2 1. About the module DSP Voice Processor 2 is a compact PCB module indented for voice equalization. The compact size (only 29x29mm) allows it to be installed direct to the hand mike as Yaesu MH-31 for example. It is compatible typically with any transceiver like Yaesu (FT-817, FT-857, FT-897, FT-450/D, FTdx-1200, FTdx-3000 and so on) or Elecraft K2 (special pre-programmed Plug And Play version is available)! Main functions is: - 8 band bi-quad filter equalizer; - Built-in voice AGC with programmable gain, output level and time constants; - Fast and linear Noise Gate feature with programmable parameters; - 3D effect with programmable depth and delay; - Two instant switching settings profile; - Two independent mike inputs: one for condenser mike and one for dynamic mike; - Wide dynamic range output attenuator from 0 (maximim) to -72dB (minimum) MS Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8) programming software with drivers package is available. All the settings stored in the internal flash of DSP processor. Module can be powered from the power which routed to the transceiver microphone connector.

3 2. DSP Voice Processor 2 signals. OUT (ground) Profile OUT + ELECTRET MIC PWR - DYN MIC MIC GND PWR + DSP Voice Prosessor module is intented for direct installation into Yaesu MH-31 hand mic. It uses internal +5V power of the mic connector. Signals name and description: PWR +, PWR - Power. Red +, Black - ; Profile For instant settings profile switching. It is pulled up to the internal module power via 10kOhm resistor. Pull this signal to ground to select Profile 2 and leave it unconnected to select Profile 1; OUT +, OUT - Audio output. Green Audio output, Black Audio ground should be connector to the common ground; ELECTRET MIC Electret microphone input; DYN MIC Dynamic microphone input; MIC GND Microphone ground;

4 3. Programmable parameters and settings. Output gain Programmable output attenuator. Values from 0 to -72dB. Mic select Mic type selection. ELEC electret type (comes with DSP Voice Processor 2); DYN dynamic type. AGC enable Mic AGC on/off. Max. gain If mic AGC is enabled this setting defines maximum AGC gain applied to the selected mic input and defines the audio compression level. If mic AGC is disabled this parameter defines linear mic gain of the selected mic input; Target level Mic AGC target level. The level which AGC is trying to achieve during mic signal amplification. -10dB is recommended normal setting.

5 Attack time AGC attack time. Time needed to decrease AGC gain in case of input mic level become high. 8ms is normal setting. Decay time Time needed to increase AGC gain in case of input mic level become low. 100mS is normal setting. Noise threshold Noise level at which Noise Gate is active (mute audio output). Hysteresis level Noise Gate hysteresis. This setting needed to prevent Noise Gate cycle switching. 3dB is normal setting. Detection debounce time Noise Noise detection delay. Detection debounce time Signal Voice signal detection delay. Clip stepping Normally this setting is not used. If enabled mic ADC (Analog to Digital Converted) will decrease its gain each cycle by 0.5dB to prevent ADC overload. Echo depth Echo effect depth (10 to 30% is normal setting). Echo delay Echo effect delay.

6 4. Using with ELECRAFT K2 To achieve good audio sounding make a SSBA = 1 and SSBС = 1-1 settings in your rig. Control mic gain by Output gain and Max Gain of the DSP Voice Processor Using with Yaesu FT-8x7 rigs Make a SSB MIC gain from 10 to 15. Control mic gain by Output gain and Max Gain of the DSP Voice Processor Using with Yaesu FTdx-1200/3000 rigs Set SSB MIC level in range from 10 to 15, compressor to Technical parameters. Supply voltage from 3.5 to 15V DC; Constant DC current 25mA; PCB Dimensions 29x29mm.

7 Yaesu MH-31 installation. Reassemble Yaesu MH-31. For that unscrew two short and one long screws. Remove PCB. Unscrew three little screws. Unsolder from PCB dynamic capsule (white and brown). Find C1 capacitor and R1 resistor. Remove it carefully. Unsolder two tinned wires from Tone ½ switch SW5; Do not overheat contacts of SW5! Left contact of SW5 solder by a wire to 2 nd contact of RJ-45. Left contact SW5 Right contact Remove Middle contact R1 C1 Connect left contact of SW5 with 2nd contact of RJ-45 connector. RJ-45 SW

8 DSP Voice Processor comes with 1500uF electrolytic condenser. Place this condenser between SW5 switch and RJ-45 connector. Bend capacitor contacts to other side of PCB. SW5 + _ 1500uF Profile RJ-45 Bend capacitor contacts to other side of PCB. Prolong capacitor Plus contact by a wire and solder it to 6 th contact of RJ-45 connector. Minus contact of the capacitor solder to 2 nd contact of RJ-45 connector, Capacitor Plus Capacitor Minus SW5 switch Solder signal Profile to the middle contact of SW5 switch. Solder PWR signals to 2 nd and 6 th contacts of the RJ-45 connector. PWR + Red PWR - Black

9 OUT+ and OUT- signals solder to the microphone pads. PTT signal solder to the 3 rd contact of the RJ-45 connector. Short by a solder contacts of the former C1 holes. OUT + Green OUT - Black Solder short С1 holes Assemble back Yaesu MH-31.
