3 DLI-130 INTRODUCTION NEXT GENERATION BEAM STEERING After eight successful years, the next generation of Fohhn s award-winning LINEA FOCUS Beam Steering systems is presented with new, innovative features and digital audio input interfaces. First models to appear are the new DLI-130 and DLI-230. In the course of digitization, FOHHN is ensuring that its products are compatible with all digital audio networks. All new systems are therefore being equipped as standard with signal inputs for AES/EBU and for AIREA, the FOHHN audio network system. The systems are also optionally available with interfaces for DANTE or Optocore or, as before with analogue signal inputs. For FOHHN, the holistic integration of an audio system takes top priority. The company s FOCUS-SERIES offers a wide range of Beam Steering products: from compact line source speakers for conference rooms, lecture theatres or churches, and modular compact arrays that are ideal for theatres and concert halls, through to high performance concert sound systems for halls, arenas and open-air events. In short, FOHHN Beam Steering systems provide perfect sound reinforcement for venues of all sizes. FOHHN Beam Steering systems are consistently and exclusively developed in house. Any special components such as the multi-channel Class D amplifiers, digital signal processors, network technology, wooden housings, or flying and transport mechanics are manufactured in Germany, in accordance with the latest standards. This all results in: the highest quality, safety, sustainability and expandability. 5 DLI-130 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION With the DLI-130, FOHHN introduces one of the first representatives of a new generation of electronically steerable active loudspeaker systems. The system combines state-of-the-art Beam Steering Technology with digital compatibility. Like all new and upcoming FOCUS-SERIES models, the DLI-130 is equipped as standard with digital input interfaces and related product variants. DLI-130 AES for AES/EBU and AIREA DLI-130 DAN for DANTE DLI-130 OPT for Optocore DLI-130 ANA for analogue signal inputs The LINEA FOCUS DLI-130 is a high performance line source system, which can be electronically controlled and monitored. The system is equipped with eight state-of-the-art Class D amplifiers and DSP technology specially developed for this area of application, plus eight coated 4 long excursion drivers. This perfect balance of amplifier-, digital signal processor- and loudspeaker technology enables a maximum SPL of 124 db to be achieved. The loudspeaker s vertical beam dispersion characteristics can be intuitively controlled in real time using FOHHN AUDIO SOFT: The vertical beam width, ranging from 0 to 90, and vertical inclination angle, ranging from -40 to +40, can both be adjusted in precise 0.1 increments. This means that unwanted reflections from floors and ceilings can be avoided. The result: optimum levels of speech intelligibility, a pleasing sound image and excellent sound quality even in the most challenging acoustic conditions. Should greater low frequency sound pressure levels be required, the DLI-130 can be seamlessly combined with active or passive FOHHN subwoofers. Due to its slim, elegant design, the 130 cm long loudspeaker can be integrated almost invisibly into every kind of architectural setting: whether mounted flat against the wall (thanks to its electronic controllability) or installed in a recess. Its aluminium housing including the front grille is optionally available in all RAL Classic colours, or with a photorealistic surface design (FOHHN TEXTURE DESIGN). The DLI-130 has been developed for fixed installation applications, e.g. churches and cathedrals, congress halls and exhibition centres, airports and railway stations, theatres, TV studios, university lecture theatres and auditoria, conference rooms or museums. The following applies to all LINEA FOCUS models: The longer the loudspeaker, the longer its reach and the better its capacity for precise control of low frequencies. 5

9 DLI-130 INPUT INTERFACES The DLI-130 loudspeaker system is the first LINEA FOCUS product to be available in four variants with different input options: AES/EBU is the most common digital standard. This variant additionally enables connection of an AIREA Master module (via RJ-45). The DLI-130 AES is the cheapest product variant. Dante is a popular digital audio network. Audio data is transmitted over IP network. Dante offers complex audio routing possibilities. Redundant cabling (star-shaped) is possible. Optocore is a network that enables routing of control signals and audio signals via fibre optic cables. This permits long cable runs (e.g. as in airport installations). The signal transmission has extremely low latency. Optocore offers complex audio routing possibilities. Redundant cabling (ring-shaped) is possible. Analog The DLI-130 ANA offers the simplest connection option. Balanced analogue input signals will suffice. 9

