You may use the same grounding point as the aftermarket radio. 2) Connect the Red wire of the ASWC-TOY-LEX to a 12 volt accessory wire, one that turns on and off with the ignition key. 3) Depending on the vehicle you are in connect either the 6-pin or 12-pin connector to the mating vehicle harness. To radio 1) For the radios below, plug the included female 3.5mm connector with the Brown and Brown/White wires into the male 3.5mm connector of the ASWC-TOY-LEX harness. For eclipse radios: Connect the Eclipse steering wheel control wires (normally Brown and Brown/Black) to the Brown and Brown/White wires of the ASWC-TOY-LEX. Brown of the ASWC-TOY-LEX goes to the Brown/Black of the Eclipse and Brown/White of the ASWC-TOY-LEX goes to the Brown of the Eclipse. For Metra oe: Connect the SWC Key 1 wire (Grey) to the Brown wire of the ASWC-TOY-LEX. Isolate and tape the Brown/White wire, it will not be used. For Kenwood or select JVC s with a Blue/yellow steering wheel control wire: Connect the Kenwood/JVC steering wheel control wire to the Brown wire of the ASWC-TOY-LEX. Isolate and tape the Brown/White wire, it will not be used. 2

3 Installation Note: Some of the newer Kenwood radios will auto detect as a JVC. If this is the case, use the included 12k ohm resistor in line between the Blue/Yellow and Brown wire of the female 3.5mm jack during programming only (remove resistor once programmed). Or you can manually set the radio type which is in the Manually Changing Radio Type section. 2) For Parrot asteroid smart or Tablet: Connect the ASWC-TOY-LEX male 3.5mm jack into the AX-SWC-PARROT (sold separately) female 3.5mm jack and plug the 4-pin end into the corresponding SWC plug on the radio. Note: AX-SWC-PARROT required (sold separately) and radio must be updated to rev or higher. 3) For all other radios: Plug in the male 3.5mm connector of the ASWC-TOY-LEX into the back of the aftermarket radio, designated for an external steering wheel control interface. Please refer to the aftermarket radios manual if you are in doubt where the 3.5mm connector of the ASWC-TOY-LEX goes. 4) Once all connections have been made, plug in the aftermarket radio if not done already. Programming The ASWC-TOY-LEX will auto program itself through Auto Detect Mode. 1) Turn the ignition on and wait until the LED on the ASWC-TOY-LEX goes solid (about twenty seconds). Note: Do not press any buttons on the steering wheel or radio during this time. Programming 2) Once solid, the ASWC-TOY-LEX should be working. Note: The ASWC-TOY-LEX will give you two sets of LED feedback reports. The first set of flashing green LED lights is for knowing the vehicle type and the second set of red flashing LED lights is for knowing the radio type. Knowing the vehicle type is irrelevant as this interface is pre-programmed for vehicles in the application list only. But knowing the radio type is important for troubleshooting if the ASWC-TOY-LEX does not work. Please see the below Radio Legend for LED feedback information for radio type. Troubleshooting 1) Confirm that the 3.5mm connector is connected to your radio securely and in the correct location. 2) If using the female 3.5mm connector in Eclipse, Kenwood, select JVC, or Metra OE radios, verify that the radio s steering wheel control wire is connected to the correct wire to the ASWC-TOY-LEX. Note: Not every radio will have all the possible SWC commands on the steering wheel. Please refer to the radio owner s manual or contact the radio vendor for specific commands that the radio will recognize. 3

4 Manually changing radio type 1) After 3 seconds of turning the key on, press and hold the car s VOLUME DOWN button until the LED goes on solid. 2) Release the VOLUME DOWN button. The LED will go off indicating we are now in radio programming mode. 3) Press and release the VOLUME UP button for the desired radio number (Please refer to the ASWC-TOY-LEX legend below). For each press the LED will go on, then off when released. 4) Once the desired radio number has been selected, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button until the LED goes on solid. The LED will remain on for about 3 seconds while it stores the new radio information. 5) The LED will now go off indicating it s completed and finished. Note: If at any time the user fails to press any button for a period of 10 seconds, this process will abort. Manually changing radio type Radio legend 1st LED flash is for Eclipse (type 1) 2nd LED flash is for Kenwood 3rd LED flash is for Clarion (type 1) 4th LED flash is for Sony and Dual 5th LED flash is for JVC 6th LED flash is for Pioneer & Jensen 7th LED flash is for Alpine* 8th LED flash is for Visteon 9th LED flash is for Valor 10th LED flash is for Clarion (type 2) 11th LED flash is for Metra OE 12th LED flash is for Eclipse (type 2) 13th LED flash is for LG 14th LED flash is for PARROT Note: AX-SWC-PARROT required (sold separately). Radio must be updated to rev or higher. Note: If you have a Clarion radio and the ASWC-TOY-LEX will not work, try the other Clarion radio type. Same with Eclipse. 4

5 Remapping the SWC buttons Let s say you have the ASWC-TOY-LEX programmed to your radio and you want to change the button assignment for the steering wheel controls. For instance you would like SEEK UP to be MUTE. Note: Turning off the radio is recommended. 1) Make sure the ASWC-TOY-LEX visible so you can see the LED flashes to confirm button recognition. 2) Within the first 20 seconds of turning the ignition on, press and hold down the VOLUME UP button until the LED goes solid. Button assignment legend 1. Volume Up 6. Mute 2. Volume Down 7. Preset Up 3. Seek Up/Next 8. Preset Down 4. Seek Down/Prev 9. Power 5. Source/Mode 10. Band 11. Play/Enter 12. PTT (Push to Talk) 13. On Hook 14. Off Hook 3) When the LED lights up solid, release the VOLUME UP button and the LED will go out. VOLUME UP has now been programmed. 4) Follow the list in the Button Assignment Legend below to reference the order in which the steering wheel controls buttons need to be programmed. Note: If the next function on the list is not on the steering wheel press the VOLUME UP button for 1 second, until the LED comes on, then release the button. This will tell the ASWC-TOY-LEX that function is not available and it will move on to the next function. 5) After the last button is programmed on your steering wheel, hold down the VOLUME UP button until the LED goes out. Or, after the 18th button is programmed or skipped the LED will go out and the remapping is completed. Resetting the swc Buttons back to default 1) Turn the ignition on, and wait three seconds. 2) Press the reset button for three seconds, or until the LED starts flashing fast. 3) Once flashing fast, wait until the LED on the ASWC-TOY-LEX goes solid (about twenty seconds). Note: Do not press any buttons on the steering wheel or radio during this time. 4) Once solid, the ASWC-TOY-LEX is reset and should be working with default settings. 5
