4 Compact High-Performance Spectrum Analyzer Function The MS8911B digital broadcast field analyzer features a high-performance spectrum analyzer function supporting 100 khz to 7.1 GHz as standard equipment in a compact battery-operated unit. For Measurement at R&D and Manufacturing This field analyzer has a full range of functions like sweep span, sweep trigger, resolution bandwidth and video bandwidth. It can be used as a high-performance spectrum analyzer for R&D and manufacturing. Also, because it is battery operated, the side-band noise of the power line can be measured (Figure 2). For Field Use Figure 2: Measurement of Side-band Noise of Power Line The MS8911B wide-range function shorten field measurement times, while covering a wide range of frequencies and signal level (Figure 1). Users can save measured data to internal memory. Figure 1: Simultaneous Measurement of Both Small Signals and Carriers Other Features High-speed sweeping (900 ms: full-band, 50 µs: Zero Span) Maximum input level: +43 dbm (20 W) Drawing standard line Multi-marker Noise marker counter marker (The frequency of the set marker point can be read with 1-Hz resolution) One-touch measurement function (channel power 1, field strength 1, occupied frequency bandwidth, adjacent channel leakage power, C/I: carrier vs. interference) AM/FM Demodulation function External control tool (external control software with Ethernet or USB) Local language support (English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Chinese, Spanish) 1: Method with spectrum measurement 4
5 Digital Broadcast Wave Measurement MS8911B-030 ISDB-T Analysis Software MS8911B-030 ISDB-T analysis software analyzes various the signals in terrestrial digital broadcasts (ISDB-T). This is very useful for surveying terrestrial digital broadcast coverage and for installing and maintaining ISDB-T equipment. Measurement and Test Items Terminal voltage, channel power and field strength Delay profile MER, constellation monitor, frequency measurement Transmission spectrum mask adaptability test, occupied frequency bandwidth Spurious Phase-noise Detection of transmission parameter (Mode, GI, TMCC information) Delay Profile Measurement This function measures the difference in the timing and level of multi-path signals caused by reflection or diffraction. By measuring the in-channel frequency response, the impact of multi-path and frequency selective fading can be observed. This is useful for adjusting the delivery timing of the network relaying the broadcast wave. Terminal Voltage/ Power, Field Strength Measurement By using digital signal processing technique (DSP), the user can measure terminal voltage, CH power and field strength (dbµv/m) with accurately converted antenna factor. Values can be measured for 13 segment or for only 1 segment at the center of 13 segments. The measurement result is displayed as a bar graph and the high-visibility display is ideal for adjusting the optimum reception antenna angle. Delay Profile Measurement Field Strength Measurement 5
6 MER/Constellation/ Measurement The MER measurement function, which evaluates the modulation signal quality of digital broadcast wave directly and quantitatively, is essential for managing signal margin, and equipment aging deterioration and for maintaining a stable broadcast service. The constellation monitor function is useful for analyzing the condition of the received signal by monitoring the modulation symbol movement. Moreover, this function measures the center frequency in the OFDM modulation status very accurately, using advanced DSP. Using these features, broadcast frequencies can be monitored while broadcasting is serviced. Spurious Measurement Using the spurious measurement function, spurious frequency, absolute level, and relative level can be displayed together. Spurious Measurement MER/ Constellation/ Measurement Transmission Spectrum Mask Adaptability Test/ Occupied Bandwidth Measurement The adaptability of the transmission spectrum mask ARIB STD B31-compliant can be tested. Together with this, the user can measure the occupied bandwidth and calculate the safety margin of the spectrum waveform for the standard line and its frequency position. Phase Noise Measurement/ Measurement of Deflection and CW Wave This instrument can measure the phase noise of the CW signal (no modulation), such as at a broadcast station oscillator. Also, the result of integrating the noise power can be output to the phase noise measurement graph. Additionally, the CW wave frequency and frequency deflection can be measured. Phase Noise Measurement Measurement of Transmission Spectrum Mask Adaptability Test 6
7 Easy-of-Use Field measurement is severely limited by time, place and the user s skill level. The MS8911B-030 ISDB-T Analysis Software makes operation easy even for beginners. This instrument has the following three operation modes, supporting every skill level. Easy External Control Control over Ethernet using an external controller is supported, permitting. Automatic measurement or data acquisition. Controller 10BASE-T Crossing cable Ethernet Connector Using presets the operator can analyze each signal just by specifying the broadcast channel to measure. Custom The following software must be installed in the controller. The user can optionally set each measurement condition and analyze each signal by specifying the broadcast channel to measure. Batch The user can specify multiple broadcast channels and measurement items that have been pre-registered. The results are saved to internal memory. Software NI-VISA Application Software Outline National Instruments VISA library. VISA is the measurement tool control communication library controlled by VXIplug & play Systems Allowance. Regardless of the communication media, this is the driver software to control the measurement tool. Get this software from National Instruments. This is the software for programming with Visual Basic and LabVIEW. Saving Measurement Data The measurement screen can be saved in JPEG format to the MS8911B internal memory. Using a compact flash card or USB flash drive, the user can save the data to external memory. By saving the measurement screen, the user can view the measurement conditions and waveform at a glance and also can paste the data into reports. Measurements can be saved in CSV format, too.
