: BER, MER. * Simultaneous display of all the measurements and main associated parameters. * MPEG decoding. *List of services and PID's. * 5" TFT Monitor (320 candles/m2). * Total precision: 1.5 db terrestrial. 2.5 db satellite. * Li-ion batteries: 4 1/2 hours use and recharge to 80% in 1 hour. * Dimensions: 230 x 161 x 76 (total volume: 2814 cm3). * Weight: 1.9 kg (without protector). * DiSEq 1.2. Channel Identification The EXPLORER has been designed to satisfy the measurement needs in this transitional period to the analogue switch off in terrestrial, satellite and cable. For this reason it is equipped with functions to measure both analogue and digital signals. When pressing the 'identification' key, it searches and identifies the signal under test. First it recognises whether the signal is an analogue channel or a digital one. If the channel is analogue, it determines the television standard of the signal. When the signal is digital, it analyses for each modulation type QAM / QPSK / COFDM all the associated parameters such as the modulation system (2k-8k), the symbol rate, the code rate and determines the value of the signals under test. Simultaneous measurements The operation of the EXPLORER is extremely easy. A symbol based keyboard allows the direct access to the various functions and the measurements are displayed simultaneously. In this way, the EXPLORER becomes a fully automated and agile instrument, able to detect and to identify practically all of the channels in a television system. Even in adverse situations, when the conditions of the signal to be identified are very poor or when the characteristics of the signal do not comply to any of the algorithms for their identification, the equipment allows a manual configuration. Signal detection When the same 'identification' key is pressed for a few seconds, a new spectrum exploration session begins. The EXPLORER is able to determinate channel bandwidths and digital channel shifts.

THE TELEVISION EXPLORER 5 The Explorer Unlike the meters currently on the market, the PRODIG-5 makes a dynamic exploration of the spectrum, detecting all the channels in the explored band, this applies for the terrestrial and satellite television bands. The meter locates all the channels in the spectrum with no need of any previous information about the number of channels, the type of signals transmitted or their characteristics. This measurement concept marks a radical change in the way to understand and to use the meter. The meter is no longer a passive equipment, that only allows to measure the state of a series of channels, but it is the meter on its own that begins by locating the channels and collecting them in a data base. The PRODIG-5 discerns analogue and digital signals. With the data collected after each exploration, it creates a register that contains tables of channels that can be independent for each system or installation. These tables of channels can be personalised by assigning them a name. At any time, the measurement sessions using only the pre tuned channels can be repeated. In this way it is possible to optimise the measurement process.

6 THE TELEVISION EXPLORER Speed of process Time is a limited resource By increasing the equipment s intelligence, devices have been incorporated that allow to increase the speed of processing. The final result is much shorter measurement times than those equipments with traditional designs existing until now. Display The PRODIG-5 incorporates a high quality 5" TFT- LCD display that allows optimal resolution. A light sensor activates the contrast and luminosity of the display according to the environmental conditions. being made i.e.terrestrial / Satellite and Analogue / Digital. Ergonomics The EXPLORER has an ideal size to hold with a hand. The instrument can be held to the body with the carrying bag which at the same time protects it from the rain. Another detail that has been taken into account, especially considering its outdoors use, has been the anti-shock protector that completely covers the instrument. more than 4 1/2 hours. It is possible, at any time, to check status of the battery. A sensor initiates adjustment of the contrast and brightness of the display. This extends battery operation time. Video output On some occasions, it is convenient to display the measurements of the spectrum analyser in a larger format. The equipment has a video output that provides a signal to a bigger screen or a projector. The front panel does not have any Transport case (option) keys nor gaps to avoid accidental water ingress. The weight without the anti-shock protector is less than 2 kg! Optionally, the instrument can be supplied with a strong transport case. Indication of status At all times the instrument indicates the type of measurement that is Li-ion Batteries The instrument is fitted as standard with Li-ion batteries. These batteries are the type that provides a maximum operating time and a minimum charging time. In level measurement mode, the estimated duration is

THE TELEVISION EXPLORER 7 Antenna installation The EXPLORER has been designed to make compatible type of measurements that require of very different working configurations. A specific function has been developed for easy antenna alignment. When selecting... the instrument configures itself to offer a very fast sweep time of the spectrum and a high sensitivity graphical bar allows the fine adjustment of signal peaks necessary to optimise antenna alignment. The EXPLORER incorporates the supply voltage for amplifiers and LNB, including the 5 V for DVB-T indoor antennas. It does also include commands to program Diseq 1.2 devices. Selection of measurement All the related measurements are displayed simultaneously on the screen. When pressing the measurement key, a main measurement is selected, so that the one that appears emphasised in the display can be selected. Which means the instrument adapts to the diverse preferences of the user without adding any complication during familiarisation or operation.

