2 The Satellite Design Project (SDP) What is the Satellite Design Project What have we done in past years What are we planning for next year Bruce Burlton (Carleton University) Satellite Design Project February / 12
3 What is the project A largely student run Design Project tasked with the Preliminary Design of a Space Vehicle. Several of the Lead Engineers have significant related Industrial Experience; the project runs much as it would in industry. In past years we have attracted a great deal of interest from industry, both in the satellite manufacturing sector and the user community. Several of our alumni have found employment in the space industry, sometimes as a direct result of the PDR presentations. If you want to work in space, come and see us. Bruce Burlton (Carleton University) Satellite Design Project February / 12
4 Previous Projects Over the past several years, we have worked projects, including: AEGIS was targeted at the Boreal Forest region of Canada (and by extension the World). NORSAT was a Northern Canada sovereignty and surveillance mission suggested by DRCD at Shirley Bay. The AEGIS used a single satellite, while NORSAT utilized a constellation of twelve satellites. Culprit was a Lunar Penetrator system, targeted at the Lunar South Pole in search of subsurface water. SISS was a satellite constellation designed to take visible spectrum stereo images of Earth EODM is a satellite designed to remove Space Debris from Low Earth Orbit Bruce Burlton (Carleton University) Satellite Design Project February / 12
