1 Lucent Technologies Data Sheet , Issue 2 AnyMedia Access System FAC500( ) (IO_E1) E1 Interface Unit SLL4BC0 (FAC500B) 1 Overview The E1 Interface unit FAC500( ) (IO_E1) is an E1 line interface card. Hardware on the card includes line interface and framer circuits for four E1 ports, a backplane interface, and a digital signal processor (DSP). The card communicates with other portions of the AnyMedia Access System through the backplane interface. This interface carries PCM and signalling data from the FAC500( ) over the Concentration Highway Interface (CHI). The backplane also supports a general purpose asynchronous 256 kbit/s serial channel. This channel is used for system command and parameter communications. Figure 1 depicts the plug-in faceplate, Table 1 lists the functions and colors of LED indicators. The jumper settings for the impedance of the E1 interfaces are shown in Figure 2, Table 2 contains the power consumption of the plug-in. 2 Features and Functions The FAC500( ) plug-in: Provides four independent E1 interfaces Supports simplex and duplex COMDAC operation Provides transmit pulse shaping as defined in G.703 Monitors the performance of the received E1 signals (error performance thresholds) Sources and monitors alarm indication signal (AIS) and remote alarm indication (RAI) Extracts reference timing from received E1 signals Provides E1 loopbacks Supports inventory data (08.00) 1

2 Includes built-in self-tests (BISTs) and fault diagnostics Supports pack protection switching for future releases. 3 Description The AnyMedia shelf allows equipage for up to five FAC500( ) plug-ins. Four FAC500( ) plug-ins are used in release 1.1. The empty slot is optionally provided to support FAC500( ) pack protection for future releases. Each FAC500( ) can provide four E1s, allowing shelf configuration of the 16 E1s in various services (V5.1, V5.2, permanent leased lines). The FAC500B supports in addition V3 ISDN PRA. The 1N sized FAC500( ) contains the quad E1 interface and the quad framer function. In addition the plug-in contains a microcontroller (communications and control) and a 5V power module. The controller handles OAM&P tasks for the E1s and the pack itself, controlled via the UART link. The plug-in contains resident firmware and is not software downloadable. It is possible to select an interface impedance of 120 Ω or 75 Ω. It is only possible to use the same setting for all E1 interfaces, therefore all jumpers must have the same position. The headers have three pins. If the jumpers are installed between Position Ω interface impedance is selected Position Ω interface impedance is selected Figure 2 shows the location of the jumpers on the circuit pack (08.00) 3