8 THE TELEVISION EXPLORER Spectrum analyser One of the features that has been most carefully studied in the instrument design has been the spectrum analysis functions. Features like accuracy, resolution, sensitivity and sweep time can make a spectrum analyser a very useful tool or a completely useless instrument. We believe the PRODIG-5 is well designed to meet the diverse applications the telecommunication installer has to undertake. The EXPLORER presents an innovative control system based on four arrows, that makes the use of the spectrum analyser very intuitive. The 'UP-DOWN' arrows set the reference level, so that when pressing the 'UP' arrow reference level is increased by 10 db (when in a dynamic margin of 10 db/division). When pressing the "DOWN" arrow, the reference level is reduced by 10 db allowing to check signals of lower level. Our accumulated experience and know-how has been used in the EXPLORER to develop a spectrum analyser adapted to a wide variety of measurement requirements, from the installation of the antennal to the detection of complex impulsional noise events. While all advanced control possibilities have been incorporated, a new system to simplify its use has been implemented. The "Left-Right" arrows allow to select the span or expansion, so that when "right" is pressed the margin of frequencies in display is increased and when "left" is pressed the zone around the cursor can be analysed with more detail. By means of the rotating button any frequency or channel that needs to be tuned can be selected.

FIELD STRENGTH METER 9 FIELD STRENGTH METERS: PROLINK-4 & PROLINK-4C Premium New functions for DVB-T measurements: the impulse response The most complete instrument on the market now incorporates a new function: the impulse response. To the already very wide range of functions for measurements in satellite, terrestrial cable television systems, the instrument adds now a new feature, specially useful to work in DVB-T Single Frequency Networks. The impulse response We introduce the new channel impulse response function for PROLINK-4C Premium and PROLINK-4 Premium. This feature allows the detection of "echoes" in reception. DVB-T digital terrestrial television has begun to be implemented in a few countries whilst in many other countries the introduction is planned. Working in Single Frequency Networks, all the transmitters in the covered area transmit the same programme in the same channel.

10 FIELD STRENGTH METER It is necessary that all the transmitters are very well synchronised both in time and in frequency. Usually, GPS based systems are used for this purpose. In the area where the coverage maps from different transmitters overlap, the signals from different transmitters reach the same receiver at different instants of time. The guard interval is the period of time that the signal incorporates to absorb these differences in the arrival time to the receiver, so that only one of the signals is going to be considered as a reference and the rest will be echoes. The new impulse response function built in the PROLINK-4 Premium and PROLINK-4C Premium allows the graphic analysis of this guard interval and the different events. The guard interval is represented in the figure above. The horizontal axis shows the different arrival times of the signals from the different transmitters and the vertical axis shows the level. The distance in kilometres for the different arrival paths is also indicated on the screen. The further the distance to the transmitter, the longer the time required for the signal to reach the receiver. This function will be included as standard in the instruments of new delivery. If required, it is also possible to upgrade the firmware of the instruments in the field. Quality of the digital signal The PROLINK-4 Premium and PROLINK-4C Premium include many other functions to determine the quality of the DVB-T signals. For example, the measurement of Power, C/N, BER, CSI and MER. The Bit Error Rate (BER) is a parameter that determines the limit of acceptability of the signal. This limit is established by DVB. Signals with a BER value higher than 2 x 10-4 are not acceptable as they may contain too many errors and could even generate artefacts in the picture, showing those frozen square pieces on the screen.