11 DLI-130 BEAM STEERING TECHNOLOGY In audio technology, the term Beam Steering refers to the control of loudspeaker beams using electronics and software. The mechanical inclination of a loudspeaker, or complex curving of modular line array systems is therefore unnecessary. Using state-of-the-art digital amplifier- and DSP technology, sound sources that Iie closely together can be individually controlled. A sophisticated, specially developed algorithm enables the beam dispersion characteristics of the whole loudspeaker system to be specifically set. This allows the vertical inclination angle and beam width to be precisely controlled in real time, via software. As a rule: The longer the line source speaker, the lower the frequencies that can be included. All FOHHN FOCUS-SERIES loudspeakers work according to this principle. All components of an entire sound system can be controlled using the same software. The current version of FOHHN AUDIO SOFT enables the whole system to be configured in advance. Once at the venue, the parameter settings are then automatically transferred to the respective loudspeaker systems. The concept of Beam Steering 11

12 DLI-130 BEAM STEERING TECHNOLOGY SIDE LOBE FREE TECHNOLOGY Due to their design, both line source speakers and line arrays generate unwanted side lobes in their vertical beam dispersion path. These result from the distances between the individual loudspeaker chassis and the finite length of an array. LINEA FOCUS SYSTEMS are equipped with FOHHN SIDE LOBE FREE TECHNOLOGY: A specially developed algorithm effectively reduces the side lobes, resulting in fewer unwanted room reflections. As a consequence, speech intelligibility is improved and feedback stability is increased. TWO BEAM TECHNOLOGY FOHHN s in-house developed TWO BEAM TECHNOLOGY enables the generation of two separate beams with independently adjustable parameters. In each case, the full line length can be used for the beam s production. So when activating the second beam, its dispersion still covers the entire frequency range. For each beam, parameters such as the vertical inclination angle, beam width, acoustic centre position, level and high pass filter can all be separately configured. This enables an asymmetrical beam dispersion and targeted coverage of two completely separate audience areas (e.g. stalls and balcony). 13 DLI-130 FOHHN AUDIO SOFT LINEA FOCUS loudspeaker systems can be operated entirely via a single piece of intuitive control software: FOHHN AUDIO SOFT enables the central monitoring and control of all functions in networked FOHHN devices in real time. Using the FOHHN-NET control network, the software has access to all the loudspeakers and amplifiers within the whole audio system. The software s clear, graphic user interface enables speedy access to grouping functions and user DSP functions (such as volume control, routing, EQ or 100 user presets). In the Beam Steering section, users can set parameters that include, amongst others, beam width- and beam inclination angles, acoustic centre, high pass filtering, Two Beam Mode and Optimize (Side Lobe Free). They can also remotely monitor the audio signal-, hardware- and network status, as well as pilot tone presence, temperature and operating time. With the appearance of the LINEA FOCUS DLI-130, FOHHN AUDIO SOFT has acquired some new functions: These include access control via password protection, a configurable Auto Power Save function and the readout of tilt sensor data. Also, DSP functions are now available at the signal inputs. The new software version additionally allows simultaneous configuration of the Beam Steering parameters of several loudspeaker systems. FOHHN AUDIO SOFT is a control software for Windows computers. Connection between the DLI-130 AES or DLI-130 ANA and the control computer is via the use of either an NA-11 FOHHN-NET USB ADAPTER or NA-3 FOHHN-NET ETHERNET ADAPTER. The DLI-130 DAN and DLI-130 OPT are connected via Ethernet. 15 DLI-130 AES TENDER SPECIFICATION ELECTRONICALLY STEERABLE, ACTIVE LINE SOURCE SYSTEM WITH AES/EBU INPUTS Active line source system, which can be electronically controlled and monitored, with eight state-of-the-art CLASS D amplifiers and DSP technology specially developed for this field of application. The system is equipped with eight coated, 4 long excursion drivers. Use of neodymium chassis and an aluminium housing keeps the total weight of the unit, including electronics, down to just 9.4 kg. Ideally suited to the dynamic transmission of both speech and music, especially in acoustically challenging venues with lengthy reverberation times, or in demanding architectural settings. A perfect balance of amplifier-, loudspeaker- and DSP technology results in a max SPL of 124 db. The loudspeaker system has a wide frequency range of 60 Hz 17 khz. Its nominal horizontal dispersion angle is 110. The speaker s vertical beam width (which ranges from 0 to 90 ) and its vertical inclination angle (which ranges from -40 to +40 ) can both be adjusted in precise 0.1 increments, enabling extremely accurate orientation towards audience areas. For coverage of different audience levels, two separate beams can be generated that are independent of one another. Both beams include, among other things, separate high pass filtering. The acoustic centre of each beam can be moved along the full length of the line. An integrated algorithm effectively suppresses any unwanted side lobes in the beam s vertical dispersion range. The loudspeaker is also