4 Touch Icons Snapshot icon captures the present screen. If a report is open it will append the snapshot to the report, otherwise, the snapshot is stored as a bmp file. Pressing the mini report icon will bring up the mini report start screen. Pressing the mini report capture icon after that will place captured screen images into the report. Help Icon provide help with instrument settings and operation relative to the present screen. 14 Direct Ethernet Connection Probably the easiet connection method. Requires either a cross-over cable or a hub/switch. Static IP addresses must be set in the HDPQ and the PC. Third party VNC software required. 27 Ethernet Direct IP Connection Make certain that the ethernet address is as shown. Gateway and DNS server addresses not required for direct connection. Gateway and DNS would be required to get data through switches and routers. Use local Area Connection properties to assign a static IP in the PC. Use an address that is close to the HDPQ address. Suggested address is IP Address: Subnet Mask: Default Gateway: DO NOT use DHCP for either HDPQ or the PC. 28

15 Two free VNC controllers are: RealVNC TightVNC Use the IP address of the HDPQ for the VNC server address. Use Dranetz for the VNC server authentication. Screens from the HDPQ should be visible on the PC. The PC can now control the HDPQ. Launch VNC 29 Other Communication Options The other communications options will no doubt require IT support. Bluetooth works with an App on a mobile device. Third party VNC software still required. 30

16 Screen shows active memory locations. Obvious functions such as close, delete highlighted memory or delete all. Archive to USB (with thumb drive installed in HDPQ). 18 Real Time Data From the alternate main menu screen select Scope Meter Harmonics Phasor Real Time Scope Mode Scope mode can be set for overlay, stacked by phase and stacked by voltage and current. 36

19 Real Time Scope Mode Options Channels may be selected for each scope display. Voltage and current range can be checked. 37 Real Time Dial Meters Meters provide visual and tabular data. Dial meters show the status of voltage and current data. 38

22 Real Time - Harmonics Only one parameter can be displayed at a time. Bar graph data can be zoomed horizontally and vertically. Normalized Vs Un-Normalized just changes the phase angle reference. 43 Real Time Strip Chart Data is updated every 3 seconds. Window is 10 minutes wide. When the 10 minute window is full, the oldest data will be discarded and new data plotted. Clear discards all present data new data will then be acquired and plotted.

25 Auto Detect - PQ & Energy/Demand Power Quality and Energy/Demand use the same auto detect system to configure the monitor. Thresholds and waveform capture are automatically set by the monitor. 49 Auto Detect Scope & Phasors Auto detect shows circuit configuration. Once the auto detect is finished, phasor display can be check to verify that polarities are correct. Scope displays real time waveforms. 50

26 Auto Setup - PQ & Energy/Demand If current is desired, then enable current probes and select the correct type. Check the setup summary to verify that settings are what is needed. Press green start button to bring up the next monitoring mode screen. The procedure is the same for PQ and Energy/Demand. 51 Wizard Setup Wizard setup provides step by step control of monitoring processes. Scope and phasors can be viewed directly.

27 Wizard Probes & Scaling 53 Wizard Wiring Configuration Wiring configuration wizard detects circuit. One can manually set the wiring configuration. Configuration screen shows wiring diagram and phasors. 54

28 Wizard Nominal & Frequency Computed values may vary if the monitor is configured in advance. Profile indicates whether tracking will be standard for normal utility monitors, fast for local generators, or internal.\ Standard tracking has a tight frequency tolerance and slow response (0.01Hz/second). Selecting Fast tracking (0.1Hz/second) will change the tracking range. 55 Wizard Monitor Modes If current probes are not enabled, then Inrush and Motor Quality will be grayed out. PQ can be monitored by IEEE or IEC definitions. The threshold for an interruption in IEEE Std 1159 is 10% of nominal while in IEC it is 1% of nominal. Fault recorder is voltage triggered and will record voltage disturbances sequentially. There are many more monitoring modes available in Wizard than in the Auto Mode. 56

29 Wizard Trigger Limits Every sub category must be used to fully take advantage of the monitors abilities. Wizard Trigger Limits - RMS ABC does not group channel D normally D is used for N/G. Percentage of nominal (% nominal) is an easy way to set limits if given voltage range in percentage. Current limits are set separately. 58

30 Wizard Waveform Capture Default is to only capture waveforms for the trigger channel voltage or current. Simultaneous cross channel waveform capture regardless of the trigger channel. All channels and channel D is the preferred configuration to capture everything possible associated with an event. 59 Wizard Timed Intervals Timed intervals can be reduced to improve data granularity. Waveform snapshot is important because waveforms not associated with a trigger are captured and therefore may better reflect normal conditions. Flicker is measured to European standards.