FIELD STRENGTH METER 11 But to define the quality of the signal other measurements such as CSI or MER have to be taken in consideration. Such parameters will determine the noise margin or, in other words, how far we are from the limit of acceptability. The constellation Another very important and complementary function to that we have described previously is the constellation. A well designed and perfectly synchronised transmission system does not assure a reception free of errors in all the coverage area. The DVB-T Digital Terrestrial Television uses COFDM modulation. This technique divides the bandwidth of a television channel in many portions. Each one is occupied by a QPSK, QAM 16 or QAM- 64 modulated carrier. Most of these carriers (1705 in 2k systems and 6817 in 8k) are transporting information. The so called pilot or TPS carriers, are necessary for the synchronisation of the receivers. The constellation diagram is a graphic representation of all the digital symbols received in a period of time. Thus, the 16 QAM is represented on the screen by a total of 16 different zones. In the ideal case, the symbols are recognised without any noise by the demodulator and they appear in the constellation diagram like points that one after another are hitting the centre of each zone. The noise and other defects of the transmission to channel cause the demodulator to not always read the symbols suitably. The points can not then hit in the theoretical centre and the constellation diagram will show a greater dispersion with diverse forms depending on the type of noise. The constellation function allows to analyse each one of the QAM carriers within a COFDM signal: 1705 in the system 2k and 6817 in 8k. Transport stream analyser Another very useful function is the transport stream analyser. This function allows the detection of impulsive noise affecting the signal reception. The impulsive noise is mainly caused by home appliances, vehicles, etc. These interferences are easily leaked through the antenna and can affect the reception, but they are not always present. This function allows permanent surveillance of the signal to detect the appearance of such random interferences. The PROLINK-4 Premium and PROLINK-4C Premium allow the demodulation of the signal to verify the tables of channels and services, the PID tables, pictures and sound. The built in CAM module also allows the demodulation of encrypted signals.

12 DVB-T DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TV MODULATOR DVB-T DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TV MODULATOR: MO-170 DVB-T receiver testing system We presented a solution for testing of DVB-T digital terrestrial television receivers and systems. In addition to the multistandard analogue signal modulated in Vestigial Side Band from 35 to 900 MHz, the system provides a digital DVB-T signal of selectable quality, essential to verify the margins of operation of the receivers. COFDM Modulator The MO-170 modulator provides COFDM signal in any UHF or VHF channel. It allows the adjustment of the signal parameters, such as the modulation type 2-4-8k, the constellation QPSK or 16/64 QAM, the code rate, etc. It also allows the generation and adjustment of different quality TV Generator GV-998 signals so to check the response of the systems under test. Verification system The input signal can be accepted in either ASI series or SPI parallel format. Using the GV-998 generator, it makes a complete and independent testing set denominated GV-999. 13 EURODOCSIS / DOCSIS ANALYSER 13 PROMAX-26 is an analyser designed for the installation, commissioning and maintenance of interactive high speed data and video services over cable TV networks using EURODOC- SIS and DOCSIS 2.0 standards. In addition, it performs the measurements needed to test VoIP services. EURODOCSIS / DOCSIS ANALYSER: PROMAX-26 Installation and maintenance of cable-modem networks It can be used in two different operating modes, registered and non registered. In non registered mode the PROMAX-26 displays important cable modem system behaviour parameters such as return path attenuation, frequencies in use, MER or constellation and digital channel power. In registered mode it measures statistical data about packet transmission in the network and displays corresponding IP addresses. Return path attenuation performance, cable modem transmission power or return path attenuation. Return path attenuation is specially important. Installers must take action if this parameter is out of a specific range for system operation may be compromised otherwise. These measurements are important for early detection of excessive system noise or intermodulation problems in the downstream. In general poor MER may cause cable modem system to operate with difficulties and at a low speed due to lost packets and interruptions. Graphic constellation display and bit error rate (BER) are other helpful measurements for downstream performance evaluation. PROMAX-26 communicates with the CMTS automatically displaying important information about the cable modem system such as frequency assignment, downstream MER and constellation display

14 EURODOCSIS / DOCSIS ANALYSER Scan & signal level meter function The instrument can be also used to measure analogue and digital RF signal levels. Measurement of signal levels can help to locate many problems specially when the system does not work well enough to permit communication between PROMAX-26 and the CMTS Once PROMAX-26 is registered in the network it can display useful data regarding IP address assignment in the communication and how packets flow through the network. Packet loss ratio (PLR) is obtained as a result of sending and receiving ping packets. It is a statistical measure of the effectiveness of packet circulation through the network and therefore is crucial to estimate global cable modem system performance. Channel evaluation The instruments includes a function to generate a time-continuous signal with selectable level, frequency, modulation and symbol rate in order to evaluate the quality of the upstream channel. Channel Search Packet loss ratio Search function explores all EURO- DOCSIS/DOCSIS channels and lists them. For each channel it displays the power level, the MER and the Upstream Channel Identifier (UCI). DATA LOGGER Most important upstream and downstream measurement parameters can be stored in the local memory using the data logger function with a capacity of 100. All these data can be transferred to a PC computer to be processed further or to be included in measurement reports.