equipped with pilot tone monitoring for integration into an emergency evacuation system. Errors or malfunctions such as internal operating voltage errors, overheating, short circuits, missing pilot tone on both signal inputs (configurable), or network errors can all be monitored and displayed. (Each communication is acknowledged.) Notification and display of error messages is shown via fault message contact (relay 2 alternate), a red flashing LED (internally on the input board), as well as via status messages in the control software. Error messages can be read via RS-485 and Ethernet (using an optional adapter). The loudspeaker system also has configurable functions that include input switching contacts and Auto Power Save, as well as features such as a tilt sensor and password protected access control. The control, programming and monitoring of all functions and parameters can be done in real time using a single piece of dedicated software. Beam dispersion, sound pressure levels and frequency response are all graphically displayed. The software also enables control of an extensive range of DSP functions for input and output processing that include routing, volume, delay, limiter/compressor, noise gate, signal generator (output only). The loudspeaker system offers an adjustable overall delay of up to 340 m (1000 ms). The speaker has a lightweight aluminium enclosure with rounded sides and a black or white powder-coated finish. Optionally available in all RAL Classic colours, or with photorealistic textural designs. To protect the loudspeaker chassis and electronics, the enclosure is fitted with a ball impact resistant, highly sound permeable front grille made from powder-coated steel, with damp- and dust repellent acoustic fleece behind. 12 M6 threaded inserts are integrated to accommodate mounting brackets. Application-specific brackets for wall-, traverse- and stand mounting are optionally available. CAAD Simulation for EASE is available on request. 21 DLI-130 DAN TENDER SPECIFICATION ELECTRONICALLY STEERABLE, ACTIVE LINE SOURCE SYSTEM WITH DANTE INPUT Active line source system, which can be electronically controlled and monitored, with eight state-of-the-art CLASS D amplifiers and DSP technology specially developed for this field of application. The system is equipped with eight coated, 4 long excursion drivers. Use of neodymium chassis and an aluminium housing keeps the total weight of the unit, including electronics, down to just 9.4 kg. Ideally suited to the dynamic transmission of both speech and music, especially in acoustically challenging venues with lengthy reverberation times, or in demanding architectural settings. A perfect balance of amplifier-, loudspeaker- and DSP technology results in a max SPL of 124 db. The loudspeaker system has a wide frequency range of 60 Hz 17 khz. Its nominal horizontal dispersion angle is 110. The speaker s vertical beam width (which ranges from 0 to 90 ) and its vertical inclination angle (which ranges from -40 to +40 ) can both be adjusted in precise 0.1 increments, enabling extremely accurate orientation towards audience areas. For coverage of different audience levels, two separate beams can be generated that are independent of one another. Both beams include, among other things, separate high pass filtering. The acoustic centre of each beam can be moved along the full length of the line. An integrated algorithm effectively suppresses any unwanted side lobes in the beam s vertical dispersion range. The loudspeaker is also equipped with pilot tone monitoring for integration into an emergency evacuation system. Errors or malfunctions such as internal operating voltage errors, overheating, short circuits, missing pilot tone on both signal inputs (configurable), or network errors can all be monitored and displayed. (Each communication is acknowledged.) Notification and display of error messages is carried out via status messages in the control software. The loudspeaker additionally has a configurable Auto Power Save function as well as a tilt sensor and password protected access control. The control, programming and monitoring of all functions and parameters can be done in real time using a single piece of dedicated software. Beam dispersion, sound pressure levels and frequency response are all graphically displayed. The software also enables control of an extensive range of DSP functions for input and output processing that include routing, volume, delay, limiter/compressor, noise gate, signal generator (output only). The loudspeaker system offers an adjustable overall delay of up to 340 m (1000 ms). The speaker has a lightweight aluminium enclosure with rounded sides and a black or white powder-coated finish. Optionally available in all RAL Classic colours, or with photorealistic textural designs. To protect the loudspeaker chassis and electronics, the enclosure is fitted with a ball impact resistant, highly sound permeable front grille made from powder-coated steel, with damp- and dust repellent acoustic fleece behind. 12 M6 threaded inserts are integrated to accommodate mounting brackets. Application-specific brackets for wall-, traverse- and stand mounting are optionally available. CAAD Simulation for EASE is available on request.