31 Wizard Journal Limits Journal limits provides an ability to perform threshold driven logging functions. Unless there is a specific function that is desired, the best practice is to disable all. Otherwise, the many, many journal entries will eat monitor memory. Wizard Peak Transients Peak transient captured with the 512 sample per cycle digitizer. ABC the same for voltage and current. Channel D is set separately. Check Enable Automatic Limit Incrementing to set limit trigger channel settings to autothreshold mode. Set Pre/Post capture. Default is 2 cycle pre and post. Set the same as RMS provides continuity of waveform capture. 62

32 Wizard Waveform Transient Waveform transient is really waveshape difference. It is useful in detecting notches in waveforms. This feature can also eat up memory very rapidly. Automatic limit incrementing is recommended unless the feature is disabled. Again, one must set Pre/Post waveform capture if longer pre or post capture is desired. 63 Wizard - Set RMS DIFF Transients RMS deviation detects changes in RMS content from the present cycle to the previous cycle. Again, in dynamic environments this feature can fill memory rapidly. Automatic limit incrementing can reduce memory fill. This is a great feature to capture changes in RMS current associated with equipment cycling. It can also detect the effects of harmonic voltages or currents because the RMS content changes. As usual, one must change pre/post capture if wider capture is desired. 64

33 Wizard HF Transients The high frequency transient detection algorithm calculates the rms energy of the waveform in an 80 usec window (not including the low frequency signal) and compares that value against the threshold to determine if a trigger occurred. If so, the prior 80 usec window, the triggered window, and three past 80 usec windows are saved. If triggers occur in every window, up to 1 cycle worth of data is saved. For high frequency transients, only a maximum of 1 cycle of data is saved. High frequency transients are captured with the 1MS/second digitizer. It does not work on channel D. Cross channel triggering does not work. There is no user selectable pre/post waveform capture. This feature is only available on Xplorer and Xplorer Start/stop on specified time and date is very valuable for efficiency studies. The kwh values of a transformer or UPS can be accumulated. 34 Wizard Start Monitoring At the end of the Wizard setup, the monitor can be used as monitor or as a meter. Other Wizard Monitoring Modes

35 Wizard - Inrush 69 Wizard Fault Recorder Fault recorder is voltage trigger oriented. Default pre/post cycle capture is much longer than normal. Essentially, the voltage fault recorder will capture an event and then rearm and wait for the next trigger. 70

36 Energy & Demand Audits Billing Cycle has a calendar that allows one to select the start Day & Month. Click on Start of Week to toggle through the days of the week. User enters carbon footprint the software does not provide a default. CO2 units toggles between lb CO2 and Kg CO2. Demand units toggles between Watts, VA & Var. User enters billing rate there is no default value. Billing current toggles between USD and Euro. Long Term Timed Reading Set the instrument to use periodic measurements only. This setting is used for longterm statistical studies and benchmarking field-based equipment testing and evaluation. No triggers are set so only trended values are available. You can enable waveform snapshot but that does take up memory. 72

37 Continuous Data Logging Sets the instrument to log rms and power values once per second until memory is filled or for a specified time period. 73 Voltage Compliance The Quality of Supply is an analysis of the voltage per EN50160 which specifies that various parameters must be within a specified percentage for 95% of the time. The seven parameters required by EN to determine QOS compliance are: Power Frequency, Supply Voltage Variations, Rapid Voltage Changes, Supply Voltage Unbalance, Harmonic Voltage, Interharmonic Voltage, and Mains Signaling. EN50160 Strict Compliance monitoring is selected by default. Press to enable/disable miscellaneous option Islanded. Islanded means isolated from the power grid. Islanded is disabled by default, indicating that the system being monitored is synchronized to the grid.

39 Trend Plot Initial Screen Click on trend plot to bring up a time referenced plot of RMS data. At the top of the pane to the right of the Dranetz symbol are four icons. The icons are for: Trend plot Event list RMS plot of multiple trends Waveform of selected event. 77 Normal trend plot does not autozoom. Click on Zoom to Data to fill the screen. Trend plot with markers shows event relative to trend plot data. Markers are active and can be used to view data. Trend Plots 78

40 Trend Plot Event Markers Click on details to get numeric data for the event. Click on the sine wave symbol at the top of the pane to see the waveforms for the event. 79 Event List Event list shows a listing of all recorded events. Highlight an event and the RMS plot and waveform plot become available. 80

41 Event filters allows one to look at specific times or for specific types of events. Event Filters 81 Waveforms Plots Event plot provides a multiple channel plot of an event. Waveform plot with values allows measurement of a waveform by moving the cursor across the waveform. 82

42 Available Reports The mini-report button beneath the main screen can be used to begin a mini-report. Simply enter a name for the report and click OK. The mini-report can be sent to the USB port. Snapshots will be appended to the report. Mini-Report 84