OPTICAL FIBRE 19 OPTICAL SPECTRUM ANALYSER: PROLITE-60 The first truly portable and economic analyser for WDM applications One of the priorities for the telecommunication operators is to make the already existing optical networks profitable. The first step to achieve that goal is to increase fibre capacity using more wavelengths simultaneously to carry information. In order to evaluate the quality of an optical signal in a fibre that carries more than one wavelength it is not enough with a power meter, for this type of equipment can not discriminate between two or more of the carriers. It becomes necessary to have test equipment that can guaranty the correct transmission of information in each one of the carriers, that is to say it requires an optical spectrum analyser. Adapted for operating in the field The optical spectrum analysers available until now have very high measurement capacity but they were very bulky and extremely expensive. In few words they were ideal for laboratory use but were lacking the charactristics required for measurements in the field. The PROLITE-60 changes the way to understand optical fibre measurements. PROMAX presents the PROLITE-60 portable optical spectrum analyser ready to work in extreme conditions. It has an internal battery that provides up to 4 hours operating time and is protected against ingress of water and dust.

20 OPTICAL FIBRE Easy to use Different parameters can be configured that substantially affect the form in which the measured signal is displayed such as the vertical or horizontal scales (or Span). For convenience, so that the user is aware at any time of the portion of the whole spectrum being displayed, the PROLITE-60 shows in a smaller window in the lower part of the screen as a Reference Display with indication of the whole spectrum and the part being magnified. SLED Option Optionally, the PROLITE-60 can be delivered with a SLED (Superluminiscent Light Emitting Diode) light source. These sources provide a light of a wide spectral content, covering a wavelength range of approximately 100 nm. The SLED option can be requested Special functions When a PROLITE-60 user needs to certify an optical fibre network or is working in a production line for optical devices it becomes essential to accelerate the measurement processes. The PROLITE-60 has a menu with several functions made specifically for most of the situations a user will encounter in everyday work. Spectrum area displayed for centre wavelengths of 1310 nm or 1550 nm thus being able to analyse the response of devices in both bands. The possibility to insert a known test signal into an optical fibre system can be very useful for certification purposes both for its active components as for the optical fibre itself. Thanks to the technology used in the design of the PROLITE-60 it is possible to add special functions at any time after the purchase. It is beacuse of these special functions the PROLITE-60 can make a great number of tests in a precise and automatic way. Trace memory A measurement can be stored in the memory for later display and comparison with the current measurement. Since the PROLITE-60 can be operated in the temperature range from 0º to 40º C this feature can be very useful for a number of applications. For instance, to observe the wavelength and power drift of a light source with changes of ambient temperature. It is possible to store up to 10 different traces.

OPTICAL FIBRE 21 WDM analysis Analysis of optical devices Working with a WDM optical network, both CWDM and DWDM types, it is vital to know constantly if all the carriers (LASER) involved are present and transmit at the expected wavelengths. There is a great number of active and passive components in addition to the optical fibre itself in any optical fibre network, even more now with FTTP (couplers, multiplexers, amplifiers, circulators, etc) that may require adjustments and can also be potential sources of errors in the network. With the SLED option the PROLITE-60 user can make the necessary adjustments of such optical components by inserting the reference test signal. By having the WDM function the PROLITE-60 can identify, automatically and inmediately all the carriers together with their power level and wavelength. Once all the carriers are identified it is possible to store the measurement data in a file to process and review at a later stage. In addition to the field applications the PROLITE-60 is an excellent option for optical equipment production lines. Custom functions for specific production needs are also available.

22 OPTICAL FIBRE Analysis of optical source quality (DFB & F.P.) Depending on the application (network size, capacity, budget, etc.) the optical fibre network operators have to decide what type of light sources need to be used and also what will be the homologation and maintenance procedures. Nowadays optical communication networks commonly use two types of LASER. The F.P. is used for short distances or LAN Local Area Networks and the D.F.B is used for long distance high capacity links. It is essential in both cases to ensure that the transmitters are operating properly. The PROLITE-60 offers two special functions designed for the testing of these two types of LASER in an automatic way. Self-calibration and firmware upgrade via Internet The PROLITE-60 has three types of communication ports (RS-232, parallel and Ethernet). These are of special interest as they provide high flexibility to upgrade the instrument's firmware via internet or PC connection. Thanks to these capabilities any additional function can be updated simply by connecting to Internet Web server Sometimes it is necessary to monitor optical fibre networks remotely. It is possible that an optical fibre system has to be monitored 24 hours a day or alternatively a system technician must travel long distances to be able to make the necessary measurements and analysis. Unwanted travelling can be also avoided thanks to the Web Server option since complete system control can be performed remotely.

