5 Introduction BreezeACCESS EZ is a high capacity, IP services oriented Broadband Wireless Access system. BreezeACCESS EZ is part of the BreezeACCESS family, one of the most widely deployed broadband wireless access systems in the world. With capacity of up to 23 Mbps per Access Unit, the EZ solution enables the delivery of powerful broadband services to more subscribers. With a range of up to 12 Km and lower equipment and deployment costs, BreezeACCESS EZ enables service providers to wirelessly extend their services to customers who were previously unable to afford them, while securing rapid ROI. Remote residential areas can now benefit from high-speed Internet access, Web browsing and e- mail, and advanced applications such as multi-media services. BreezeACCESS EZ can support sensitive applications through authentication and/or data encryption utilizing WEP algorithm with 152-bit encryption. BreezeACCESS EZ product operates in 5GHz frequency bands in Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode, using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation with Forward Error Correction (FEC) coding. Using the enhanced multi-path resistance capabilities of OFDM modem technology, BreezeACCESS EZ enables operation in near-line-of-sight (NLOS) environments. These qualities enable service providers to reach a previously inaccessible and broader segment of the subscriber population. BreezeACCESS EZ Access Unit is currently available in the following frequency bands: 5.2 GHz Band: GHz 5.3 GHz Band: GHz 5.4 GHz Band: GHz 5.8 GHz Band: GHz The BreezeACCESS EZ CPEs supports the entire range from to GHz with automatic frequency detection. In addition the CPE s enables fast and simple plug-andplay installation using its Web interface. Page 5 of 17

6 System Architecture General A BreezeACCESS EZ based system consists of the following: The Base Station Equipment (BS) BreezeACCESS EZ Access Units and supporting equipment. The Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) BreezeACCESS EZ Subscriber Units. Networking Equipment standard switches/routers supporting connections to the Internet. Base Station Equipment The Access Unit provides all the functionality necessary to communicate with the Subscriber Units and to connect to the backbone of the Service Provider. The standalone AU-EZ Access Unit includes the following components: Indoor Unit (IDU) Outdoor Unit (ODU) The IDU connects to the network through a standard IEEE Ethernet 10/100BaseT (RJ 45) interfaces and is powered from the 110/220 VAC mains. The IDU is connected to the ODU via a Category 5 Ethernet cable. This cable carries Ethernet traffic between the indoor and the outdoor units, and also transfers power (54 VDC) and control from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit. The ODU outdoor unit contains the processing and radio modules and connects to an external antenna Ordered separately - using a short RF cable. Subscriber Unit The Outdoor SU-A-EZ is a wireless client CPE that provides a connection to a remote AU-EZ Access Unit. The SU-A-EZ operates as an IEEE a wireless client, providing a high-speed wireless link between two sites that can be up to 12 Km apart. The SU-A-EZ Subscriber Unit includes the following components: Indoor Unit (IDU) Outdoor Unit (ODU) The IDU connects to the network through a standard IEEE Ethernet 10/100BaseT (RJ 45) interfaces and is powered from the 110/220 VAC mains. The IDU is connected to the ODU via a Category 5 Ethernet cable. This cable carries Ethernet traffic between the indoor and the outdoor units, and also transfers power (54 VDC) from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit. The ODU outdoor unit contains the processing and radio modules and includes an integrated high-gain antenna. The ODU is housed in a weatherproof enclosure for Page 6 of 17

7 mounting outdoors and includes its own bracket for attaching to a pole, radio mast, or tower structure. The SU-EZ CPEs supports all frequencies from to GHz with automatic frequency detection, enabling fast and simple plug-and-play installation. The SU-A-EZ can be managed through an easy-to-use web interface, CLI, or SNMP. Networking Equipment The base station equipment is connected to the backbone through standard data communication and telecommunication equipment. The 10/100BaseT ports of the access unit modules can be connected directly to a multi-port router or to an Ethernet switch connected to a router. The point-to-point link from the base station to the backbone may be wired or wireless links. The data to the Internet is routed to the Internet backbone through standard routers. Page 7 of 17