MONITORING SYSTEMS 23 MONITORING SYSTEMS: PROWATCH Control of telecommunication networks PROWATCH is a new equipment line designed for the control of telecommunication systems with special features for radio and television broadcast networks. The system is extremely versatile and can be customised to match particular application requirements. The PROWATCH system is an ideal solution for the control of existing telecommunication platforms or as complement for the deployment of new networks such as digital terrestrial television, digital cable, DAB radio, FM, satellite, etc. It is made of one or more stations that permanently monitor the status of the signal at different locations and generate alarms to a central management system when unwanted conditions are encountered or measurements fall outside preset values. The PROWATCH is based on the SNMP protocol, being a management system that defines the instructions for communication and control of the network. All objects managed under the SNMP protocol are arranged in MIB databases. The PROWATCH manages these databases to obtain the desired type of network control. It covers remote control of the monitoring equipment, alarms Managing equipment generation and interaction with MIB databases. SNMP Requests Answers Alarms Integration into already existing control systems is Monitoring equipment 1 Monitoring equipment 2 Monitoring equipment N simple when using SNMP protocol.

24 MONITORING SYSTEMS SPECTRUM MONITORING: PROWATCH-DEIDE Detection and Identification of broadcasting signals The DEIDE is an application in the PROWATCH family where the equipment is used for the control of radio broadcast as well as analogue and digital television networks. They can be used in two main applications: the supervision of the quality of the network and the control of the radioelectromagnetic spectrum to detect and recognise the appearance of unwanted transmissions. MONITORING PROWATCH DEIDE is designed for the detection, automatic identification and monitoring of signals in the 5 to 2150 MHz range with remote control capabilities. The system is made up of one or several automated measurement stations. The equipment is available in rack and portable lockable suitcase formats, allowing a permanent and automatic control of the radio spectrum. Detection of new or unauthorised transmissions is possible thanks to permanent spectrum monitoring operating at the same times as signal quality verification. PROWATCH equipment produces alerts inmediately if any of the predefined limits are in any way exceeded. You can also view and listen to the video or audio of any of the channels being tested remotely from any device in the network.

MONITORING SYSTEMS 25 Applications * Real time control of the complete spectrum. * Detection and identification of legal carriers and unauthorised (illegal) transmissions. * Control of the reception quality of the broadcast signal on the basis of predefined limits. * Cost reduction and increased efficiency in the monitor and prosecution of illegal transmission by centralisation of the control system. * Support to television and radio broadcasters during migration from analogue to digital. * Legal prosecution evidence of illegal transmitting stations in specific or sensitive areas. How does it work? * The system sweeps the spectrum to obtain a sample that will be used as a reference under the name of Spectral Record. The system also produces the identity and type of each of the carriers in the Spectral Record. * During the Spectral Surveillance session the spectrum is continuously swept. * Each new sweep is compared automatically with the Spectral Record that was taken as a reference and also to the predefined quality limits and informs if: - A new carrier is detected. The system generates an alarm if it is not identified in the Spectral Record. - The level of one or several carriers varies beyond the allowed limits. The system registers the transmitter or transmitters affected and generates an alarm. Remote, local or manual control? At the beginning of the session the system offers the possibility to choose the remote control option. The system then connects to another PROWATCH via internet or TCP/IP protocol. Thus low quality signal or illegal transmission alarms are received having full 100% control even if the remote device is located thousands of kms away from the control centre. A GPS receiver is integrated in the PROWATCH to allow for association between measurements, generation of alarms and geographical locations. It is also possible to select the local operating mode and to carry out all measurements using the local equipment. Finally it is most practical to make measurements using the equipment s own keyboard in the manual mode.

26 MONITORING SYSTEMS PROWATCH system control centre Thanks to the remote control capabilities several PROWATCH devices can work independently from each other and be operated from a single control centre.

MONITORING SYSTEMS 27 Identification of the carriers detected in the band The full spectrum display, as well as a graph, representing the levels of the available carriers, is permanently on screen during the spectrum monitoring phase according to user defined settings. Following a colour code in the graph it is very easy to know the total number of channels in the band, the occupied channels and those with problems (unidentified transmission, low reception quality, etc). To select, tune and view. It is possible to access the service list of a digital multiplex and select the desired program. Broadcast programmes can be viewed and listened to via the built-in display and loudspeaker. In the remote control mode, it is possible to transmit the audio (VoIP) and the video (Video Streaming) and to supervise it from the control center. Total network supervision All equipment data used in the network must be stored in a database so that it can be controlled from any of the PROWATCH system. Every PROWATCH device will have a unique IP address and description name to allow for interconnection through the network.

28 SYSTEMS FOR PLC NETWORKS PROPOWER-5 PLC Spectrum Analyser PROPOWER-1 PLC Noise Generator PROPOWER-3 PLC Test Signal Generator SYSTEMS FOR PLC NETWORKS: PROPOWER For Power Line Communications systems installation and troubleshooting The new PROPOWER range consist of three basic devices, PLC Spectrum Analyser, Test Signal Generator and Noise Generator. All instruments have been designed for application in the field and their combined use allows for frequency response testing in PLC networks. The Power Line Communications technology (PLC) utilises the electrical distribution wires to transmit data. Using to this technology it is possible to build local area networks or establish connections to broadband services (Broadband Powerline, BPL) using the mains distribution wires. Using the electrical distribution network for data communications presents frequent technical problems that are difficult to identify without suitable test equipment. The electrical wires were designed originally for the distribution of electrical energy using alternating current (AC) at frequencies of 50 or 60 Hertz and were not designed for higher frequencies. Another of the problems of using this technology is the noise induced in the network by household appliances that can cause disturbance to the PLC signal. The PROPOWER range can be used for the analysis of the network frequency response and to identify sources of interference and noise. The equipment is also useful for other applications using signals modulated in the frequency band up to 50 MHz. For example domestic applications or automatic meter reading (AMR) systems.

WIRELESS NETWORK ANALYSER 29 In the last few years the deployment of Ethernet wireless area networks, has experienced a very important growth. Their ease of development and access comfort makes them very attractive. This new technology requires the use of new test tools for installation as well as troubleshooting. WIRELESS NETWORK ANALYSER: PROFI-70 Wi-Fi Network coverage analyser Wireless networks One of the challenges of wireless local area networks is that since they operate in a licence free frequency band the interference with other services can be difficult to control. It is therefore essential in the development of this new technology to have test equipment that can be used simultaneously for coverage analysis and prediction of potential conflicts among different networks thus to analyse the complaints from the system users. The PROFI-70 makes possible an efficient deployment of the wireless networks by allowing for the analysis of the levels of the various channels as well as the identification of the MAC addresses involved. Security in the networks To connect to a wireless area network can be very simple. The networks themselves generate beacon signals to facilitate accessibility. Any client with a WiFi b or g card in their computer can access the network. Of course this open conception is also exposed to attacks to the network from unwanted computers which just need to be operating close by. The PROFI-70 can also be used to determine the system security level and to detect the presence of intruders in the area.

ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD MONITOR 31 The MG-626 is a portable instrument that allows for permanent real time monitoring of electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields, at low and high frequencies. It has a range of isotropic sensors to measure in the frequency range from 5 Hertz to 60 GHz. It can be used with a PC computer or a Pocket PC in applications such as personal health and safety and the protection of people in public and private environments. ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD MONITOR: MG-626 Protection of the environment Atmospheric contamination is one of the more important risk factors for the environment. The threat to the ozone layer, the excess of acoustic noise, the radiation of high voltage cables or the exposition to electromagnetic radiation caused by antennas can have a negative influence on our health. PROECO is the new PROMAX range of equipment for permanent monitoring of the environment. frequency fields, ozone (O3), CO2, NOX, benzene, meteorological data (temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation), noise, ultraviolet, pressure, SO, etc... We at PROMAX are committed to the protection of the environment and we want to become a reference for public and private organisations in this field. With our developments we help the public administration to adopt preventative and corrective measures for environmental protection to achieve a sustainable industrial and urban development. The PROECO acquisition system can be used to measure different environmental polluting agents by selecting the suitable probes: electromagnetic low and high
